And yet another bend: empathy.

Why do people assume empathy necessarily means feeling bad? Empathy means sharing the same joy with other people too!
Yeah, but assholes like Bob don’t understand that. They’re too full hate and spite.

He admitted it himself, “I spend much of my time not feeling good already.”

Bob’s too caught up in his own miserable life to feel anything for anyone else.

The best part is how Bob thinks his pathetic lifestyle is normal. Getting into fights with kids in High School over video games, thinking working at Blockbuster prepared him for a movie career, hiding out in the car to avoid his family, drinking while playing Mario alone at night, only moving out of his parents house when he was in his 30s, his grandmothers funeral. If that's the stuff he's comfortable leaving in, one only wonders what he left out.
He doesn't understand how normal people perceive things. It's why he acts the way he does. And ultimately why he is a cow. You see it in all aspects of his life and what he posts on social media. He really thinks he is impressing people with what he posts.

Gonna sperg on some literature here, but I think it's relevant, and on the off chance he should see it, it might just pop his brain like a zit. This is the world that Blob wants to live in.

Isaac Asimov, in writing his Robot series, basically snatched Blob's fantasy from him before he was even conceived. As you might expect, it is nothing that Blob would actually enjoy.

On this Earth, humanity lives within huge arcologies. Humans never see the light of the sun. There is no rural life; robots work the fields, all humans live within the Caves of Steel. And they all work, and every aspect of their lives is managed by the utility of their work. The first book's main character, a talented detective, doesn't rate high enough to earn the equivalent of a subway seat. The use communal shower baths a la Rome but with space age plumbing. They eat mostly algae substitutions, as real food is a rationed luxury that some may enjoy once a week while some will taste it on their birthday only. Only the useful can have children, and only as many as they rate. It all depends on how important you are to the health of your city section. You may ask, where is the future Blob thinks he's getting? It does exist, on other worlds that he would never be allowed to visit. He professes so much vileness and bigotry while having so little actual worth that the colonizations would have never brought him, and the utopian Spacer worlds that the colonized worlds became would have never tolerated his presence; the Aurorans would have detected his tendencies genetically and aborted him from his incubation tube if he were somehow born through their eugenic programs.

Blob must think he works for Asimov's vision if he has any clue who the man was. Izzy would probably want to strangle him within 30 seconds.

I can go on if anyone cares. But the point is, even the great granddaddy of his superior future would have him boiled for soap.
I kind of want to go back to the "Bob's unfit for his own superior future" bit for a second, since I've been playing something where converting yourself into a robot serves a minor plot point (Phantasy Star Online 2).

Androids and gynoids (called Casts) are present in the setting. They're all formerly humans that were too physically frail to handle the anime space bullshit that lets you fight monsters, so they were rebuilt as mostly-mechanical cyborgs. This seems wonderful at first glance: Casts don't really need to eat, can customize their bodies as they see fit, and even have enough organic bits that DNA can be extracted so they can sire children.

What they don't mention is that you lose all of your memories. If there's a mistake in the process, you may even lose your original personality, effectively killing "you" (this happened to the trainer for ranged classes). On top of that, only individuals with exceptionally high anime bullshit affinity even get considered, so that would most likely exclude Bob immediately. On the bright side, you do get to be effectively immortal, so you get to watch all your organic friends die of old age!

Come to think of it, I don't think that last part would bother him.

TL;DR: In a setting where people can voluntarily get turned into robots, only the truly useful will be considered for the role, and it comes with heavy downsides. I can hear him bitching the setting's "SCIENCE!" needs to improve if he lived there.

Why does it take him so many words to say fucking nothing? Why does he have to actually type, "So, um, you know, so yeah, that," like a dumb girl wrestling with her first period? Typing conversational crutches in tweets really gets the ladies slick down there, let me tell you.

Retarded opinions aside, I want to throttle that fat neck of his for these flagrant infractions against grammar and style.

Bob says, "Populism is cancer." while simping for AOC, a known populist. Then again, Bob was never known for consistency in anything. Also, western populism is probably going to be the political standard for the next few decades.
but then of course, it's likely Bob has an overly narrow view of the definition of Populism that he somehow acrobatically excuses AOC from being because reasons.

It's WhedonSpeak aka BuffySpeak. It's a plague upon modern cinema. Mr. Movie Tropes guy somehow doesn't realize that it is used intentionally to make the speaker sound dysfluent. Buffy the vampire slayer, patient zero of the Buffyspeak epidemic, was a bimbo (at least to start with) and talks like one. Bob is trying to be taken seriously as an intellectual while literally talking like a teenage bimbo, and he has been doing this for years. It's the mannerism equivalent of those nerds who will quote Monty Python sketches or some other nerd-favored entertainment constantly regardless of context; in other words, it's stunningly autistic.

It's clear Bob only likes AOC because she's hot in his mind, if she were a man he'd be making fun of her regularly for being a "Young Bernie" given how Bob hated Bernie and only supported him when it looked good to those he sucks up to.

Bob only cares about four things:

1. Being perceived as smart/enlightened by many people

2. Getting girls to slobber all over him

3. Waiting for the Dimensional Merge Superior Future to happen so he can leave his pathetic body.

4. Consume Product and Worship Corporations

Edit: Forgot to add a fourth one

Thank you, sir. This Whedon will be getting an angry letter about this.

