Jesus Christ. .docx is an open standard (literally: it's standardized as part of ECMA-376) and is part of any of a number of free-to-use open source office programs, including Libre Office. Maybe the open source solutions aren't as polished as Microsoft's, but maybe that's because OpenOffice didn't spend ten billion dollars developing their freejack solution. I'm not surprised he goes for the biggest option vs using a free version like idk... Google Docs maybe? It functions the same as Word365 in terms of allowing people to edit your stuff, and is available in both browser, offline and even android app form, which can be loaded onto chromebooks easily. And since it's browser and app based, it can work on literally every device he has that can browse the internet.
