It's gonna be hilarious if they logic-spiral into hating everything they once liked, get depression and then go suicidal. OH WAIT A SECOND.
It has already begun.

I give credit where credit is due, this is rather 'based', if I dare use the term.

Usually I give Drinker criticism for jumping too quickly to anti-SJW talking points, but MauLer would never have criticized the lockdowns. He's paid lip service by telling his audience to 'stay safe' a couple times, to my memory. He's earned a bit of respect from me.
He could cut down on the reaction clips in his videos though. But to each their own. I'm in no place to tell him how to make his videos.
Now that I think of it, he doesn't waste time on Twitter arguing with people. He's mostly just giving his thoughts and opinions. It's surprising that the supposed drunk Scotsman is more respectful that the supposed classy Welshman. He also doesn't clickbait like those Fandom Menace grifters like Nerdrotic, Geeks and Gamers, and Doomcock.
I also just noticed his Patreon is sitting at $3,621 with 954 patrons, and his last update was a month ago.

A comparison: (MauLer has not updated his patreon since 2019)

Critical Drink does not need MauLer, in fact, he has long since eclipsed him.

I don't know why he bothers with Mauler or EFAP, he's doing quite well on his own, and is a published author. Haven't read any of his books so can't say whether or not they're good but he's already 10x more successful than Mauler or even Rags has ever been.

Also meant to post this stuff last night, but Mauler got into a bit of an argument with someone over Man of Steel in the Discord:

I don't see how any of this ruins the film. Both of them are massively overthinking it. I said this before, but if MauLer did not have the context giving him a reason to hate it, I think the roles might have been reversed. He'd be the one using inference to fix plot holes, like he does for some movies he likes. Though I doubt he'd be using historical references like the person he is arguing with. I honestly think MauLer has only a cursory knowledge of history and culture, and sometimes disdain. Remember, MauLer saw the persistence of his native language (Welsh) as pointless and said it would be better that everyone spoke one language (I think he just hated learning Welsh in school). If he actually does go into politics, I think these deficiencies and attitudes will really show.

You're probably right. When you watch hours upon hours of these people, you start to form a sort of relationship with them, and I am a former fan, so this is somewhat personal to me. But to be honest, the main reason I post so much and so readily on this thread is because I don't think I could provide anything substantial to any other thread. I feel it's better to solely focus on one thread than to split my focus to many others. Not to mention it is very hard for outsiders to get into MauLer because of the sheer amount of very long videos he has made, so my having watched nearly all of the non-Meme and non-Superchat EFAPs shouldn't go to waste.

That MoS video was awful.
Half of the time, they were complaining about the movie not explaining things that were explained while they were complaining.
They hardly brought any arguments, most of the work was done by the editor, the video would be unwatchable without him. He could probably make it on his own but he chooses to to put his effort into propping up other people.

They didn't get what the movie was going for, as seen during the "Maybe" scene.
Jonathan Kent doesn't want Clark to get hurt so he's overprotective but he's just a guy, he's not some all knowing asshole like half the characters in the MCU, he doesn't have all the answers so the "Maybe" is basically him admitting that he doesn't know what to do.
It's realistic because in the real world, an average human being wouldn't know what to do, that's what the movie was going for. That approach got fucked by Warner Bros in the other movies but that was the original idea, a Superman in the real world.
That realism is also why the bodycount is so high because Superman, as powerful as he is, realistically wouldn't be able to save everybody even if he tried his hardest.
He also was totally not prepared for an alien invasion and him just fighting and destroying the city was him reacting, he was scared for the very first time in his life and he made many mistakes, just like anybody would, with or without powers.
Their complaints about other heroes not helping were dumb too because prior to BvS, the plan for this franchise was completely different but the studio forced Snyder to change it after MoS didn't make $1 billion.
It's the same dumb argument they use for Iron Man 3, how the future movies contradict it and that somehow being the fault of Iron Man 3 and not the movies that came after it.

