theHunter: Call of the Wild is a PC and console game made by Expansive Worlds (EW for short) that lets you experience the buggy as hell realistic thrill of hunting in real life (such as the importance of wind direction and noise). It features many different maps ranging from the Pacific Northwest to Russia. With over 50 different species of animals spread across 8 different maps, you've got a lot to see and do. Now, I don't think there is a thread for this game yet, as I checked, but if I somehow missed it -- I am very retarded, sorry. I thoroughly enjoy this game since new updates are coming out consistently, but, constantly pumping out DLCs can also get annoying. I do think most of the DLCs are worth the purchases, though, as the newer animals and maps get better graphically each time. It's certainly not a perfect game and can be super fucking buggy, but it's part of the charm. I can't tell you how many times I've been ragdolled across the entire map by a charging buffalo. But I still love it. Here are a few screenshots (not mine) from the game that I think show off just how pretty it can be.

I could sperg about this game for ages, but I don't wanna have an obnoxiously long OP for a hunting simulator game. However, if I find fellow theHunter autists then that might change.

I played it a lot a year or two ago. Now it serves as my relaxing, time killing game.

I just wish they'd fix the bugs before adding more DLC.

I used to play that way back when, like ten years ago. I don't know if it still is but it used to run on Avalanche's Just Cause engine, to some degree, which is funny for such a somber and slow game. That's also why a no-name hunting game always looked so good and have improved the graphics so much over the years. Expansive Worlds is some kind of spin-off from Avalanche.

theHunter might be the dad:est game around, the exciting moments that bring you joy are things that wouldn't even register in other games. Walk around in silence for 30 minutes, then hear the faint rustling of leaves somewhere behind you. Can it be!? Slowly walk over there and... yes, there is fresh deer shit in the bushes, what a wonderful day this is!
Other memories to cherish is seeing a deer no more than 30 yards away from you. It was half a mile away by the time you had the rifle ready, but still, good times.

Hunter 'tism squad represent. A friend gave me that game as a joke on a Steam sale and it sat on my library unplayed for like a year before I gave it a try. I was hooked on my first clean kill on a buck. I don't know how they do it, since it's a completely different experience from actually hunting, but man that's a satisfying game.

One of our groups back up games. We tend to play whatever the new map is and just chase after animals shooting them. I have the elephant rifle and it just murders any animal in one hit. So fun blasting anything from Turkeys to Bison with it.

The one gun that completely took me by surprise was the Drilling. I did not expect that thing to be nearly as fun as it is. It's just a goddamn break-open shotgun with an afterthought rifle barrel under it, but it just works for me somehow.

I will have to pick that one up. I am kind of stuck in my ways since we dont really play this game the way it is intended. I just use the Elephant rifle and the Stradivarius. I have been using the Garand as well and its been pretty fun.

The crossbow is a good way to spook your friends. It has a really satisfying thump noise as it hits the ground or a tree so you can hang back behind people and shoot near them to make them look around.

The pistols can be kind of fun but I rarely use them myself. My friend swears by his revolver but the only time I ever had fun with them was a all pistol bison hunt.

The game is listed at 300 hours to fully complete the base game and the DLC.

That's quite involved, even more so than games like Monster hunter.

Thats probably for the "story" which just involves you visiting locations. I would not buy the game for that part, its very bare bones and tedious.

I'm glad we have more hunter autists among us, it's nice. With that said, have any of you had a hard time finding whitetail lately? Obviously, need zones change, but I'm not even finding their need zones anymore. I have pretty much all of Layton discovered so it's not really a matter of them being in areas I haven't been to yet. Just rather odd.

How many types of animals can you kill in this game?

I've yet to find a fishing game that has the diversity like Sega Marine Fishing, but hunting usually had the market cornered by cabella up until last generation.

There are roughly 56 types of animals you can hunt, but that's counting some animals that are almost identical to each other like Europan bison/plains bison. There's a lot of stuff to choose from to be honest and they're all spread out across a bunch of different maps. I will say, however, that the base game only comes with the first two maps, everything else is behind DLCs. None of the map or other DLCs are terribly expensive (don't exceed $7.99) but it adds up over time. So I usually recommend getting the game on sale (it goes on sale a lot) and purchasing a couple of DLCs with it for what would've been the original price.

Oh there's no definitive edition with everything included yet?

Oh, there is! There are a few editions depending on what exactly kind of DLCs you want (maps, weapons, etc.). There is one with every single DLC, but it is like $95. If money isn't an issue then I'd say go for it, but I usually recommend only getting a couple of things at a time just in case you end up not liking the game.

Is it multi-player? Can I injure other players? Can you track other humans? If I'm playing a hunting game I want the most dangerous game to be on the table.

Is there a mod that adds all-seeing, all-knowing Somalis in compact cars that chase me all around the map while I desperately try to find more malaria medication?

Because that is all this series is missing.
