It doesn't matter. There were slaves in the bible and catholics enslaved people. Some people even believe that catholics enslaved others just because they weren't catholic, like many point to the mesoamerican population with the Spanish Empire.
For these people it doesn't matter that even if a pagan slave converted, it was still a slave like in the case of many mesoamericans. That most african tribes enslaved others and sold them to the Europeans. That Japan took part in the slave trade and was only banned because some japanese people might be sold as slaves while most slaves were chinese and koreans (fun fact: Europeans preferred asians over blacks as slaves because of their diligence and industriousness). And let's not go over the slavic serfs and the Irish.
It's just another excuse to fuel the hateboner people have for Catholicism.
