Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Now that some of the dust has settled, imo, the political boards are better now than they were. There seems to be a lot less dogpiling on wrong think, and people are actually having to actively engage in debates rather than retarded shit flinging. It would be nice if some of the neutral ratings came back though. Particularly horrifying since a fair number of articles are about gender specials shoving some new thing up their mutilated pelvic wound, and why that's a good thing.

Optimistic would be a bad rating to get back. Yes, it is sometimes used as an insult, but if you use it with a Nazi, it could be interpreted that you want Nazis to succeed. This is just as bad as the disagree rating.

What we're missing is being able to give reactions to reactions.

Like if someone gives you a mati or dumb rating, you could ward it off by rating their rating disagree. You could save a lot of storage space where people don't have to argue back and forth. Instead you have long chains of reactions until a natural consensus is found

Considering most of the people who celebrated the current move were those who are unnaturally and passive-aggressively upset that they received negative ratings from the insidious alt-right AnH hivemind, this would actually just cause more screeching.

Because sometimes I like to share a news story and bitch about trannies. What I want is a place for forum users to do that. What I don't want is a segregated community isolate operating entirely out of this area engaging in factionalism that harms the core community.

It seems odd to talk about factionalism being a harm when the decision seems to be celebrated or derided based upon almost purely factional lines, from what I have seen here.

Meaning that the decision itself likely played into some aspect of that factionalism (at least from what I have seen in various sections of this thunderdome.)

If that were true you wouldn't have people saying that it was a bad move. I worded my post the way I did because it's the truth; there's a certain mindset behind bitching about ratings even if it's not "factionalism". Those people, left right or whatever, got their way and it's not a good sign. This will be the last post I make on this topic, but you of all people seem acutely aware of what the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" mentality leads to and yet you fell into the same trap many people who own websites, companies, etc do. All the mental gymnastics in the world won't change the fact that people on the outside looking in see it for what it is, a capitulation to whiny assholes that will likely lead to further capitulations.

Edit: Oh, and the real shitter is that it's a catch 22 situation. If you complain about the whiny assholes before a capitulation of this sort, you're marked as one of them. But if you do nothing, this happens. If you complain afterwards you're still marked as one of them as well.

Well of course it did. You had the people bitching about negrates and the people who didn't. Just as you have the different sections of the site.
