I would have noped out too if there was a monthly subscription. I liked SA back in the day but not enough to pay monthly.
Yeah a subscription service would of hasten the exodus of good users in 2010 and beyond. Even I thought it wasn’t worth paying $10 for in 2008 and I thought the flashtub was worth watching.

Alternatively, if Lowtax implemented a subscription service and revenue dropped from the poor moderation/admin bans. He may have intervened. When it comes to money, that was the only thing to catch his attention.

The flat fee was much better than subscription, but what you paid for should be worth it. Archives has been beaten to death, but a single fee to pay for avatar changes worked, for yourself or others.

So extend this. The more changes you want, the cheaper per change it is, but the more Lowtax takes in. And probably some get forgotten / lost / banned and then you (Lowtax) earn more than you provided. But he’s an idiot and instead lost it all.

And yeah, IKs, probation, probation removal, post count modifications (which used to matter a lot), just do the same thing. But overall... you had a service thousands of people were paying for, and even people would donate when you made the usual internet crybaby things like “I’m sick”.

And then the mods fucked it up since they would change it for their pet followers.
And that’s another problem. Giving the free mods the ability to give / revoke 6 hour probes, okay. One week, month, 100k hour probes? Probably okay. Except it should be more free to give than revoke.

Revocation for those just cost :10bux:, which is also okay. Or it was free if a mod gifted it. How much money did he let slip?

Oh, and he let a culture grow that was pretty much the antithesis of where it started, but that’s a different conversation.

Charging a fee to change some one avatar was one of the best moves Lowtax ever did that I feel it was no way his idea. So many great avatar wars and red text avatar that were created over the years.

Yeah, I was going to say this. No need for a subscription. Being able to pay $10 to change someone else’s avatar, and needing to pay $5 to change your back - genius idea and probably made far more money than a subscription fee. It gave people real satisfaction to fuck with the avatars of ppl they hated or sometimes liked, then he got paid again when the person decided they didn’t want to deal with an insulting blaring after days weeks or months.

That's why I initially said only for mod status. That's not a thing you can do for everybody but you absolutely sell every little bot of power to some whale with more money than sense, doesn't matter if it's completely broken equipment in any given throwaway trash free to play game or mod status, there's always gonna be someone who will pay to crush all the other players or some guy they disagree with. Somebody did after all end up buying the place and I have no reason to believe it would not have worked for maybe a decade on a smaller scale.

i thought everyone was going to leave because of how problematic everything was? a lot of great goon knowhow went into building innovative new forum concepts like something-waffle, nairaland, and scarboil.com (now joebiden.land)

He sold admin status to Fistgrrl for some measly amount ($3k?) and she used it for juice at her job in a market research firm. Fistgrrl begat ozma (fat) begat icequeen (icemommy!) begat faggotry begat trannies begat trump (PBUH)

If I was lowtax I'd have offered $100 'premium' accounts. They give no extra features, and be invisible to staff and users. The only thing they do is when I try to drunkenly and madly ban you, it posts "LOWTAX TRIED TO BAN USER FOR THIS POST BUT GOT CUCKED BY HIS PREMIUM ACCOUNT" in big red letters and then bans me for a day from my own forum.

This is great. Can you get Null to add that here?

I wonder what happened to Fistgrrl. Is she some marketing guru leading k-pop stans and alpha teen boys to consumerist nirvana on Tik-tok for the CPC now?

Wasn’t she the girlfriend of the fattest SA mod Zach? There were two Zachs but this was the fat guy who kept trying to publish comedy books - like My Tank is Fight) IIRC he abandoned a wife and kids in Ohio to go live off of Fistgrrl’s marketing salary in Illinois. I half expected to see him on MSHPL one day.

The thing I remember most about Zack "Giest Editor" Parsons was his delusions of being an actual writer. His last book was some sort of lame attempt at "deep" sci-fi.

liminal states

I can't believe the website is still up, including the hilariously awful short film.

Oh one interesting thing I found out about Zack, his last facebook update was on Feb 13, 2020. Which is coincidentally right around the time the BPD cokewhore drama erupted.

Wait wait wait, are you saying Logan day was actually zack “geist editor” parsons this whole time?
lol that would be a great plot twist.

But I think he went radio silent because he's a coward that didn't want to pick a side, either defend Lowtax or not.
