In social work circles, it is well known child abuse can carry across generations, trying to break that cycle constitute the majority of their work.

I have a more practical answer to your (excellent) post: never underestimate a liberal person's pathological need for validation and attention, which in our current times is easily given away by social media. The entire western world is hellbent on doing everything it can to look progressive and tolerant; asking unpleasant questions is for white supremacists, aka anyone daring to ask questions that may lead to unpleasant answers. Answers that may hurt feelings are literally like reopening Auschwitz.

Future historians will have a field day about these strange days.

A couple of weeks ago, Abigail Shrier's book, Irreversible Damage was positively reviewed. The by now customary harassment campaign of the author of the review followed on Twitter. Not to be outdone, Irish TERFs sent letters in support of the author.

first off, that’s not chemical castration. We have chemical castration and honestly, it more closely resembles what trans folks willingly put themselves through with puberty blockers and hormones than this. I also doubt something like this will ever be in pill form. We can’t fix anorexia like that, or any other addiction really. I don’t think they can walk around with it. I think this is three hours a day where you’re on your back holding it in with your hand. Its mentioned in that schedule to keep your hand steady. It’s not like it’s completely insertable either. If you do need time off to do this, how do you work? Do you go home every lunch to dilate? That must be extremely difficult.

I imagine the situation went something like this: Someone who underwent the surgery had hair in there, and went to the electrolysis place to get it removed. The staff were probably confused as hell, the trans person probably had a tantrum and demanded electrolysis, so the staff kluged up some way to actually get the hair out.

A lot of beauty clinics are staffed by ladies from southeast Asia with an okay command of English, and they may not have known how to get or use a speculum. No matter where the staff was from, I don't imagine they were trained to remove hair from a weird, surgically-created hole.

I bet the whole situation was awkward and horrifying as hell for the staff.

I'd bet a speculum wouldn't work because it would cover the sides where the hair was.

They're used to access the cervix, at the very end of the vagina, not to really expose the vaginal walls. So with stinkditches, you'd only get the hairs at the very end of the flesh tube.

Of course this also assumes that said stinkditch has been dialated so that a speculum can even fit. If you haven't had sex/been penetrated before, just getting a pap smear is pretty uncomfortable. If you have a rigid tube of scarring I doubt you'd even be able to open it if you could get it in in the first place.

This all makes sense and I concur. Also, hair in the vagina sounds painful.

This is actually pretty sad. I don’t really buy the concept of “emotional labor” (it seems to boil down to not being an asshole) but whenever I see people complaining about it they are usually talking about people from an outside group. Like a black person might not want to discuss the history of racism in their field with a Rando white co-worked but might be more comfortable discussing it with another black co-worker.

What I’ve never seen is someone refusing to mentor people who are going through the same thing they are going through. People just do this naturally. Mothers don’t charge each other for advice, and young people entering a field can usually find someone with the time to mentor them. That this person is charging for this is kinda sick.

If kids cannot have alcohol until they're 18 (or 21 in the US), why should they be allowed to make drastically and potentially harmful choices to their own bodies? If a human brain doesn't fully develop until the age of 25, why don't they make it that the minimum age for people to transition?
