General GunTuber thread

On the topic of gamer gunners, let's not overlook Karl huffing his own farts since the start of his channel over the match he runs. I can't lie, I prefer his 2GACM format over the typical pay to win bullshit in most matches where you're shooting at targets 3 yards away and barely moving at all, but I think it's a real stretch for Karl to act like his match is truly practical and applicable to the real world.

... I mean I'm not going to lie, I don't have a Beretta but I do have a number of the 3rd Gen S&Ws which have even larger slide safeties I've never been fond of and this literally did not occur to me until right now. Granted they're not the exact same design and I don't have one of them to fingerfuck right at this moment to see if it works the same way but my mind's kind of blown at that too.
Holy shit just pulled out my 92A1 and can confirm!

Disagree, I shoot at least 12-18 knife-wielding assailants while obesely shuffling my way to work every morning, without 3gun matches to hone my skills I'd be a total goner.

I guess it depends what you mean by practical. No shooting competition is ever gonna reflect 99.9% of defensive shootings for regulars citizens. and competitions more aimed at LEO/MIL aren't practical to everyday people. The most practical elements for an individual are speed, accuracy, and performing under stress and adding movement and physical events to shooting are probably the most practical way to do that and safer than actually shooting at the competitors. There are other competitions like the tactical games which takes it even farther with more physical events and a bunch of hard limits on equipment, which I wonder how Karl feels about them?

I can confirm that its not true for my late 70's model 92S but the decocker is a different shape and is super stiff.

He seemed to like tiger valley.

I never had an issue using my thumb on the decocker for my 5906, and it works perfectly, even before I completely refurbed the gun last year.
the problem on the 92S is that the decocker isnt really a lever shape like on other models. its more like a button on a swing arm. there is very little area available to just push it forward. luckily Beretta saw this a fixed it on later models.

I decided to look at some smaller guntubers, just to see what was out there and maybe find some interesting content.

It was a terrible mistakes. So I present you the GunThots whining about gas port sizes.

The thought that nobody's machined a FAL-style variable gas block for an AR yet does baffle me, though.

Cause direct gas is just better for us peasants. i think studies done on piston vs DI came to conclusion that piston systems only become worth it when full auto and suppressors were used extensively.

Oh, yeah, sure, but you could still put a turn-valve into a DI block to lower the pressure. Maybe not so variable as the FAL where half the settings don't work on half of the rifles, but at least a few different sized holes could be useful. </gunsperg>

What would be the worth of that though? 5.56 is already light recoiling to begin with, so unless you're running a suppressor or you're some high level competitor it probably doesn't matter all that much.

The absolute irony of that is - if I'm remembering correctly - that first generation of HK416 gas blocks was extremely overgassed when suppressed, the second gen had a port drilled in front which made the shooter slightly more visible at night (and a lot more visible under IR) and then only the third gen had a knob to twist it into suppressed mode.

I don't know the timeline of what went on with the 416s in service with US SOF and what gas blocks they were getting but I would guess that after getting feedback HK drilled the gas ports so it would be just slightly overgassed with suppressors on and slightly undergassed with it off, and the carbines were shot suppressed most of the time.

GunThots are a little contradicting of themselves; making fun of instagram trigger tappers while giving off the same vibe themselves.
Reno May in this video is the epitome of what wrong with the instagram gun culture. Whiteclaw morale patches and everything....

I'd be lying if I said I didn't chuckle when they were reviewing firearms from their bed. Too bad they got rid of that format and became a little more "serious".

The merging of gun culture with dudebro shit is sickening. Herrera, James Reeves on TFBTV and Reno May all strike the same chord of gay and boring with me, Garand Thumb is similar but tolerable because of his actual experience but still can be cringe

Confidence and halfway decent production value gets you popularity.
Herrera has neither but he builds AKs sometimes so that's why he's got a following.
