Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

Yeah I've just discovered ThisIsMonsters and I'm impressed. I had been avoiding the ones about kids, cause that stuff just breaks me.

Sorry if late, but has anyone recommended StrangeLand?


I also like Caitlin Doughty - Ask a mortician. Her presentation style might not be to everyone's taste, but she puts a lot of work into some interesting and informative videos.


For horror film review channels, I'm glad to see Horror Reviews back. YouTube yeeted his whole channel for a while. Fucken YouTube.

I'd also recommend:

Spookyastronauts. She does a mix of reviews, deep dives and lists and so. Obviously a big horror fan, and she's really likeable imo.


Ryan Hollinger, an oirish guy who does analysis and commentary


And I don't know if he'll be to anyone else's taste, but I find The Newbee pretty funny.

Lazy is thankfully trying to step up his game. His "Region Locked" Case video was actually pretty unique and good in scope, especially involving a Pop Star turned Witchcraft Murderer and Family Ritual Gone Wrong Gone Suicidal. Hopefully other Horror Youtubers won't try and copy that unless they have access to those who can speak other languages.

Yeah, I really can't get into them because of the videos I've seen it's mostly just retelling the same 20 stories that are already shared in screencap threads.

I love Lazy's work. He really is one of the few Youtubers from that that I still watch and come back to to this day. I still visit Mr. Nightmare as well. Lazy having a pleasant voice to listen to really helps though.

One of my favorites has always been Horror Stories. All he does is summarize tragic/scary events in videos that are usually under five minutes. Though he doesn't upload too often and a lot of his videos have been removed because he usually includes footage or photos of whatever he's talking about.

Here's his channel if anyone's interested. I think he's pretty underrated

My problem with a lot of "horror" channels recently is they have gone from posting genuine interesting content (both real stories and looking at popular fiction stories) to posting low resolution 30sec videos they found randomly on a video site, stretching it into a 10 minute video and desperately trying to convince the audience there is some scary spooky shit happening there. Its all so tiresome.

I've been so out of the loop that I haven't noticed that. My problem sometimes is my belief in the stories. Sometimes I wonder if they're made up, because if they're getting them from Reddit, they could be made up to get interest. Speaking of Reddit, lol, remember when people on Reddit got angry when their stories were featured in videos and put out copyright strikes to shut them down? LOL- I remember thinking- if you're going to put out your maybe made-up story online for everyone to read, you should probably expect it to get used.

they're all fake. if they were real, they would be less interesting, because reality doesn't really make good TV (like how reality shows script segments)
 
After basically binging them, I have to highly recommend this is MONSTERS. They cover stuff I might've heard of lightly touched on other channels before and even stuff I've never heard of, and go into a depth even on the old stuff. They're a super engaging listen despite being new. If you can't stand stuff with children, skip the first season. But their other stuff is very good.

The issue is that virus' videos can only take you so far, after the early to mid 00s viruses became more "hidden", only running in the background.
Sure you have ransomware but even then its "oh look these files have a different extension and a ransom note" vs the virus of the 80s and 90s and to some extent the 00s where viruses could do crazy things that were interesting from an end user level.
