I think it was some edition of the light novel or something where the author explained he wrote Welcome to The NHK as a way to get himself out of the NEET/hikki life and it didn't work because he was just coasting on the earnings from the property.
What I'm trying to get at is that if all it takes for you to leave the NEET/hikki life is a really good story, you're one of the lucky ones who aren't too deep yet. Even if the existence is shit, you will get comfortable with it and not want to leave.

NEETS are definitely parasites on enabling parents, but most of the good shit that comes out of 4chan comes from them. Would society be better served if they were a smooth brain pump bitch or cashier at a gas station 30 hours a week instead of them photoshopping 300 different soyjak reaction images? Sure it’d better for them as people but we’d lose a lot of funny content.

Ditto phrased this somewhat poorly, but he's right. Sexual access is a strong driving force for men, and society understood this, harnessing intense male energies into the work -> pussy pipeline. Of course, it also helped that society considered you an absolute POS and wasn't going to let you leech indefinitely if you were unmarried and idle, but having to work to attract a mate and support your offspring was a huge factor. Now, for numerous reasons, that's not the case, so why not slack off if you can? Obviously reddit posters are going to die alone, so why wouldn't they choose anime and tendies over drudgery and wage cucking?

Because I come from a place where "neet" aka dole bludgers have been doing so for longer than you have been alive, and it's more off putting than tendies and mommies basement. In fact it's such a huge disappointment that sbs did a doco on it. I want to have more pride than that

That, and you can live without parents complaining/ struggling to pay rent. Once you have a taste of that freedom, peaceful solitude and control over your life you don't want to go back.
