Chinese warplanes simulated attacking US carrier near Taiwan

Chinese military aircraft simulated missile attacks on a US aircraft carrier during an incursion into Taiwan’s air defence zone three days after Joe Biden’s inauguration, according to intelligence from the US and its allies. The People’s Liberation Army sent 11 aircraft into the south-western corner of Taiwan’s air defence zone on January 23, and 15 aircraft into the same area the next day, according to Taiwan’s defence ministry. People familiar with intelligence said the bombers and some of the fighter aircraft involved were conducting an exercise that used the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group. One person familiar with the incident said the Chinese aircraft remained more than 250 nautical miles from the US carrier and accompanying warships at all times. Pilots of H-6 bombers could be heard in cockpit conversations confirming orders for the simulated targeting and release of anti-ship missiles against the carrier, the people said. The revelations highlight that the intense military competition between the two superpowers around Taiwan and the South China Sea has not eased, posing a challenge to any attempts the Biden administration might make to improve US relations with Beijing. China’s development of missiles capable of targeting US ships and aircraft in the region has helped counter America’s military dominance in Asia and the western Pacific. Although Chinese experts have said that Beijing remains unwilling to risk open conflict with the US, the PLA’s new muscle is forcing the US to adjust its posture and strategy in Asia. US Indo-Pacific Command, which oversees military operations in Asia, said the USS Theodore Roosevelt strike group had closely monitored the Chinese manoeuvres which “at no time” posed a threat to the US ships. “However, the PLA activities highlighted here, are the latest in a string of aggressive and destabilising actions,” said Captain Mike Kafka, spokesperson for Indo-Pacific Command. “These actions reflect a continued PLA attempt to use its military as a tool to intimidate or coerce those operating in international waters and airspace, to include their neighbours and those with competing territorial claims.” The area where Taipei reported the incursions last weekend is located between Pratas, a Taiwan-held atoll in the northern part of the South China Sea, and Taiwan proper, where the Taiwan Strait meets the Bashi Channel, a main passageway between the western Pacific and the South China Sea. “The Su-30 [fighters] can carry Kh-31 anti-ship missiles, and the H-6 bombers and J-16 fighters can both carry YJ anti-ship missiles,” said Su Tzu-yun, an analyst at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, a think-tank backed by Taiwan’s defence ministry. “All three aircraft are clearly a display of threat against surface ships.” Recommended Taiwan US warns Beijing over incursion into Taiwanese air defence zone The US Indo-Pacific Command said on January 23 that the US carrier strike group had sailed into the South China Sea that day. According to ship-tracking data, it passed through the Bashi Channel. The Chinese aerial manoeuvres sparked a strong response from the new US administration, which warned Beijing to stop intimidating Taiwan. “We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic and economic pressure against Taiwan,” the US state department said, before adding that China should remember that Washington’s relationship with Taipei was “rock solid”. Mr Biden sent another message to China reaffirming the US commitment to help Japan defend the Senkaku Islands, which are administered by Tokyo but claimed by Beijing, which calls them the Diaoyu. China experts in Washington expect that Mr Biden will adopt a less chaotic approach than former president Donald Trump in setting policy. In an early sign that relations between Washington and Beijing would remain tense over Taiwan and a range of other issues, Antony Blinken, the new US secretary of state, this week said he agreed with the Trump administration, which had said the Chinese government’s repression of Uighur Muslims in detention camps in Xinjiang province was “genocide”. In his confirmation hearing last week, Mr Blinken said that while he disagreed with how Mr Trump had implemented his policies towards China, he was “right in taking a tougher approach”. According to an announcement by China’s Maritime Safety Administration, the PLA is conducting another exercise in the South China Sea, which is due to wrap up on Saturday. Taiwan’s defence ministry has reported larger than average Chinese air incursions into its air defence zone since that latest exercise started on Wednesday.

Chink troops know they'd get btfo'd the CCP doesnt tho lol
Do try tho

Probably the other way around, otherwise Xi would’ve made an actual go at Taiwan by now.

Meanwhile if you talk to random Chinese online they’ll rave about how Df-21/quantum radar/<insert wunderwaffe here> obsoletes the aircraft carrier while ignoring their country is trying to get its own carriers operational.

