The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Thread

Got Persona 5 Strikers on a whim this morning on switch. 4 hours in. Pretty much a sequel to Persona 5 so I found it easy and cozy slipping back in.

Unlike those Q games and all the other spinoffs, it seems to be a real Persona game with an actual story that isn't a fanfic. Wouldn't mind if future titles played like this rather than turn based battles.

yeah it's persona 5 Scramble: the phantom strikers in japan and from my "totally legit copy" so far it's fun. As someone who doesn't care much for mousu's myself after trying hyrule warriors, the combat has a shit ton of options with the environmental objects, Shoot, skills, all out attacks, ect. it feels more like what persona 5 would be as an action game and it's better for that since I think these Mousu crossovers like FE, Zelda, and now persona need that source series flavor to really make them stand out. also jokers new dialogue choice art looks like the yes chad meme for some reason lol.

Strikers is fun enough but the story is a shittier version of the third semester from Royal.

Holy shit the layout for this first jail or whatever is annoying. I have to turn off spotlights but I have no idea where I am. I also really dislike the requirement to trigger the musou moments.

I played Digital Devil Saga 1 for the first time a bit earlier, playing just the starting first hour or two. For some reason, going into it I expected a story less over the top compared to mainline SMT, and somewhat more reigned in like the Persona or Devil Summoner games.
Instead, I got a story that felt more over the top than any SMT game, with the basic setup to the story being "hey you're a demon now against your will, go murder and consume the corpses of 99% of the population so that you can achieve Nirvana". Perhaps the story seems overly excessively over the top to me due to my own current intoxication, but the story seems absolutely bonkers so far and I'm excited to play the rest of it.

It dabs on Royal, rendering it completely non-canon and the bosses play like something straight out of SMT: Imagine. For a musou game it's extremely polished and well put together.

speaking of royal, my primitive reptilen brain notice something while playing it. there were alot of black npcs on the streets of japan. not actual npc but you know, the crowds of people. was it like that in the vanilla version or what?

I thought in order to get him as a party-member in the sequel, you have to be an ass to him every time?
nah, you have to be nice and tell him you comrades in both games too get him. hell, if you just a good guy in general, you get all the other special stuff for Agelica and Gale

The reason why it is a sequel to the original Persona 5 and not Royal is simply because Royal and Strikers started production at pretty much the same time,

It is quite likely that the story of Strikers was finished before all of the new story elements that would be in Royal were 100% set in stone and it would set back the production too much to try to add Royal stuff to the game so late into development.

Played some Persona 5 Strikers/Scramble a couple of days ago and the anti-aliasing on PC is fucking pathetic, but I guess it has to do with the fact that it's a musou game ported from the Switch. My PC isn't a supermachine, but I'm playing it on the highest settings minus the rendering scale. It is pretty fun though and I like the music options. It is pretty sad that the DLC music is the closest we'll get to them recognizing Persona 1 and 2 duology, but what else is new.

If you want to. Persona 4 Golden is pretty flexible on party member usefulness, aside from Yukiko being practically essential
If you want to use Kanji, just remember the party member you drop doesn't get EXP. So unless you feel like grinding them up too, dropping a party member is a commitment. This isnt like p3 where rotating is encouraged or p5 where backup party members get exp. Chie's the easiest to drop for Kanji, but you'll lose the duo move Chie/Yukiko have
As for items, you just want to keep it light. Dont spend loads of money on gear, keep a healthy stock of Goh-oms and status heals. This dungeons boss is fairly easy

Yeah, that was prob the biggest jarring thing aside from the fact that the person that worked on the UI for the menus CLEARLY was not brought on to work for the project.
