Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

  • Suicide Girl model and America's Next Top Model contestant have it, spread on Tumblr, that's why.

The tumblr style teminds me a bit of a poor man's version of the Gorillaz/Tank Girl artist, i forget their name.

"Nice style" indeed...

That nose...
Also her eyebrows make me think of Kenshiro, which I'm positive wasn't the desired effect.

I don't watch Adventure Time but isn't the whole appeal of the show how simple the designs are? Like, two dots and a line make a better face than whatever the fuck that face and foot hand are supposed to be.

Jame Hewlett. It's not as common as Adventure Time ripoffs with red nose/fetishy diversity with ugly noses/ pastel shit with passive aggressive kawaii

Why is there like, two/three art styles that all Tumblr artists share?
I don't know...most famous tumblr artists like Gingerhaze and Kate Leth are Adventure Time ripoffs.

The chainmail bikini tumblr that @Yaoi Huntress Earth mentioned had a page where they took a jab at Diana from the Shin Megami Tensei games due to the design having a bunch of breast. One thing to note is that a comment actually pointed out that Diana is a sort of parallel to Artemis. The SMT games do take their own versions of dieties and such. Odin is a purple skinned guy in one of the games, God is a floating yellow head, and Satan is a sort of snake demon with fours arms and breast, and then there is Mara.

Someone in the comments brought up a good point that was never answered, but over all, they said bull testicles would be prefered.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's based on Artemis at Ephesus, who is actually quite different from the virgin goddess Artemis

This is a question that's been circling around in my head for a while. But why do Tumblrites draw faces as ugly as they can?

This is a question that's been circling around in my head for a while. But why do Tumblrites draw faces as ugly as they can?

Several reasons, from my experience and mullings at least:
  1. Piss-poor attempts at combining wacky cartoonish-ness with grim realism, resulting in an unholy mishmash that is more unsettling than it is an aesthetically pleasing style.
  2. The desire to buck the "beauty trend" in cartoons and comics--wherein the characters are usually drawn to look as good as possible--and make them look frighteningly hideous for "representation" or something to that effect. Because screw "da man" and good taste, rebels are all about doing things that go against the norm and rebellion is cool.
  3. They don't bother learning proper anatomy first before diving head-first into drawing. Either because they don't have the resources to learn the basic foundations of the human body (which is a flimsy excuse, because there are free videos, tutorials and e-books all over the Internet to help out budding artists) or they're too lazy to bother.
  4. Since some of them are emulating the style of other, more popular artists, they're too busy cribbing what makes those styles work while also copying their mistakes. Because if that artist's drawings get thousands of notes then surely the same can happen to you, right?

At first, I didn't think the first pic was that bad, despite having the nose and eye bags of an alcoholic. Then I saw the second pic and realized the whole thing was hideous.

Also what the fuck does she mean by "i while so" I know it's popular on Tumblr to type like a complete idiot but at least you can tell what they're trying to say. Here…well...

"I don't think I've drawn FP in a while, so."
It would be much more legible without either the unlikely typo or meaningless question marks, but Tumblrites love to make their text just as ugly and inaccessible as their art.

All those reasons are why I hate this "art style" It's ugly and clearly none of the people who draw in it know what they're doing.

I think the best thing for all of them is to have their accounts pulled from them and sent to a mandatory art class (and failure to attend would result in no internets forever).

And reason why I find this kind of art overall repulsive, it's like a competition between themselves who's gonna shit out ugliest possible art, especially faces. Like, sure go ahead and develop your own style, but it has to be more than ''I'm fighting typical concept of beauty''. :V

There was an interesting argument in the comment section of this Escher Girls post. Because iwouldfly gives a long critique of an artist's redraw, they get upset. There's also an argument in that same thread further down) about whether a character in an erotic superhero comic should dress "impractically" and them iwouldfly finally responds.
