You just watched Pumping Iron, you got inspired, and you've started lifting weights. You're tired of being a DYEL-tier skinnyfat incel virgin, you want to use your abs as a xylophone.
Well then, all you need to do is BUY MY PROGRAM, EAT MY SUPPLEMENTS, AND INPUT MY PROMOCODE!!

Welcome, my fellow gymrats, to the wonderful world of online Bodybuilding and Fitness. Where fake-natty is the new natty, every food is killing your gainz, and everyone is stupid except for me.

We've got 14 year-olds blasting trenbolone:
The original video and channel has been deleted, after the kid received concerned backlash.

And much, much more.
In general, there's always a ton of people trying to sell you something with varying degrees of honesty. It's an odd subculture, there's a lot to explore, and USE PROMOCODE KIWI2020 FOR 10 PERCENT OFF ALL GYMSHARK APPAREL!!

The funniest part of this to me is the shit like Tren where these guys are horrifically fucking up their long-term health and psyche, often in irreversible ways, all so they can look like a grotesque action figure. It seems really cool until you realize it's literally all for attention and vanity. Famous bodybuilders like Frank Yang have publicly talked about how they started bodybuilding because their personality is so fucked up that they wanted to become super attractive to compensate. But then their self destructive all-consuming obsession with becoming Goku just makes it worse.

Don't get me wrong fitness is great and I go to the gym 3x/week but the lengths some people go in this shit is really insane.

To me it's the same degree of self-mutilation and narcissism (literally narcissism as in self-eroticism) seen in troons but in the other direction. Some of these motherfuckers post about how they've fucked up their cardiovascular system so bad with these drugs they're at risk of a heart attack every time they walk up a flight of stairs.

No normal person would find this attractive let alone permanently jeopardize their health just to make sure their upper body is shaped like a croissant.

Never underestimate fetishists.

Yep.
Then there’s the synthol freaks.

Synthol is basically an oil type deal that swells up the muscle, and can very easily lead to infection and other damage.

No mention of the og PISSLORD Jason Genova? Should probably add it to the op. Well at least a link to it. Also the navy seal copypasta irl JASON "NON NEGOTIABLE" BLAHA and a good introduction vid of that lunatic

It's indeed correct that the online fitness community/bodybuilding is filled with these slapfights and drama that would make even beauty parlour blush. But a lot of it is just passing ear to ear and not really documented. The closest one one be that Connor murphy guy who seem to have some sort of psychosis where he stopped taking roids and eating for god knows when and livestreamed his meltdown leading to people speculated he offed himself only to resurface as some weird online yoga guru type. TL:biggrin:R, dont do roids people.

Honestly there's so so much drama, I know quite a lot about it due to... PL reasons. And it's a massive trainwreck. /fit/ is probably the best case where you can see it all in action but its so disorganized.

Still /fit/ has golden moments like this on it:story:

Also don't forget people who will never admit to steroid use when it's obvious and that the true key is YOU JUST GOTTA BUY MY SUPPLEMENTS BRAH PROMO CODE IN THE DESCRIPTON

That's why I had a strangely hard time making the OP, so much of it is WOM, very old memes, and real deep hobby drama. Like, how would you explain Scooby1961 to an average person, you'd need to go back a while just to start.
Creatine? Tren? SARMs? GHRPs? Pre-workout compounds? BANG energy? Dextroamphetamine?
Just drink coffee bro

If it's good enough for Sergio Oliva, it's good enough for me.

EDIT:
lol, sum up /fit/ in one picture.

I feel like if any place on the internet would be up for reading really in-depth lore dumps on obscure freaks then it's Kiwi Farms. I sympathize with the difficulty in finding the information in the first place but I think it'd be really appreciated if you actually wrote something up on it - especially because this is a topic that is A. ripe for mockery and B. hasn't really been covered here yet. I would offer assistance but unfortunately I only have a surface-level knowledge.

You could just start with the already popularized/well-known shit and then move into Deeper Lore.

edit: to actually contribute to the thread I'll add a story that is entirely anecdotal and thus possibly not interesting but I feel like it embodies this entire subculture.

I used to work security with a guy who was like a 5"3 asian dude with glasses who used to be really fat and then started super-overcompensating by becoming a bodybuilder and taking roids. I was hanging out with him once and he said that he used to get roid rage so bad that when he'd call his friends and they would be busy/unable to hang out with him, or he'd fail on Tindr, he'd basically get so mad about what he interprited as social rejection that he'd start literally throwing shit across the room. The saddest/most tragic part is that his transformation really didn't even do that much for him. I was dating a girl briefly who had met him once or twice and I distinctly remember her telling me "yeah the first thing I noticed about him was his butter-face, the second thing I noticed was damn, he's jacked." Just think about that. Permenantly fucking up your hormones and obsessing over fitness and it's still the second thing people notice about you, it's still not enough to get over being Asian, short, or ugly facial features. So in that scenario how does someone like that react? If they're already that deep the answer is most likely gonna be "take more roids"

The reason I bring up this story at all is because I think this insecurity is the exact thing that initially motivates many of these bodybuilders to start in the first place. I don't want to write it off as "cant get pussy lmao" because it's obviously deeper than that but I do think it's rooted in social insecurity that could be easily addressed through healthier outlets. Just like troons. And then it just gets worse into this retarded downward spiral where they die at age 30 just for 5 sweet years of looking like a Super Mutant from Fallout.

I'll see what I can do. Let's start with my main nigga, Scooby1961.
1612304253411.png

This is Scooby Werkstatt. He is an old, old, old, Internet fitness guy. He was mainly all about at-home workouts, strict dietary discipline, and cardio. His motto is "fitness is free, don't buy anything." Overall, he was and still is very well loved in the community, because he's a massive goofball, very passionate, and only shills his completely free tools on his website, not any supplements or programs or whatever. He genuinely seems to want to help people in the hobby.
Around 2013, he got doxed, revealed to be gay, got harassed a bit at work and home, and left /fit/ after that. He vanished for a bit, but eventually came back and still posts videos, though mainly vlogs and life updates.
Now, here's where shit gets a bit more odd. Like I said, Scooby is a goofball. He makes fun of a lot of people in the fitness sphere, including Jeff Seid.
1612304747211.png
Jeff was basically a fitness model who was very full of himself. Scooby poked fun at him, mainly to show his (Scooby's) audience that you don't have to look like Jeff. There has been rumors that Jeff was involved in the doxing, but nothing has been definitively proven. Either way, Scooby has more or less stopped making fun of other people, Jeff has faded a bit from how popular he used to be to be replaced with the likes of David Laid and others from Gymshark.
That's just off the top of my head, though.

Some people would probably disagree with this but that's why I personally have always admired and seen powerlifters as way more impressive. Sure you're limiting your lifespan a bit and some are legit just an excuse to be fat but all these obsessives who just seem to be miserable and then end up on gear and often dont get much with it in the long run it's just sad. It's partly why the whole bodybuilding especially is literally beauty vloggers but the male version of it. Legit what's so hard about just working out because it feels good and not be obsessed about every single muscle? Legit people need to chill. Again I wont powerlevel more but since it's kinda needed here to understand my view. I'm a pretty big guy, powerlifter is probably a good description and I just workout because it feels good not to try and reach this impossible standard that online steroid guys make.

Maybe that’s why /fit/ is so gay, it’s basically just a male beauty pageant.