The US planes buzzing a CCP carrier in Taiwan-controlled waters is not the same as CCP planes buzzing a US carrier in Taiwan-controlled waters.

It's like the difference between shooting a home invader and a home invader shooting you.
Before entering the South China Sea the carrier group conducted a bilateral exercise with the Japanese Navy and then continued on to the South China Sea which they entered January 24 th, 2021. Quite a difference to what China is pulling off against Taian at the moment.
The Australians are also there, just sayin'.

the Americans weren't.
Did you even look at your photographs? No missiles. Not even the standard wingtip Sidewinders that are suitable only for self-defense in the modern air warfare environment, and even then that's brown pants territory.
Don’t bother. Armpit is le epic accelerationist.
Worse. An accelerationist leaf. Ain't his country he wants to see burning to the ground in the name of le superior future.

lol yea i'm sure when they posed for the picture they shined the nose of the jet too, not sure why you're stating the obvious. American propaganda being misleading? No way, the American Military would never hide the truth!

Implying there's no relation and that this has anything to do with accelerationism. It's called realpolitik, I don't larp like the US being the world police is a good thing for anybody. I'm not the one who wants Americans coming home dead in caskets, but your masochistic nature preludes you.

And someone has no fucking idea what carrier flight operations are like. Spoiler alert: those airplanes either flew missions after taking off or the USA put them all into post-flight maintenance and off the flight rosters just for a few fancy photos. Which is you know, kinda dumb if you plan on rattling the saber. Quality isn't good on some of the pics, but it looks like three separate planes plus the squadron leader, judging by the fancy insignia on the last. According to Wikipedia Theodore Roosevelt carries 90 aircraft total, including its helicopter complement. Now, as you may not be aware the USN is actually rather overstretched, so its going to have most likely just three fighter squadrons on rotation, plus a few planes in reserve total. Wow, its almost like having a tenth of your total striking power in the shops getting checked up by the ground crews for a photo op is a terrible.

Oh, and Teddy was the COVID ship that captain sent the e-mail up the chain about, so something tells me that ship and its crew aren't exactly operating anywhere near full efficiency and in fact are most likely currently on the Navy's shitlist because of him.

yea you're an aircraft expert and they totally weren't saber rattling sending air craft carriers to Taiwan again after China asked them specifically not too.
super fucking high IQ, it's only bad when china does it.

"Hey guys, don't sail warships in another country's waters even after they've invited you."

The sheer fucking gall of a man like you to think China has any authority, militarily, politically, legally, hell fucking internationally to dictate who Taiwan can have sail in its territorial waters. Now I understand you don't give a flying fuck about a nation's borders because we keep both your maritime and your land borders secure from anyone who wants to even think about setting a single hostile foot there, and we do it without charging you for the privilege, but they're a really big deal to people who actually have theirs under threat.

Good day, sir!

oh wow such privilege to have US ships off the shore nobody wants there protecting us from ???? I guess China has no borders either at all and the US has never invaded Chinese territory. The only one who acts like borders doesn't exist is you, the globalist. I actually believe in nation states and their own will to chose their destiny. You think the world should be some playground for America.
You're so fucking delusional I don't even know where to begin. Please seek help.

Biden just got his first shit test from the Chinese. This is like when you start dating a girl and she starts a fight about something dumb because she wants to see how you react. Let's see if Biden will be an alpha male chad boyfriend, or if he's gonna be the pussy ass cuck that the girlfriend cheats on and fucks over constantly cause she knows he's too much of a bitch to do otherwise.

Nice fabrication, nowhere does it claim that the Chinese were carrying missiles or likewise, the Americans weren't. When did I say anything increased? This is just regular US imperialism and you want to hide that fact.

"oh no china flew a heccing plane!"
Totally not hypocritical crying from the lyin' warmonger US press. Imagine defending journos and neocon rhetoric.
0.50 Yuan have been deposited into your account.

One of these nations is puttering through international waters, doing drill exercises with unarmed aircraft. The other nation launched 380 sorties against a nation they've threatened to conquer and who they've likened their independence as a declaration of war.

Basically the same thing if you're a fucking idiot, I guess.

>Didn't even build a shitty wooden mockup to practice on like the iranians at least did

2/10 would not start WWIII over tbh
