Unpopular Opinions about TV

Everyone in the Battlestar Galactica Remake is a jerk. That's not to say they don't have moments of heroism, but it's the show that made darkly-lit, desaturated, brooding sci-fi the trend for the past fifteen years. Even then, it was only good for two seasons. By the time they settle on New Caprica and the show turns into X-Com 2, it's clear the budget fell through and they had to come up with a plausible way to have combat without Vipers. Except the contradiction of having human secret police is silly when the Cylons have practically unlimited Centurions that can only be killed by heavy ordinance. And Cylons talking about God is some real proto-Fedora tipper dialogue especially when you consider the people of the 12 Colonies is an obvious allegory to the tribes of Israel as they wander the desert of stars. The Old Testament basis does not mesh well with the Cylons constantly talking about religion.

I actually prefer OG Macross to the BGS Remake and probably the original if I get around to watching it. Macross actually makes an affirmative reason for why preserving human culture is important with (annoying IMO) music and it's that human desire for art that lets humanity survive the war. The reason to root for the humans in BGS remake is that they have permadeath while Cylons can respawn. It's not because human culture or spirit has intrinsic value in the BGS remake.

Big Mouth is also a terrible show, I can't believe that filth isn't booted off of Netflix

It's beyond disgusting and only allowed because of it's ugly art style. Reddit banned me when I pointed out that the show would be considered child porn and universally condemned if it was the exact same show but the characters were drawn in anime style.

I hate Breaking Bad and everyone likes to talk about that show...
It's so violent and depressing...

Walter White isn't cool or badass. He's a dysfunctional, bipolar trainwreck of a human being who continually digs himself into holes and drags all of his loved ones into them. His "I am the one who knocks" and "say my name" speeches are just copes of a dying guy having manic episodes.

He's also a literal cuck.
...These are both accurate descriptions about Breaking Bad though

Been watching The Office for the first time. Near the end of s5.

So, when does it get good?
IMO, Season 2-3 are the show's peak, 1 is ok, 4 starts getting bad when you see when the 07-08 Writer's Guild strike kick in, and then 5 and onward is bad.

The show goes from mostly realistic sitcom to live action cartoon VERY quickly.

I remember it being one of the first series to have that dark dramatic shakycam that's supposed to make you feel like you're in the room observing the action but instead makes you feel like you have seasickness on a rickety elevator. It also did that thing where everyone keeps having Progressive values and democracy and letting women have abortions and go into combat, despite the fact that an environment where humanity's existence hangs on a thread would probably result in society becoming much more restrictive and conservative. (TLOU2 did this kind of crap as well.)

It was never that funny in the first place.

2 is the peak however. 1 and 3 suck too. 2 actually had some pretty good eps in there like Drug Testing, Take Your Daughter To Work Day, The Injury, Valentine's Day, and my personal favorite of the season Boys and Girls. 3 was just boring until the final few eps which were pretty good.

I'm not actually sure how "unpopular" this is, but I very rarely see people rave about Boardwalk Empire's finale. I thought it was basically perfect and one of the best episodes of the show.
Boardwalk Empire is a nearly perfect show, period. Even the truncated final season is great. My only complaint is Arnold Rothstein dying off screen.

Here's an unpopular opinion: Boardwalk Empire is a better crafted show than Mad Men, and it got the better half of the Sopranos writing staff. (Both shows are great, mind you.)

The outright abortion subplot really pissed me off. Early on, Roslin convinced Adama that humanity "needed to start having babies," which he reminds her of in that episode. Then she goes on about how she was pro-choice and thought that she was smart to write an executive order prohibiting abortion after it took place. When the real Solomon choice would have been to put the baby up for forced adoption. It's not like the mother wanted her child.

I give a pass towards women in combat, as Kurdish women proved. They only had about 45,000 people left, so finding qualified people in general is pretty tough. In general though, they should have more a Gears of War society where noncombatant women HAVE to give birth ASAP. I don't mean Cylon half-breeds either like the show stresses. Giving Cylons motivation for doing things is what makes the show not make sense, especially when they're on the planet. It doesn't cost Cylons that much to have a base star or a droid control ship in orbit, but they have to be unprepared so that the plot of that season can happen. It also doesn't help that by season 3, characters in the show can tell the difference between human and infiltrators on sight, which negates the point of having infiltrators.

Actually there's a whole episode about abortion which ends with them making it illegal. Also, after the occupation and the coup they pretty much abandon democracy as well, appointing Roslin and then Lee as president without a vote and going to a council of ships captains instead of elected representatives. They all talked a good game, but when it came down to it they abandoned pretty much every aspect of civilization in order to survive.

Of all the problems BSG had, wokeism wasn't one of them.

But Roslin still let that woman have the abortion via legal trickery since her executive order was made after it happened. That's why the black lady from the Quorom was pissed. TBF, Democracy itself lost legitimacy since it directly led to the Cylon occupation. Whether regular people believed Baltar was working with the Cylons before setting down, he certainly colluded with them afterwards.

-I much prefer a rerun than to go online and pay to watch new shows. Like, how greedy and stupid is that?
-Law & Order: SVU has been shit since Stabler left and should have been canceled by now. The fact that it outlasted the superior Mothership sickens me.
-I like the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 2015 Alvin and the Chipmunk cartoons as much as their 80s versions.

I refuse to watch anything post-Stabler unless it's an extremely compelling episode that's directly based on something I'm interested in.
Or if Snoop Dogg's in it.

The last time I tried watching a post-Stabler episode I didn't even recognize it as a Law & Order spinoff anymore. It's just a super generic women's crime drama (heavy emphasis on the drama) with a few remaining familiar faces and names. Like, the crime aspect was barely even there, mostly it was in the precinct and about that blonde woman's personal life.
