I'll give it that he embodied the absolute reach of free speech in America, and occasionally called out real shit with the Left before it became mainstream. But that's it.
What he actually did was reassure several generations of Americans that it was a patriotic virtue to be completely ignorant, and that they were entitled to lord over the world without knowing anything about it. People don't hate him because of 'wrongthink', they hate him because half the voting population of the United States is convinced they hear FBI comms in their radiators because of this guy, including people I know. People who are completely sane until you talk politics and then it's half an hour of how Congress is run by lizard people.
The funniest thing is, it was just a performance that everyone took so fucking seriously. Like so many of the loudest voices on the American right, all he had to do was say deranged nonsense about Liberals and watch the money roll in from truck drivers who still think Jimmy Carter is president.

In the nineties Rush and Al Gore were the only people I knew who were or talked about American politics. He had interesting views on feminism which get's parroted a lot these days, and he defended video games He'll be missed.

It's interesting to see because Rush is honestly a mixed bag like all people (mostly leaning towards the negative but a mixed bag none the less). On one hand he was a complete Republican partisan and even sucked Bush Jr's toes while he was in office (aka supporting the Iraq War). While on the other hand his style's influenced a lot of the online commentators of the present day.
In my opinion Rush Limbaugh's influence on the internet is very underrated once you consider that his vigor and style has influenced internet political commentators both left wing and right wing a like.

While I do think that Rush was probably pretty ignorant of a fact like that, I still think he was 100% correct about Sandra Fluke. I remember way back listening to Howard Stern who would bitch and moan about Rush Limbaugh allegedly stealing his act. Just think about that, the other most famous & influential voice of 90s Radio was pissed at him too. And Rush to my knowledge never even talked shit about Stern.

What killed the burger right is its anti-intellectualism, which I guess started with the "new right" under Reagan. You see conservatives before that and they were on an intellectual level the same as the guys on the left just with a different perspective. The left is the exact same way but with a different take on it. Instead of having to dumb something down, they reject any inquiry at all because the concept itself is racist. Some black guy gets shot by police? Well the police officer was wrong and you can't even question that or wait for more facts because doing so would be racist. Of course, we find out after a month and a dozen burned-down buildings that the black guy shot at the police first but by that point, the damage is already done and the left has moved onto their next pearl-clutching cause. When "facts" are needed, they don't care about those and will rely on what an "expert" said. It doesn't matter if the "expert" has been wrong a million times or if they're not really an "expert" at all and rather some columnist at a liberal rag. The left just pretends to care about facts. Even if the dumbass wing of the conservatives need things to be put into simple terms of them, that's a lot better than what the left does.
