I think part of it might be woke, well meaning teachers, librarians or book store owners if all those pre-Covid world tours were anything to go by.I can’t figure out who the audience of Assigned Male is meant to be. It’s way too preachy to work with the SJWs. It wouldn’t convince anyone to be friendlier or whatever to trans people so it wouldn’t work if the audience is intended to be transphobes. It’s got too big concepts to work as a kid’s book despite the “cutesy” art style, how the hell are kids going to know what “cissexism” or “heteronormativity” are? This has no clear demographic.
Before the global pandemic Labelle seemed to have gotten grifting down to a fine art.