I'll also mention the thing about the Krypton dying out.
Snyder went for a space Roman Empire.
Rome was a powerhouse that ruled for centuries and spanned over 3 continents.
Yet, it collapsed and not because of some outside threat but by the society becoming lazy, decadent and bureaucratic.
On Krypton, that decadence is shown by the ridiculous outfits or the ruling class (which was a conscious decision if you look up the behind the scenes stuff) and the bureaucracy is mentioned by Zod and the laziness by the core mining instead of exploring more efficient possibilities.
The outposts didn't survive because there was no driving force behind them once the main planet was gone.
Also, all Zod said is that his army didn't find any outposts that were still functioning, it doesn't mean that they don't exist somewhere out there, the galaxy is too big for a small army like the one Zod had to explore.

I'm not saying that this movie is perfect because it does have holes and the 2nd act drags a bit.
However, these guys did a piss poor job at critiquing it.
Most of it just felt like they had their quota of complaints and jokes and they were ging to fill that quota no matter what.

That was longer than I thought it would be bu I felt like typing it.
That is all for now.

I can add to your commentary on Krypton dying out. In the first appearance by Superman on film in 1948(which was one of those dumb moments by the crew, calling the 1978 Richard Donner version the "original"), there are roughly ten minutes spent to showing how Jor-El couldn't convince the council that "Krypton is doomed. Even as we discuss this holocaust, our days, perhaps even our hours, are numbered." That version explicitly used Greco-Roman architecture to show exactly what you said. A civilization that can't even acknowledge the threat in front of them. Jor-El, in most versions that I know, is the most pessimistic about his civilization's survival, and even his pessimistic outlook turns out to be too optimistic, as most versions have his prediction too long. The Man of Steel version is a continuation of that. Jor-El is telling the council that the destruction may be "a matter of weeks" when the coup 'd'état actually takes place. From what the movie showed, it was likely a matter of days. And the planet, referencing the isolationist policies of 20th century nations, was unable to break its ideals to fix the overall problem.

Again, as others have said, Mauler and Co. are uneducated on history in general, and just assume that somebody who doesn't agree with them is some moron. The implosion on this crowd is going to be epic to watch.

I don't like MOS ... However, I have to agree with your assessment of what was intended in the story.

The chaos that took place in the 3rd act, I think, was indeed a reflection on that battle being "Superman's literal first day on the job." However, the movie fails at really conveying character moments that earn the destruction happening, and it totally fails at showcasing Superman's total feeling of isolation after having to kill Zod as well. The finale of MOS just comes across as headache inducing and making things go boom "just because."

The biggest problem I have with the Zack Snyder DCEU movies is this: These movies chose big, grandiose moments and themes to cover, yet there's no proper buildup to those big moments, IMO. For example, I would have loved for the DCEU to cover the Death of Superman. It was a great story back in the 90s; it's iconic, really. However, the death and return of Superman weren't earned with these movies whatsoever. And when you don't earn those moments, then the movie just becomes a jumbled, loud mess with lofty dialogue you can't help but make fun of.

Zack Snyder is a really frustrating storyteller to me. The dude has a lot of good ideas, but I don't think he knows how to convey them. Same shit happened with Sucker Punch-- a movie that I don't think deserves the full amount of hate that it gets. That movie was ambitious and I know the themes it was going for ... But it just failed to convey them in a coherent manner. That's how I feel about MOS-- it's a bad movie that had some good ideas; wasted potential.

Critical Drink does not need MauLer, in fact, he has long since eclipsed him.
I read on Twitter that the director on the Cruella film had done a film prior criticizing the 'girlboss' trend that corporations manufactured to appear feminist and they think that the Cruella film could potentially be something akin to a deconstruction like the Joker movie was. I'll give them an :optimistic: because if that actually happens it could be interesting.

But also isn't Critical Drinker the one who saw Midsommar and totally misinterpreted everything in the film even though it handed him everything as plainly as possible? The guy who saw a film where they indoctrinated a woman into a cult by driving her insane and tricking her into killing her boyfriend and he decided it was about feminism because he's been drinking a bit too much of the anti-sjw kool-aid. Even if the Cruella movie turns out to be a deconstruction I don't think he would be able to think critically about it to appreciate it because he's kind of stupid.

