Hasn't Democrats been running on eliminating the filibuster for years now?
Yes, but as it currently stands there are two Democrat senators that have said they will not support eliminating the filibuster, and nothing will change their minds. Getting rid of the filibuster is idiotic, it is the only way a minority party has any way to check the tyranny of the majority.

I'm amused that on the first day of this shitshow, every network station was showing it. Mustn't have been popular, because every day thereafter it was only being shown on sub-channels of the networks or a crawl was displayed directing viewers to their websites. Kind of surprised that they didn't force-feed everyone the two days of prosecution arguments and then stopped broadcasting starting on the day of the defense response. But that would be too obvious, right?

So....where does this end? The Dems ain’t gonna stop until everyone MAGA is in a grave or cremated and thrown in the garbage and everything MAGA is seen as akin to Nazi Germany. Or worse than Nazi Germany for that matter.
Thanks to history that haven't been "1984" yet it have gotten exponentially worse than what German National Socialists had done. Communists genociding millions to hundred plus million of their own people is par for the course for them. Every one to the right of the fence sitters are aware at best they and their families will be "re-educated." Most likely it will be death by whatever their executioners have taken a fancy too. Fence sitters who are not snitching will get the same treatment too for being insufficiently communist.

This was set up weeks ago because it's just a PR made response for '22 but it's a good one.

The last time Democrats controlled Congress and the Executive branch (and changed legislative procedure to eliminate the need for compromise in their holy agenda), it backfired spectacularly on them, so the few moderate Dems with more than a goldfish memory are balking at the idea of repeating the mistakes of Obama's first term yet again.

They need to take as long as possible on this trial so they can do as much as is possible to ensure people wait as long as possible for the checks which will be as small as possible.
its for them to acquit hit with another trail criminal or civil start the cycle again to waste more times. :story:

I clicked the link, and that led to Trump being able to get two SCOTUS justices on the bench.

Three really, and flipping Appellate Courts in the process. Obama left so many vacancies and thought they would be filled by Hillary, McConnell was able to just push hundreds of judges through that would have been blocked.

Can the whole thing even be nuked? It survived Trump, and it's fast approaching levels of "it'll survive pretty much anything".
Not practically, no. Most voters focus on party, because that offers consistency in message and a big financial reach via donor networks. And the donors too want parties, because they care about sweetheart deals and something for something that a party might have provided in the past. A new party is unknown, unpredictable, possibly extremist. Even more likely, idealistic and naive.

If a third party forms and sticks around, it plays spoiler for a decade or two then just becomes part of a coalition government where it never gets what it wants but can do nothing but support its master. And even more likely, it’s just called “nazi” and dies swiftly.

Just look at Europe and its fake multiparty system for evidence of all this. Either the populist republicans wears the GOP’s skin like a suit, or the GOP will stick its hand up the populists’ collective ass and use it as a puppet. Third party is simple not viable. Ever.
