Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Minecraft fully deserves it status as the best selling game of all time, while sure it doesn't have a story unless you do copious amounts of drugs and read into every single tiny detail as "lore", its still is so open and has something for everyone that I can't see it even being considered a "bad game" by anyone not trying to bait people.
Meh. I can see your point but I greatly prefer Garry's Mod as my source of sandbox autism. Being able to download maps from other vidya / movies / cartoons / whatever and run around them shooting stuff takes way longer than it should to get old.

A man after my own tastes. Gmod is great fun but its not sandboxy enough to fill my autism for when i want to be like Marco polo but with more genocide than respect.

Give me an example of one that isn't.

(Keep in mind I'm specifically talking about turn-based JRPGs like Pokémon).

Turn-based strategy/tactics or action RPGs like Legend of Zelda, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, etc don't count.
Depends on the JRPG. I find older ones like Breath of Fire, Wild ARMS to be good and some newer ones like Bug Fables which plays like the first two Paper Marios to be good. As well for some of Kemco's JRPGs that have appeared on the EShop.

Finding a good JRPG that suits you is kind of a trail and error thing. I use to like Final Fantasy up until X where everything kind of felt lame. Tales Of is a hit or miss for me.

Zelda is an Action RPG or whatever you wanna call it and Bloodstained: RON is a Metroidvania. The two 8bit centred ones are based off classic Castlevania series.

Speaking of. I do like the Metroidvania styled Castlevania games. Aira of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow and PoR were some of my favourites.

Zelda isn't an RPG of any type period.

Minecraft bores me to tears and I don't want to play it but I can't call it a bad game and I see the appeal. The game is just not for me and I'm fine with that. That's a concept completely alien to socjus people.

Innocent Life is the best Harvest Moon out there, and its a shame almost no one played it.

With the whole MCU going on, not one fucking game studio could make anything like City of Heroes again. DC Universe Online fucking sucked day one and I never went back to it, because the LAST fucking person I want giving me shit is fucking Robin's gay tight wearing ass. Every other fucking super hero game was complete trash.

Then logging onto more MMO's, basic shit that CoX got down pat early on is STILL missing from the fucking games.

Every MMO that comes out is all "Ooooh, check this out!" then when you check it out, it's fucking underwhelming. Or paypig centered.

I don't know, maybe I'm getting too old to enjoy da vidya.

I don't think obsidian entertainment is that good as other's make them out to be. I'm not a fan of their style of writing, a great example is the writing for icewind dale main quest. It comes across as trying to be as epic as possible, even though it doesn't make sense. This also includes their companions, as other's have mentioned with Veronic and others in the bad rpg followers thread. They try to overbalance their games to the point it doesn't make sense. Original pillars of eternity vs the current one is a good example of them constantly balance changing the game. Next, they make equally buggy games like Bethesda. Bugs that I encountered in kotor1 at the very end due to memory leak showed up in the beginning of kotor2, even when I restarted with the unofficial mod patches. Finally, they rush making their games. This might excuse the problems with their games, but they constantly take on these jobs to make a rushed product. Even when they're doing their own projects, a lot of the times it seems like they're rushing.

Zelda and Metroid should logically be considered the same kind of game, whatever you want to call that.

But on-topic: Classicvania is Bestvania.

Judging a game by its length is fucking moronic. Inside is only 3-4 hours long, but it’s still a really impactful and memorable experience. The worst is when people claim a 13 hour game is really short, which means they clearly play nothing but open world games.
I don't want to put 80+ hours into a single playthrough of any game.

Battletoads is probably not a good game, there’s way too many cheap deaths.
I despise DJ Octavio fights in Splatoon, they take forever and are piss-easy until the last hit.

I’m not sure if very many people actually think it is. It’s mostly remembered for being absurdly difficult even for its time.

It’s in a league of “It’s so bad, it’s good” kind of games.

Just stop playing MMos and turn to single player games or games with limited parties like Monster Hunter.

The Atari 5200 controller is the most influential in the history of video games. Both the OG and Trac-Ball varieties.

Is bitching that a game is too short a thing once you stop being a kid and get full time employment? I had this stupid $.50/hr rule when in high school, but that's when I had fuck all for money and the opposite as much time.

On the subject, 4U frustrates the fuck out of me. It has all the components for it to be the best title in the series, but with how busted mounting as a mechanic is and how neither the Insect Glaive or the Charge Blade were properly balanced, it makes for a more boring experience.

Fatalis was also made into a complete bitch due to the nature of mounting and his significantly reduced health pool. Like yeah, his health pool back in the older games was absolutely excessive, but 4U went way too far in the other direction. (He did get an expanded move set that still makes him capable of triple carting people who aren't careful, but his vulnerability to mounting completely undermines that)

I hope one day someone is able to mod the game and adjust these issues and make that version playable online similar to how MH1-3P are now through Hunsterverse. That would be absolutely fantastic.

Until then, Freedom Unite is probably still the best in the series for me, warts and all. And I didn't start with that one.
