Wow, I hadn't heard of that. Seems like a performative exercise if the defendant is willing to plead.

There are trials possible for both main stages of a criminal case. A guilty plea still leaves the sentence to be determined. Sometimes a case will be bifurcated into separate trials on guilt and innocence and sentencing, usually for evidentiary reasons or other reasons of fairness.

Not to say I think this case will get that involved, but even Ralph just pleading guilty won't entitle him to kid glove treatment. But remember we didn't think it was likely he would be charged at all even though it was obvious from the beginning this was a revenge porn case.

We discussed this a few weeks ago IIRC. It looks like he would need a "third or subsequent conviction" for any of the Class 1 misdemeanors listed under § 9.1-902(A)(4)(1), which includes his charge for "unlawful dissemination." I could be wrong, but that's how it looks to me.

This seems to be right. I think. The full language is this:

1. § 18.2-63 unless registration is required pursuant to subdivision 1 of the definition of Tier III offense; former § 18.2-67.2:1; § 18.2-90 with the intent to commit rape; former § 18.1-88 with the intent to commit rape; any felony violation of § 18.2-346; any violation of subdivision (4) of § 18.2-355; any violation of subsection C of § 18.2-357.1; subsection B of § 18.2-374.1:1; former subsection D of § 18.2-374.1:1 as it was in effect from July 1, 1994, through June 30, 2007; former clause (iv) of subsection B of § 18.2-374.3 as it was in effect on June 30, 2007; subsection B of § 18.2-374.3; or a third or subsequent conviction of § 18.2-67.4, § 18.2-67.4:2, subsection C of § 18.2-67.5, § 18.2-386.1, or, if the offense was committed on or after July 1, 2020, § 18.2-386.2.

I'm including the whole thing for context. I think that's a good read, and the "third or subsequent" applies to everything in that final clause, even though arguably, it could just mean third or subsequent of the first listed statutes, but not the last, since it adds a different qualifier "on or after July 1, 2020." But I think it would have another semicolon and the restrictive language probably does apply to the last too.

Leaking a sextape while itself scummy is not the worst thing Ralph has done in the Faith saga. The fact that Vickers only went after him for that and not follow up with charges of grooming, isolating her from her family, drugging her and assaulting her like what R Kelly did to his victims is either a mistake on their part or they are being easy on Ralph.

I have a strong feeling he's going to try to make himself look younger to mitigate the visible age difference and end up looking ridiculous (e.g. badly dyed hair, shaved jowls, etc). On the flipside, Faith could dress to make herself look as young and innocent as possible.
