General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Alright so a friend of mine brought this to my attention. I advise that this be taken with the biggest grain of salt possible. This guy claims to be a cover employee on his twitter profile. With Alternative being described as having a manga series, I thought this was interesting as some sort of potential leak from back before it was even announced. Again, this guy can just be some weirdo considering he has no other previous work uploaded and only has those two manga panels and another picture.

He tweeted this out this manga panel with Fubuki back in December. Tweet and Archive

Now on 1/6 he tweeted this manga panel with Mio, Fubuki, and Ayame. Tweet and Archive

Edit: I did reverse google image search the panel of Mio, Fubuki, and Ayame and it looks like all of the results are from replies or retweets of this guys tweets. So I assume this is the only source for these panels so far.
That’s Kurose’s (GS manga artist’s) work alright. If it’s not on his personal twitter, than this dude may be legit.

i think towa's dog is dying? she's saying that "It's really hard to be around your dog when he's dying."
First time I’ve ever heard of Towa having a dog in the first place. I know that she got a kitten recently. If true, maybe her temporary leave of absence back at Valentine’s Day was because she took this guy to the vet?

So she had a plan to forge her path, but she ended up running into a retirement plan instead?
It's not a bad problem to have and she can likely monetize it on the Demondice side should she decide to move on from Hololive later on but I've always wondered (as personal rrat) on how Karen is taking it that Demondice is her genuine, creative voice & alter-ego and that Calli is somehow overshadowing all that and will always leave an indelible mark on her creative work out in the publuc online space if/when she does decide to move on.

You know, I don't remember Okayu ever being sad.
"Mogu-mogu" is actually cat-speak for "I want to kill myself"

...abuse...parasocial relationship stuff...DSP... "played videogames"
Others have mentioned abuse happens, but I think being a digital performer offers an extra layer of protection. In the idol meat market, a company sequesters the talent in a dorm together, watches everything they do and limits all other human interaction. Those options just aren't as effective when it's primarily a talent working out of their own bedroom with their own equipment and the companies trying that approach seem to be failing at it. There's also the threat that smart talents could claim to be voice actors and union up if things got really bad.

Wasnt alkatraz basically "dont make deals with the devil" which if its inspired by irl life then its a deal that karen came to regret?
Not here, anyway. Other people I talk to have so I may echo their sentiments a bit. Most of my breakdowns have been from Karen's current work as Calli as I have yet to sink my teeth into the Dice discography proper.

Let's see if I can at least give a Cliffnotes version since you were nice enough to ask.

For Alkatraz, this is honestly the first time I've taken the time to read the lyrics and try to discern a message from it. The VISUALS are all about making a deal with the devil and the danger, but the lyrics are actually more about the subversion of authority and taking matters into your own hands. Considering her past work on American Saikoro is extremely political (aside from stupid shit like Gang Gang Kawaii which is just making fun of the idea that she's a closet fujoshi thirstin on weebs, may or may not be true) I wouldn't be surprised if she toned it down for Alkatraz. The first verse is mainly about boasting about herself and her circle, but towards the end it gets into the idea that she chooses to be an outsider artist and doesn't want a bunch of wannabes telling her what to do. The second verse can be seen as her ranting against politics with the idea of the "warden" being just as insane as the people he's locking up, but everyone only follows him since he's in charge. The animation plays this up with his silly dance and then it has the 2 honkytonk hustlers (they have names but I don't read Dice's comics so I don't know what they are) and Dice herself doing that same silly dance to distract the guards so she can break them all out; however, it could just as easily be a commentary on the industry and how the people who are at the top aren't necessary the ones in the right despite a bunch of sycophants saying otherwise and trying to compare her work (or anyone else's) with someone who is far more successful, essentially the equivalent of stream backseaters who sperg out when someone dares not to play the metagame of something that's competitive.

She honestly doesn't mind selling her soul so long as she's in full control of things, which is why she wants to break out. This is pretty obvious even after she became a corpo vtuber, I don't think she would have gone into it if she wasn't explicitly given creative freedom with her music.

Granted, Alkatraz is what I refer to her as her "safe for radio single" since it's catchy and lacking her typical bite that it would make it to a few plays on underground radio, or at least has that style. Her other music is good but can be difficult to listen to, especially things like Hazy Skyscraper which are just really depressing.

Hazy Skyscraper may or may not be about AO in particular but it is definitely about her feelings of isolation. Cursed Night is sort of a sequel to Hazy Skyscraper in that regard since she still has misgivings about herself but is more willing to let people in, but Hazy Skyscraper is 100% about Karen's struggle with emotional intimacy. She would rather convince herself that it's better off being alone with some token interaction with acquaintances than pursuing a deeper more meaningful relationship with anyone in particular, which is the titular "hazy skyscraper." It's a far off thing that she knows is important and can see it but can't quite make out the details, but just being able to know it's there is good enough for her so she stays distant. Said skyscraper could also be a mirage (which is why it's hazy) so she might be afraid that if she gets close then she'll realize she was going after something that was never there in the first place.

Soundless sounds like it's actually about realizing she wants that kind of connection with someone, like she's grown so cold that she met that one person (maybe AO) who started to remind her what being warm feels like and she's fucking terrified of that and is trying to make sense of her own heart. She also feels like that she needs to make her move quickly or lose her chance at happiness for good, but because she can't figure out what to do she's convincing herself that it's okay to let it pass and cherish what she's already found. "I found you, a harmony inside the darkness was bound to a melody I'd never heard before" definitely sounds "I found someone I really like and kind of want to pursue romantically but I have no fucking clue how to do any of that."

Once again I feel obligated to point out that Kakigori Galaxy Astronaut is her magnum opus and people really should give it a proper listen. She pours her heart out all over that album.

For reference, Yes. Karen can sing and she has a damn good voice, but her weakness is her range. She's working on expanding it but Soundless is really fucking powerful and emotional even if her vocal work can be seen as "needs work."

Warawa just reached 400k in the middle of singing.

And "Hayamin" comes to sing homura to celebrate. And just when I thought bocchan was getting lonely he showed up for real.

If we're gonna simp for indies now, this one came across my radar due to Karen association. Rachie knows her and is actually a talented singer.

Then she does shitposts like this. Makes sense that she'd be friends wit the reaper.

She also covered KING (because of course she did) but unlike the holoID girls, did so in Indonesian.

Pivoting to a little indie chubaa we've discussed before, Lyrica is just totally pandering to her Filipino audience at this point:

YT Stream here

Stream has the same chaotic energy as a Filipino holiday gathering and everyone's fucking drunk and fighting over the karaoke machine.
Lyrica is VERY close friends with ID Gen 1. Also, Haachama is doing weird shit again.

It would be more disturbing if she wasn't.
She apparently is ending it because she got out of ideas

Edit: and she got the sads so that is why she has not been streaming recently

Edit 2: doomposting everywhere jesus christ dudes she just told us she was ok

She should be proud of what she did, though. I don't know of any other entertainer who can just come up with an ARG involving themselves and just playing off the fact that they're a naturally weird person.

Whatever she does next, I'm sure it's going to be amazing.

EDIT: Luna's watching the Nintendo Direct.