When I think of empathy, I'm reminded from something I think was in Band of Brothers. I think Shifty Powers said about the rank and file German soldiers (people he spent several years in firefights with) something like "We might have been friends if we hadn't been born on the wrong side." Empathy is simply defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. It's a basic component of humanity. Lack of empathy for others is a sign of psychopathy.

I despise Bob. I dislike Bob. But on a human level he's a very tragic figure and in spite of having the good fortune to get in on the YouTube critic thing during its peak but he squanders his successes because he's unable to control his rage at people that allegedly wronged him 30 years ago (and the people he projects them onto) or his desire to fit in with the cool kids. It's a road any of us nerds could have potentially gone down- letting the dumb shit in your life consume you.

People like Bob tend to conflate being able to empathize with specific characteristics of someone or a group of people as condoning all of their views and actions, despite empathy having nothing to do with that. You can empathize with the guy who acts like a complete shithead because his father also beat him as a child, but not condone him being a shithead it isn't that complicated.
At the end of the day though, Bob and his ilk don't like empathy because it forces them to humanize and identify with the other side, which makes it harder to maintain their 'Us vs Them' narrative, and heaven knows we can't have that. I personally don't see Bob as tragic because he's brought most if not all of his own problems on himself, not to mention the stunning lack of care and tact he shows other people on a daily basis.

It's funny how Moviebob views Lindsay as a potential partner- in 2012 when the Ender's Game movie was new and there was a controversy about its original book writer, she actually made a TGWTG video as the Chick and devoted a large part of it to how ridiculous Godwin's Law was. I wonder how familiar with her work Bob actually is- he seems to be fond of something society at large has rightly recognized as a weak, easily dismissed argument.

He has a tendency to miss the point of anything he consumes and projects himself onto the product.
He does that with politicians too, to the point where he implied AOC was a centrist neolib.
New account. Bunch of asshurt. Triple posting. This is a troll account.
Why do I have a feeling Ashley Jankowski is at it again?
Is that you, Bob? Or is it Chris?

Pauvre Pierrot

And thereby hangs a tale.

Commedia dell'arte is hardly obscure. I think everyone would recognize Pierrot, Harlequin, and maybe Columbine if they saw them (except probably not Columbine because she was "the girl" and didn't really have a recognizable costume). Yet you go looking for a performance on YouTube, or the Internet Archive, or DVDs on Amazon. Fucking nowhere to be found. If anyone has pointed a camera at a performance and stuck it on the Interwebs, I have yet to see it.

Except this, a full color cartoon made in the late 19th Century.

Apologies for being so off topic, but this shit fascinates me. Think of all the films they made, and it's like nobody, anywhere, used the mimed performances of commedia dell'arte as a blueprint for their SILENT COMEDY SHORTS. Bizarre.
Aren't there some performances in Venice or something?
Never let it be forgotten that Bob WANTED the moviescape choked to death by geek culture.
Let's admit that that's because he thinks geek culture being acceptable will get him laid.
We should not appeal to normal people, because normal people don't even exist! Even if they exist, they are BAD GUYS!!

Bobby loathes bottom-up activism; he wants Superior Future Elites to quench the dirty mayo ghouls.
I'm not sure what he means by "same place".

Bobby steps down from his sociopathic soapbox the moment the word "marginalized" is uttered.

That's why privileged, cloistered assholes like Bobby and his troon Angels do not inspire empathy.

Hardworking, employed, even rich ghouls have nothing to teach Bobby:

I dunno, a farmer's market vendor can definitely teach Bobby about eating healthy, and while Bobby cannot hope to learn Yoga, he could at least learn breathing techniques to quench his anger.

1) my test for politicians is simple. If I can't imagine myself having a beer with that person, I won't vote for him. I want to know that a politician doesn't sneer at normal people before I even think about supporting him.
2) yay, more elitism! It's not like being an elitist is why Breadtube hates you or anything.
3) anti-Semitism? If you're talking about Soros, it isn't anti-Semitic to call Jews out for doing shitty stuff.
4) I guess the way he talks about his enemies makes it clear that he's very much a lapsed Catholic. Jesus Christ said to love your enemies, but Moviebob wants to murder his.
5) repeat after me, Moviebob.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a politician. It is alright for other people to criticise her, and me white-knighting her obsessively does not mean that she'll fuck me.
6) Greta Thunberg did not invent the phrase ”how dare you”.
7) ”populism is cancer” - Moviebob.
”A list of populists includes... Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez” - Wikipedia
”criticising AOC is terrorism” - also Moviebob
Guess Moviebob's a terrorist then.
8} I love how Blob filters Peter Coffin's name out because he's scared to talk about him.
Also, western populism is probably going to be the political standard for the next few decades.
Hopefully. Trump and Brexit are both proof that the people can always defeat an elite and a people with that knowledge aren't just going to forget it.
It's clear Bob only likes AOC because she's hot in his mind,
Yeah. This can be seen by the fact that he also supports Hillary, despite the two agreeing on practically fuck all.

I'm wondering what it would take for Bob to truly hit rock bottom.

I mean, he is pretty damn close to it, but I think he hasn't fully hit rock bottom until the cancel culture crowd fully focuses their attention to him and he either gets his Twitter nuked or ends up going dark like Dobson did.

Guessing either of the two will happen this year.
