It wasn't so long ago that regular was $4 per gallon everywhere, hell I had to run 93 octane in my spergmobile (it was tuned right to the detonation limit) and I was paying $3 and some change for that just a few years ago. Europe saw $8-10 per gallon the last time shit got bad.

Electric car is gonna take forever and that's assuming we don't suffer complex systemic failures along the way, you'll be paying $100 to fill your midsize sedan's tank before electric becomes ubiquitous. Just wait until some kind of oil crisis AND runaway inflation happens at the same time.
