Since I was speaking on how a fire dept works and who responds to calls (volunteer vs paid) I looked up the Langley fire dept which is the one yaniv has called repeatedly.

So this is pretty much like our dept. Volunteers are the first to respond and can often handle the entire incident without the paid on call people ( who may be farther away or on more critical calls). The volunteers are usually at home, have the scanner/pager and answer the call if able.

The call usually goes out as a description of type of incident, patients age/sex and other pertinent issues. They get to know addresses and frequent flyers quite well. They know who is known for bs and who has genuine ongoing medical issues.

Obviously he is not calling in a a fire or a heart attack so the volunteers would handle it. No need for a highly trained and paid professionals or firetrucks to be there to lift a naked troon. ( But the volunteers do have the same training and do work as paid on call firefighters as well, they are just volunteering on their time off)

An ambulance does not need to be dispatched as yaniv is not in medical distress and only needs to be lifted up (although it might be handy to have to cart him off for the mental issues).

Volunteers do not have to respond because they are not getting paid. They don't have to give a reason why they didn't respond, since they are volunteering. The town and citizenry will support the volunteers decisions because they provide a valuable and free service. They volunteer their free time to save lives and to help patients who truly need it.

No one is interested in volunteering to help a psycho get his rocks off by showing off his genitals ( or lack thereof). That's what mental institutions are for - not fire departments.

Once again, reporting him for being endangered, mentally impaired or such is an appropriate action. He has called 911 dozens of times in just a few weeks. That would indicate that something should be done. Simply fining him and denying him service could give him cause to say his rights are being violated or he is being discriminated against.

By bringing in mental health professions, we would be doing the right thing. Lets say a person is obese and was falling on the floor everyday ( or needed help to the bathroom) and was acting in an unusual way but was refusing to go to the hospital and just wanted us to pick him up everyday. This would not be allowed to continue. Obviously something is wrong there. Either medical or mental help is needed.

We are not the daily pick me up service. We will pick you up a few times and after that you probably need professional care, hired help or equipment. It is our job to get patients to the proper care professionals and in this case, it is to a mental health professional.

There is a scarcity of beds on mental health wards. There is no danger he would be locked away forever or be committed as a punitive thing.

Nor is there a any danger of us getting a felony charge because we act in good faith. We would not completely make up him saying something. We listen carefully and he would be the one who makes crazy statements. He always does. Its just a matter of us documenting it and turning it over to professionals.

Its not "depriving him of his liberty", its getting him the professional help he needs and is absolutely appropriate.

There is no danger of anybody getting a felony charge as a result of any of this because felony charges aren't a thing in canada. That said I wouldn't count on good faith or even factual truth to be any kind of protection if this idiot really wanted to start something. After all, the canadian legal system has repeatedly and explicitly stated that truth is not a defense when it comes to 'hate speech.'
