On one hand, I can almost understand these women's need to go as far as they can in their pregnancy and labor and end up with something to hold and grieve...

But at the same time I think that's a fucking selfish decision for their OWN desires that completely disregards the pain and suffering their child is forced to go through due to their own self-centered demands.

I don’t think most people here have any issue with women who chose to continue a pregnancy despite a devastating diagnosis - it’s the pointless surgeries and artificial means they use to keep the hopeless kids alive and suffering after birth that rubs me the wrong way. I have no problem with women who say they want to follow God’s plan, but that also means not leaving your kid hooked up to a ventilator and feeding tube for entirely futile months and years. Also shitting on doctors who just gave them a realistic prognosis and women who choose to abort. Not to mention lying about the capabilities of their kid and plastering gross dead baby pics all over the internet publically. Your kid isn't perfect of bffs with god or whatever and that's ok, stop making your fucked up offspring into your Mary Sue.

The kid at least looks happy in the pic, so I hope he had some happy moments. Unfortunately it sounds like his short life was pretty rough, apparently even though he had mosaic T13 it affected his heart :(

It's one thing to have an intellectual disability, but I feel like the real issue with these trisomies is all the physical problems they cause. Even if these kids survive birth, do their health issues let them have any quality of life?

Moderately deaf and completely blind. Overall developmental age of 3 MONTHS.

Those who are long lived with this syndrome lack the usual severe heart defects. Severe cleft palates are also associated with low survival rates. As noted, mosaicism can vary widely and improve outcomes, but that isn't saying much when the survival rate is abysmally low.

So for quality of life? For full trisomy, it's shit. Mosaic can vary a lot but severe cleft palettes are a sign of major potato (though noted, this girl lacked a cleft but still had severe brain abnormalities).

This probably varies from disorder to disorder, but to what degree do these dying but not dead on arrival (trisomy) babies suffer? They really look like they're suffering, but they also don't have a complete brain. Given that pain only really exists in the brain, I would hope that they wouldn't be able to feel it. Probably a little :optimistic: though : (

When next to a properly functioning baby you can really tell how pale she is, she must not be getting enough blood flow to all areas to her face. I bet her head feels cold to touch :sad:

the daddy seems to be one of those mad hipster ones, no normal man would tolerate such mad woman.

This just makes me sad. These parents are so busy aggressively pursuing treatments, they're blind to the child's suffering. These kids have no say in what happens to them. They just lay there and exist while adults shove plastic tubes down their trachea & esophagus, pump smelly chemical "nutrition" into their veins, all while hooked up to loud beeping monitors. Their short "lives" wasted away in impersonal institutions, touched by the latex-gloved hands of paid professionals. Real great quality of life!

Some of them like this lady make me wonder if they even care about that. After a point this shit definitely starts coming off as performative, like they enjoy being able to soak up the attention and praise they get from being mama bears to fucked up kids. Especially since they also get to be godly, life-affirming heroes to other fundies for choosing not to abort.

Hell, you even have ones like Kayli's mom who are probably munchies that basically won the munchie lottery. Having a kid that's full of tubes and needs constant care is the whole point.
