Arin Hanson / Egoraptor / Grump - "Hey I'm Grump!" of Game Grumps fame, hypocritical SJW doxer, shat himself recording a let's play

A new interview with Barry Kramer has come out detailing his life and exploits thus far, alongside the many ups and downs that got his channel to where it is today. However, at the section labelled "The Final Year With Grumps", Barry just flat-out talks about why he actually left Game Grumps. No bullshit, no vagueness, just straight-up: "this is why I left". I'd recommend checking out a lot of the Grumps' sections because alongside Barry being so incredibly chill and humble, it's also super informative about his time within the Grumps' fanbase and about how unexpected the praise within the fanbase was to him (more specifically, how taken aback he was at things like his editing tutorial inspired a shitload of people), his own anxiety, and so much more

But to summarize that specific segment briefly:
Barry was essentially given what he'd referred to as "an empty plate" after Kevin had been hired. He'd been working with Grumps for so long and so fast, and had to fix a shitload of stuff in such a small amount of time because of YouTube bullshit over the course of years, that inevitably he had nothing left to do after he'd been replaced and had a lot more time on his hands. So he experimented with the live-action stuff, the podcast, Our House, and was finding that nothing really stuck until How 'Bout This Game came about, which gave Barry the boost he needed to start stuff solo. All of this was of his own doing, by the way: he basically just created this stuff just because "Well, let's see how this works" or that "Well fans have been wanting us to do more of this for awhile, so let's try it." A lot of which infamously didn't work, but Barry fully admits that he was fully to blame for how bad these were because writing without an outline or purpose was very much not his wheelhouse.

And eventually the final straw came when the direction of Game Grumps as a whole started to change and Arin wanted to create Game Grumps into a studio centered around himself and Dan exclusively. Barry just felt completely left out and not a part of the team anymore, and didn't like the way the wind was blowing, so he eventually just decided to say "fuck it" and continue solo.

Honestly, good on him. Not only for GTFO of dodge while he still could, but also for owning up to his mistakes so forthrightly. Also, anyone noticing a pattern of how every person who left the Grumps (Supermega, Oney, Jon, Barry) has continually found success while Arin and Dan are stuck in the same old rut of badly playing vidya and telling poop/dick/weed jokes all day? That's gotta be draining on not only Arin, but Dan too. I'm not defending them, let's be clear. They made their bed, they should lie in it; it's just pretty funny, is all.

Arin has surrounded himself with yes men and completely insulated himself from criticism. He probably believes he has done nothing wrong and his friends that cut ties have backstabbed him.

Dan I can see being content with his situation. He was working minimum wage before and during his early tenure at game grumps. He earns more now doing virtually nothing a couple of hours a week, not to mention the boost his band got from him being exposed to the existing GG audience. On some level he must know that this is the peak of his career and is just enjoying the ride until it's over.

That's the biggest problem with surrounding yourself with people who refuse to tell you the truth, especially in a creative industry: Even though everything is your fault, no one has the guts to tell you that so you can't fix any of the problems that are in your product or service.

Honestly, I wouldn't sneeze at what Arin is probably making a month with donations from that stupid card game streaming thing he does by itself, so he's probably not too upset as far as the money is going (there are probably accountants or something that stress about GG as a whole so he barely has to think about breaking even there), but I've got to imagine he's completely fucked off if his creativity hasn't been excised from his noodle.

It wasn't until Kevin started to replace Barry that I really understood how much of a difference an editor can make. Whenever Arin and Dan would tell Barry to insert random shit into a video he would make it work and it would usually be funny. When they tried the same with Kevin it always just fell flat and felt awkward.
I think my favorite example was when Arin and Dan were playing some frog game and Dan just shouts for Barry to do something, and he just edited in bunch of frogs falling. Easily my favorite moment in any modern GG trash.

So LS Mark has decided not only to relist both of his videos on Game Grumps (Both were talked about earlier in the thread but here are the links for those curious: One and Two), but also do a video reviewing Good Game, which was Game Grumps' YouTube Red show. He even paid Arin to do two Cameos for the episode, where I hope he got his money worth because Arin sounds devoid of all emotion and like he is just there for the paycheck, so a normal Game Grumps episode.
Fuck, I remember these videos. Didn't Video Game Dunkey make fun of Mark as a way to shield Arin from criticism too?

You know credit where credit is due. That was great stuff. I think those in retrospect were my favorite grumps moments

How is it that I'm not surprised that Barry sounds like a chill ass dude and Arin basically shit all over him?

I'd seen that KH video of his in that thumbnail, and heard him on a few of the old podcasts the grumps channel had put out, and I'm happy to learn Barry's legit a stand-up dude. Glad to know he didn't settle and had been trying to pull himself up by the bootstraps all this time. If one wants to put up with the crowd around him, he himself was pretty chill to listen to on those podcasts.

Honestly I've always liked Barry and always got the vibe he was cool and reasonable. Controversial, but even more so than Ross, who seemed a bit spergy to me at first. Plus he's involved in the Game Gyaru stuff now... Please God let him not be a degenerate. :optimistic: (No clue how Barry got into editing for a video game youtube show? Goes to show I need to brush up on my lore.)
Glad he seems to be doing okay in life and is actually pursuing creatively fulfilling shit unlike literally everyone at Grumps.
