theHunter: Call of the Wild - Shooting Helpless Animals Simulator

Is it multi-player? Can I injure other players? Can you track other humans? If I'm playing a hunting game I want the most dangerous game to be on the table.
Is there a mod that adds all-seeing, all-knowing Somalis in compact cars that chase me all around the map while I desperately try to find more malaria medication?

Because that is all this series is missing.
The Far Cry thread is right this way.

There is MP, and only 1 person needs to own the map for you to join and play. No killing other people sadly.

Nah this is a better thread to discuss Far Cry. Because if Far Cry was being designed by more competent developers these hunting games wouldn't even exist.

The general gameplay and concepts of these hunting games and especially Call of the Wild are the type of fully fleshed out mechanic that most other open world games should incorporate. You could greatly enhance the overall immersion of many of these games by including these concepts and the interface between other systems within the game would lead to better gameplay outcomes.

This always struck me (more so now since our tech is so good) as a strange genre that had a low ceiling of potential. It really feels like it should be a sub component of a larger experience.

After a MASSIVE request for hunting dogs by the player base, we are finally getting them.

The models and perk systems for the bloodhound look nice, but I feel this DLC is better geared towards the players that like playing hardcore mode (turning off tracks, spotting, etc.). It'll only be $3.99 when it comes out so I will probably buy it, but I'm still not sure on the viability of using them for the average player. I can definitely see them being useful in the situation where you shot an animal in a large group because successfully following the wounded animal's tracks can be a pain when there are like thirty other tracks around it.

If theres one thing about this games DLC practices to praise, its the pricing. Nothing is above 10 bucks and making the dogs 3.99 means they are an instant buy for me.

My friends and I take turns buying the maps and we generally get out moneys worth each time. The only map we really haven't liked is the snow one.

Yeah, as buggy the game can get at times, I have always appreciated the pricing on all their DLCs and how often they put things on sale.

And Medved is a map that only true masochists enjoy. Objectively the worst map. It is either absolute nothingness or it is so heavy with brush that you don't see the animals until they're already running away from you. The ONLY reason I have been grinding on that map is because I have a diamond-potential melanistic brown bear on my solo map and I want to be able to gloat if I finally get it. You would think a super dark bear on an all-snow map would be easy to find again but that map is just so cursed I'm lucky to see a single animal in an hour of walking around.

You know, for a second there, I thought the developers updated to hunt dogs.

I was like "thats one way to get your game noticed, I guess."

can you pet the dog

There will be a fucking riot if they don't implement that function.

Good news! You can pet, play with, and praise the dogs!

The video is timestamped to where you can see some of the things you can do with them.

EDIT: Definitely going to get the full black and tan dog, it looks the best to me.

I'm a few days late on posting this, but that's OK. The new map has been announced, and aside from it being nice to finally have another whitetail map, I can't say I'm too excited about this one. The map itself looks very pretty but the majority of the animals are just stuff we already have or are just reskins.

Yeah, that's kind of what you sign up for in this game. Still, I might get it. I like that environment. Been playing the snowy maps too much lately, could do with a new arid place.

I have been absolutely horrible at updating this thread, but COTW has had a couple of big things come out recently. We have a new Great One, which is, unsurprisingly, a red deer.

I actually kinda like the design (especially the spotted variation of it.) even if the actual rack size isn't much different than diamonds. Whitetail GO's just have too much variation to where they can look like absolute dogshit. So I like this new approach with the red deer GO.

And in other news......WE'RE GETTING GATOR HUNTING LETS FUCKING GO
