The theory for why none of them touched the food outside of a few cans is that Gary was the only one to do so because the other men were so mentally-challenged that they didn't think to do it. The other men were basically like giant toddlers with very bizarre ways of thinking, and they mostly likely thought that taking someone else's food, even if they were starving to death, would be stealing, and that would be wrong, and that they would get in trouble, and be arrested for it.Kinda...See the weird shit was the cabin they stayed in? There was food there and they could have survived the cold weather if they actually just got lost like theorized and used the place for shelter. In all likelihood the Schizo most likelly was the one who killed them, but theres other oddities to this case if I recall.
It seems laughable to think this would be the case, but one of the men had to be forcibly pulled from his burning house because he thought if he left it, he would be "late for work" in the morning, and often questioned why he had to stop at stop signs. That's the level of intelligence these men had. Even if they did want to the eat the food, they might not have been able to in the first place, because they probably didn't have the problem-solving skills to open it, and once Gary left, they had no one to do it for them.
In general, Nexpo did a huge disservice to this case by playing down just how mentally-challenged these people were when it's a huge factor into what actually happened in it.
