I don't know if this has ever been posted, but apparently Rhys has always been quite the capitalist. Here's a letter to the Times Colonist from 2003.

Everyone who is upset with the recent, and extended, rise in gas prices is in need of an economics lesson.

Businesses exist to make money, not to provide a service without profit. The misconception that a great many people carry around is that companies, such as oil companies, owe them their product. The result of this is people believe such concepts as over-charging or price-gouging even exist: they don't.

The fundamental precept of capitalism is that worth is traded for worth: we trade our money for goods and services If we believe a company is charging too much, then our only option is to not purchase their product at that price. We have no right to their product at an affordable rate.

The tone. It’s the tone. You’re in the supermarket and MarySue is “chastising“ her “IUD complications” baby. She speaks in that special tone, that the child, and every other person within earshot understands is for public consumption. “I’m a better person than you because I said this”. This letter reads like an adolescent wrote it for extra credit. It’s maybe the earliest known example of Community Engagement by the Philosopher Princ/ess. He should definitely include this in any job application.

I’ve done the deep dive on Rhys’s “elite” youth badminton and golf skillz for anyone new and interested.

I’ve yet to find any proof of his provincial badminton title as the local Victoria paper omitted naming the Boy’s U16 champ the year Rhys supposedly won— hilariously they named all the other badminton winners.

In both youth golf and badminton Rhys was overshadowed by several of his contemporaries (a few of whom went on to become actual professional athletes). These young men were getting all the local press, setting provincial records, and winning sportsmanship awards along with titles. For a supposed prodigy athlete, no one in Saanichton or Victoria seemed to know who the fuck Rhys was, or cared.



Also lol fat man, you’re nearly 40 and still obsessing over a title you won in junior high.

that second tweet is kind of shocking. Plop raced twice and won once, so their record is one and one, or 50%. the race they lost, they came in second place, so their record in the top percentile is actually 100%. i wonder how many events the typical elite female cyclist does over a similar period, and how often they win or almost win? how often they win or come in second? i bet it would be incredibly unlikely for your average female cyclist to compete in two events and either win or almost win.

and this is how Plop completely misses the point. that's the sense of dominating that people worry about: Someone like Plop can just rock up one day at a sport they've never competed in before and clean house at a rate well above the average elite cyclist (even if they don't win). Plop's obsession with "winning" in order to debunk this obvious fact is just a red herring.

Whether he wins or loses, though, he is a man and a man belongs in men's sports. Period. It's more than just taking medals away from girls and women. It's about forcing their way into a sex segregated space and all the other negatives that come with that. Especially if you think of women and girls who have cultural beliefs that would make it impossible for them to share a locker room with a man. How many devout Muslim girls are going to be allowed by their families to participate in a sport (or even a school) where a boy is allowed in the bathroom or locker room? Cheating and winning is the most obvious injury, but certainly far from the only one.

Wow, I did not have a complete picture of exactly what ~elite~ badminton really was. I was thinking of people batting a shuttlecock around at a picnic, and assumed men would not have much of an advantage. But here's Rhys, twice the size of any woman on the court, leaping in the air and overhand smashing as hard as he can. Being male is a huge advantage.

iirc the guy was Rhys's doubles partner before the troon-out, and "transitioned" to mixed doubles along with Rhys. The fucking nerve! It's almost as embarrassing to be the "mixed doubles" partner of a troon as it is to be the troon himself. I wonder how much Rhys had to twist his arm to go along with it.

Looking at a few of Rhys' badminton videos, it seems the game can almost be as punishing as tennis or volleyball. Rhys has to take some pretty hard lunges to stay in play.

Which makes me wonder... how did that auto accident injure him so badly that it ended his pro golf dreams, but left him well enough to throw that big chunky bod all over a badminton court? I've never seen Tiger Woods take a dive or scrape his knees, no matter how excited he got.

He didn't just waltz in and win, it took 5 years!

Pfft. What he won't tell you -- unless he fucks up and forgets he shouldn't brag about it -- is that TWO MONTHS after he took up racing he was the winner of the Women's Carolinas Cup. He used to be proud of how quickly he snagged that state championship.

And here's Cece Telfer's record. While presenting as a dude, he was a mediocrity. Rhys is full of shit.

That seems to be his only advantage though - he doesn't seem any quicker or nimbler than his opponent otherwise.
There's something of a pattern here, as time went on he gravitated more and more toward sports that reward sheer manly power. He started with golf, which has something of a strength component but is much more about skill - you can't win just by driving the ball 400 yards. And after progressing through badminton and various forms of biking, he settled on bike sprints, where just being able to muscle up and go ape for 60 seconds is a huge advantage.

It’s finally dawned on me. The incessant self-pimping & bragging about mediocre shit as if it’s all diamonds, the same handful of ‘triumphs’ repeated & embellished each time, the honking great lies propped up with nonsense and hand waving of tedious stuff like facts or accuracy, the way he’s always not just a winner but the BEST winner, the one who’s most popular & loved by everyone - oh but anyone who doesn’t love him unconditionally is just LITERALLY wrong, lying about everything, crushed by his brilliance, bigly bigoted...

That was for a provincial teen “Winter Olympics” that happens annually in BC. All the high schools in BC send athletes to compete in a bunch of different sports. You’re right that it’s just another example of Rhys’s mediocrity. Shouldn’t he be blowing them away winning boys singles badminton gold? Lol nope.
