Yeah. So I watched another one of those Metal Mythos thingies, this time on Gorgoroth, and it wasn't half bad. However, like with Darkthrone and his burning hate boner for Varg Vikernes, he has a massive hate boner for Gaahl and King Ov Hell, so of course he went on a tangent and raged about those and the albums they made for way too long.

He is far from the only person in the black metal fandom to hate on Gaahl, I personally think he's underrated as a vocalist, but hating on him and King Ov Hell acting out as posers is pretty common. Though it's definitely something that's a recurrence in the Metal Mythos series, where razor let's his personal opinion of a musician influence his opinion of the music. The Dokken Mythos is also pretty good as long as he's talking about Dokken but his diatribe against grunge as a genre was out of place and it really felt like he was reaching there. I don't like grunge either but the metal vs grunge tribalism is dumb.

Yeah, fair enough. Personally, I like Gaahl, although he's probably better suited for his own stuff rather than changing Gorgoroth. And yeah, he and King Ov Hell are massively pretentious posers. Still, Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam was a great album.

Yes! It's a minority opinion but I still remember the first time I heard "Carving a Giant". It was around there that I really started liking Gorgoroth. Their cover of "Life Eternal" is fantastic as well.

I do agree with Razorfist on Gaahl as a person. I think his vocals are fine, although he was a lot better in Trelldom. But he is an edgy gay retard. And King ov Hell looks like a faggot as well. Anyways who uses ov unironically is also a faggot

I've mentioned this earlier in the thread, but the Gorgoroth Metal Mythos is a good example of Razor taking clips out of context to spin a narrative. If you look at the way he uses the footage of Gaahl from the True Norwegian Black Metal doc and compare it to its original context you can really see the spin work he does. For example, he takes the sound bite of Gaahl saying "I have no interest in getting a flock of sheep" and then contrasts that with the scene at the end of the doc where the VICE journo asked Gaahl to "guide him", as if that's some major point of hypocrisy on Gaahl's part. In doing so, Razor edited out the minute or so that Gaahl sat in complete silence after the journo's request, clearly annoyed. I'm not saying that Gaahl isn't an edgy cunt, he is, but the way Razor portrayed him, like others Razor has run spin on, was inherently dishonest.

Gaahl's work with Trelldom really highlights why some people love him as a vocalist. "Til Et Annet" is one of my favorite black metal albums ever, it has some absolutely out of this world vocals on it. Gaahl's work with Gorgoroth produced some great tracks, but a lot of crap as well. For every masterwork like "A World To Win" or "Carving a Giant" you get a lot of garbage like "Litani til Satan" or "Unchain My Heart". I don't think people would care about Gaahl's edgy boy persona as much, had his most prominent musical output been more consistent.

That's a good point, he does that in the Bathory Metal Mythos as well. He makes it sound like Quorthon never admitted the influence that Venom had and was even ripping them off to a certain extent, and he does this in part by using clips from this interview while not including the part of the same video where Quorthon says that he got the ideas from "a certain band from Newcastle", implying that the whole rivalry was a lot more tounge-in-cheek than razor lets on.

Yep. Plenty of examples of him taking things out of context, or coming to halfassed conclusions to defend his heroes. One of the big ones I remember was in the Danzig episode, where he claims that video of Danzig getting knocked the fuck out was all a set up by some shit band looking for attention. If you actually start looking into it yourself, you'd find out that this entire situation was the result of Danzig screwing over a whole bunch of local bands he'd gotten to tour with him - as in, didn't allow them to get on the stage after he was finished. The band confronted Danzig about it, Danzig starts acting like he's a badass and gets clocked. The reason they were filming it to begin with is because they liked filming their antics as a band, like Pantera did. But according to Razorfist, they were just pussies looking for clout, nothing more.

The Metal Mythos videos in general are pretty hit or miss. Some are pretty good, like the Accept one or the recent Anthem one. Mostly because he doesn't really have any stupid grudges to stick in.
