>Didn't read it.
>Won't read it.
>The reviews by the people who did read it are fake though.

Cool. I love Goodreads so much, it's such a great resource for fair and honest reviews.

Well, Kiwis, another day, another massive Book Twitter chimpout.

School Library Journal posted the following cover story article, which likely is SJW-centered and has plenty of data and science to back up its nuanced thesis:

Pretty sure it's supposed to be one of those "We're all the same on the inside!" kinds of images, and that blackface is when you paint yourself up and act out exaggerated stereotypes about black people, but okay.

The person on the book cover's not even fucking black, he's clearly speaking Español. Jesus Christ these people.

EDIT: Oh wait, "Talofa" is a Samoan greeting, I saw "Hola" and went "That kid must be Mexican" then looked closer. Still not fucking black, though.

So, YA is basically a fancy shmancy term for Harry Potter knockoff genre fiction? I fail to see what's "Young Adult" about most of this shit.
It's supposed to be books written at a level that a thirteen-sixteen year old should be able to read with plotlines that high schoolers can relate to. And some YA books actually are just books about problems teens would face, like divorcing parents, peer pressure, drugs, first relationships, etc.

But, for whatever reason, the fanbase for these books has been taken over by older white women who behave like older white women and think everything that is not to their taste has no value. Rarely does it seem a YA has actually been written for a teenage audience, rather than for adult white women who want to appear more socially conscious. That's how you get things like:

-allegedly "feminist" fairy-tale retellings that manage to treat female characters worse than the original stories.
-IdPol checklists that try and fail to use The Youth Slang(TM) to terrible effect,
-Plotless political diatribes that are so ham-handed they almost seem like self-parodies.
-And, of course, Orange Man Bad and literally Hitler.

At one point YA was mostly bad fantasy trying to bank off the Harry Potter formula, but now it's this kind of shit.

Places like SLJ made a concerted effort a few years ago to say they would mainly only consider diverse material, created committees, most of the award nominees are now non-white authors, made statements that everything is too white. The whole point is probably that white kids need to learn about other cultures so they could be good allies. In an effort to show how woke they are, they offended everyone. Talk about winning.

Basically means teen, or to simplify it, if the characters are high school age, it's probably considered YA. It's Harry Potter, but perhaps with the addition of sex, language, drugs or mental health issues.

Looked that up, and apparently this quote is in it:

“We are women. And women are warriors, after all”

I’m pretty sure I’ve read this exact thing at least twenty times before. I feel like someone should sue for plagiarism, but they’re too busy going, “YAS QUEEN!”

I never used it (save for reposting something one time in 2018), but never deleted my account. With all the talk I hear of 'morality contracts' that are retroactive, I don't want to take any chances.
I think not having a massive social media presence is viewed suspiciously at this point anyways. And even with a Big 5 contract new authors are expected to do most of your own marketing. Which to YA publishing seems to mean Twitter, Instagram, probably Facebook groups, some kind of Facebook professional page, and staying on the right side of the GoodReads hive mind. Possibly interacting there.

It’s always great when some representative from whatever hip trending cause is dumbfounded by their lack of “true allies.” The least stupid criticisms (and, for the record, the most stupid ones are those likening this to blackface) seem to agree with the message, but are critical of the timing. Guess it would have been better to make the point on January 31st or March 1st.

I've realised that my second book idea could technically be YA given the themes I had in mind and I sorta did try to have in mind a more fair depiction of high school life and teens then a lot of media has that I really hate ( that includes quite a bit of young adult and wattpad books I hate skim)

I'm still likely Publishing it in the indie sense though since I don't want to be crucified by having a nice straight boy character; a black girl and two lesbians when I'm clearing not black and lesbian and having those issues being handled subtly / more so in the background lol

We had that once, it was tumblr. You could tell all your follows that you sexually identify as a corgi penis on there and no one in the sane world would be the wiser. Like so many other things, it strayed in front of the yahoo made-of-100-dollar-bills bulldozer, and thus everyone who ever ordered a dragon shaped dildo was cast to the internet breeze.

There should be some special genre called Adult Babby fiction and this SJW shit should be shoved off into that.
Not a good idea, don't want to get the ABDL crowd all excited and adding it to the LGBTQIAP. And then when it becomes Science that a 40 year old dude wearing a diaper with a pacifier in his month is actually a 4-month infant we can read about the struggles of the trans-aged. I'm sure we'll have an equivalent to Alex Gino and have loving descriptions of preteen boys changing each other's diapers in a gripping tale about coming out to their parents that they're actually babies in the bodies of pubescent boys.

When this time comes, any gay person that says wanting to shit your pants and masturbate in it is not the same as being gay will be called a gatekeeping truscum piece of shit.
