I slightly disagree, slurs and swears aren't inheritly funny and most of it is contextual? Like in the slug joke I think I would think it was amusing because there cussing out a insect like they beated up their mama and own them money. It's more the absurdity I guess?

Hazbin and HB have potty mouths and I don't think there all that funny if at all, and you don't need a lot of swearing to be funny either lol
It's more about timing that it is the actual word IMO. Swearing isn't inherently funny, but if a mild mannered character stubs their toe and screams FUCK when you're not expecting it? That's a killer right there.

Oh yeah absurdity, timing and context is kinda what sells a joke to me so there's that.
Also genuinely making fun of characters or genuinely well thought roasts
My poor gut-

Also weird hang up, I feel Hazbin and even HB aren't nearly half as absurd or wacky/ goofy as they could be?
Is it the adult animation thing? Not against jokes about sex and drugs and " offensive edgy " humor but I do notice with HB that the type of jokes they do tend to get kind of repetitive although I appreciate some of the ass whopping / attempts at cartoony (?) Violence and I'm not expecting Hazbin to be better given that Angel dust the resident sexpot is still a lead.

I'm expecting Hazbin to be a mixed back- I probably won't hate it but might not love it?

I got all of my Vivienne salt a few pages ago so lol

I feel like HH/HB doesn't know how to swear for effect, rather than just swearing because they can. It's not the volume, it's the placement. That said, I do think they're getting slowly better at it compared to the pilots.
I think that's why none of their swearing really landed and why I couldn't shake off the juvenile vibe ( lot's middle schoolers are known to be potty mouths the second they feel there allowed to swear until there brains grow up and find the intricacies of well, swearing and the context where it's allowed / correct land what not -)

Well HB definely had a pick up on that front on episode 2 who was almost my fav of the bunch ( I kinda hate how rushed the fizzaroli part was because he's the most memorable part of that episode and I didn't care too much about Stolas cheater pity party) and it sorta felt like it was back at stake zero by summer broken ( and man that episode was not all that memorable to me- I do like some stuff but the plot just felt like it was the weakest of the bunch set up wise even if I liked some of the sex demons designs and the humans proved to me once more then the background characters are always better / more variably designed then the mains lolol )

HH hasn't busted out nothing since the pilot, a comic and a MV, so the swearing/ comedy bit remains to be unseen as of now, but since its going to actually be picked up by a network, even if a lax one I think, it's still a network meaning the degeneracy will have to be censored up to an extent vs HB that's on YT and is mostly independent and can be as indecent or boring as it likes.

Though if Hazbin turns out to be superior because of those restrictions I will laugh lolol.

Funny, I thought the best part of that was Blitzie swearing and verbally abusing his ex and her handing him his ass. And the second best was the completely pointless giant monster at the end. I liked how it looked even though it was completely ridiculous and made no sense. It wasn't a very coherent episode in general though.

Really? My mind kinda just registered the bickering and moved on- I guess because I wasn't attached to neither Verosika nor Blitzø all that much so it all kinda came off as sorta white noise to me ( Moxxie and Millie as well as Octavia and fizzaroli are the only characters I kinda like- don't care too much about Loona nor Blitz and im sorta confused about Stolas woobification and for once would not mind an actual one dimensional sex fiend, but imo i think there going on the arranged marriage angle for him and his wife but that might be because there royalty and could have contributed to Stolas general misery with his wife but ye)

Though the monster did come out of nowhere but honestly,, I just stopped questioning at this point and I'm treating this shows like Yandere sim in the sense that while the creator might want to try to create something " serious and adult " it's so ridiculous in a way that I just shrug along and try to no longer question it too deeply. I might ironically end up liking both shows that way much better and my low expectations means that I like the parts competently made way better lol

don't care too much about Loona
My main gripe with Loona is just having a character who is generic furry bait and doesn't look like the rest of the characters. While a majority of the other characters are at least furry-adjacent they don't look like a stock commission from FA. Give her an actual character arc and I'll get over it.

