Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh dies at 70

Conservative talk show radio host and Republican party icon Rush Limbaugh has died. He was 70 years old.

His wife Kathryn announced his passing on his radio show Wednesday, saying Limbaugh died earlier this morning.

“Rush will forever be the greatest of all time,” she said.

Limbaugh had been battling advanced lung cancer since February.

Back in October, Limbaugh provided this somber update on his show: “You know, I wake up every day and thank God that I did. I go to bed every night praying I’m gonna wake up. I don’t know how many of you do that, those of you who are not sick, those of you who are not facing something like I and countless other millions are.”

Former President Donald Trump awarded Limbaugh the Medal of Freedom during his most recent State of the Union address

This appearance only a few days after his he revealed his diagnosis on his show.

“I can’t help but feel that I’m letting everybody down with this, but the upshot is that I have been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer,” Limbaugh said in February.

“The Rush Limbaugh Show” first aired in 1988.

The man did more than any modern politician for the average man, may he have eternal piece and dittos. I was hoping he could come back for one more episode just to put the entire GOPe on blast, telling people to just clean house, fuck 'em all, but he never got the chance. This feels much like when Phil Hartman died, just a real sense of something good being lost.

Whatever the case, they will try and make Ben Shapiro the next Rush, you tell them all to fuck off with that shit.

I was never a fan of his politics or personality (I didn't know him much, but he seemed like the grandfather-- if not merely exemplary-- of boomer conservatism and all its deficiencies), but I always felt terrible about his diagnosis. Cancer, especially with the severity he had, isn't something I'd wish on my worst enemy-- it's not just the disease itself that's bad, but also the psychological strain of having your body progressively fail on you as you bank on treatments that have a pronounced chance of not working. That, and the isolation that having the disease often brings, despite the love of those around you-- the only person that'd understand your pain is another sufferer.

Lord have mercy.

I remember listening to Rush with my dad driving around town back in the 90's when I was a teen. Say what you will about his politics he most definitely crafted and honed the art of conservative talk radio into it's golden age. There won't be another one like him for some time if ever. Rest in peace.