The only one that she has right or is likely being set up now seems to be one with Vortex ( who has a remarkably sexy voice, there I said it!) And it seems not all that interesting really :P.

I think so far my favorite running gag is Blitzo having a personal history with almost every antagonist of the episode, no matter how absurd or improbable.

Thats the one that has the most potential so far.
I did not register that as a running gag at all and my brain is usually better at picking up those then usual :0.
Man HB must be slowing my brain, tf

It goes to show they never grew past a easily amused 14 year old in terms of comedy. It's not a dish to her, just how it feels ( humor is subjective after all and if it makes her laugh * shrugs *)
It kind of sounds like a dish at her when phrased that even though I agree with the overall statement.

It’s kind of weird that people often compare Vivzie to YanDev when one has a tangible product out right now.
As for serious and adult, that doesn’t really fit HB completely since it was always advertised as the wackier comedic counterpart to HH.

The third episode seems to be hinting at something deeper if the focus on Blitzo and Loona’s relationship is of any indication.

I can appreciate that Vortex doesn't specifically hold any kind of animosity toward IMP. He's just there to do his job and he does it well. Even in Hell, Professionalism is still regarded as a good thing. And if Blitzo's 50% off poster was any indication, IMP at least has enough of a goodwill reputation with their customers to warrant a massacre on the surface. It's the little details that make it go a long way.

I liked that they actually noted that it's actually pretty weird that IMP just goes around undisguised committing murders constantly. They don't have some Shield of Boringness that somehow makes this okay, and even Loona is somewhat aghast they don't have disguises.

Every episode so far seems to throw a curveball when it comes to its lore. Episode 2 gave us the tidbit that only hellborn can travel between the rings, and episode 3 gave us the whole disguises bit. It keeps it fresh. It's like subverting expectations, but not shittily executed. It's not a perfect show by any means, but it's miles above other attempts in the industry simply because it tries.

One thing I didn't get about this episode was that Verosika was in rehab. Like I thought the whole point of the Hazbin Hotel WAS to be rehab.

Even still what's the point of having a alcohol rehab in hell? I get that the hell setting isn't trying to make a moral argument as much as its like "we're sinners and we're proud xd" but there should be plenty of alcoholics and drunk-drivers in hell.

Loved the new episode otherwise. Though this one really showed that she's a furry artist. You can tell that she's in her element d4awing something non-human.

Was kinda bummed the latest episode put the kibosh on the possibility of blitzo having raised loona as his own from since she was a pup. There was some legit funny or even touching fanart of him being a single father. But it's viv's show she can do what she wants to it I'm not gonna sperg about not having it do what I want like I have any say in what they do with it.

I'm still standing on the " I probably shouldn't be taking this all too seriously " side of things but if HH is meant to be HB on Crack then it might be good on the ridiculous factor

Though I kinda wonder about the rehab / redemption aspect thing
Best case scenario it's handled decently enough where you can tell the character growth is natural
worse case scenario it's Steven universe In brightly colored hell. Though it would depend on season size and pacing as well as execution so it remains to be seen

To be fair, I do think Him taking on a parental role even if she's older is still sweet in a odd way- it's likely Loona's parents sucked and Blitzo just replaced her parental figures in a way

I kinda took that joke with a grain of salt considering it‘s said the midst of Blitzo and VeroSika flyting each other, since if all those insults were meant to be taken as 100% literal, then it would also mean Blizto is either a baby snatcher or a pedophile given the dig about him always setting off amber alerts.

Besides, she also follows up the rehab comment with "I’m not in it because rehab’s for nobody losers like your sister" so even if rehab’s a thing in hell it’s probably not there to actually rehabilitate addicts. I’d guess if it‘s actually a thing it’d be more for entertainer demons who were too strung out to even perform properly rather than Hell actually being concerned about drunk drivers or alcoholics.

I do wonder if we would see Blitzø's sister in The hotel.

It could set up for a crossover winch I see as unavoidable at this point