*Mauler ignorance of history*
Is he genuinely saying we need a full background and explanation for why the Kryptonians fell as an empire, and claiming that empires in actual world history fell as well doesn't count? This is just embarrassing, especially since in a lot of his arguments in the star wars canon, for example, revolve around the Empire in 'New Hope' not needing to be explained because it is the setup/beginning to a franchise. The origins of something don't need to be explained as long as it is internally consistent. Why doesn't this apply to Krypton, especially since MoS is the first film in a series?

I find it ironic that overanalyzing the setup could easily be used against the Lord of the Rings films (independent of the books.) They never say where Sauron came from or why he became what he is. They never even say what exactly the ring's power is outside of turning people invisible, so how would anyone use it to defeat Sauron, which was what Boromir wanted, etc. This is all explained in the books but not the movies, and are key driving points of the narrative. If MauLer never brings in the comic books when analyzing superhero films, its only fair the same could be used for his most favorite movies. For example, do they ever explain where Thanos' empire and minions came from? He killed his home planet. How? Why are so many people crazy enough to follow this psychopath? Why is Thanos so powerful in the first place, even without the stones? There are many holes in the set up of Infinity War. Anyone could do this, and anyone can think up explanations, or just say it isn't important. Whether MauLer does one or the opposite depends on whether or not he personally enjoyed the film.

From the MoS video and that twitter post it seems they're walking back a lot of that MCU love.
Also I don't know why the editor included that last segment of Fringy and Mauler laughing at random Snyder defender. I guess he thought it made them look cool 'debunking with facts and logic', but they come across as total cunts.

I hold very little love for the non-animated DCU movies but this video displays all their worst habits ("why don't you laser eye all the time, bro?" "why don't you fly your fighter plane with my great plan, bro?"). It was frustrating to watch.

It also feels like the lost the spark they used to have, as autistic and cringy as they were, you still got the sense of friends having a good time shitposting and making memes. That's mostly gone, replaced by attempts of out-bigbrain the rest of youtube and being generally unpleasant.

If Snyder fans sperg out en masse, who would end up looking better?

Next up is Suicide Squad and BvS. Those are both hilariously bad trainwrecks. I dearly hope they make their EFAP movies for those at least somewhat entertaining. The big problem would be having something interesting and original to say since almost every reviewer talked about them at one point. It will probably be laughing at the bad moments and dissecting the plot. Hopefully it will be saved in editing like last time.

His fanbase clashed with /tv/ this week in several threads. I didn't think the bar could have gone this low.

And going by MauLer's argument that Krypton's eventual decline should have been its own movie, would that mean Titan's downfall should have been a separate movie instead of Thanos telling what happened to his world?

Don't give Marvel any ideas. They're already rolling in money and Thanos is absurdly popular. They'd probably turn it into climate alarmist propaganda, too. Though, to be honest, Thanos is heavily changed from the comics in terms of his origins and motivations. I doubt they'll do a comic-faithful depiction of the Eternals anyway, considering how the Inhumans turned out. And that's not even bringing up how weird it would be if they had a physical embodiment of death that looks like a female Skeletor show up. That would be out of place even in Dr. Strange.

Finished going over the 3 hour Superman review while playing Ryza 2. It's something when they actually make me want to defend the DCEU film.
Notable moments:
* Trying to force the Spiderman 2 stinger meme. Just... no.
* Constantly going about "where is <insert DC hero> during the action scenes". Nearly every super hero film has that problem regardless it being Marvel or DC.
* The actual criticisms being the same ones said a billion times. Especially the "look how much destruction there is" that lead to today's superhero films having their final battles in a quarry.
* MauLer and his friends saying they aren't a diehard Marvel fans after sucking Marvel films for two and a half hours straight.

The Winter Soldier, which is on their approved list, is a particularly egregious example of this, and Phase 2 of the MCU in general had this problem so much that the Honest Trailer for Age of Ultron made a joke out of it.

I would like to see them put their money with their mouths are and do EFAP episodes on the MCU films that MauLer rated 4/10 or less. And not just do Black Panther and Captain Marvel since those are easy to go after due to the wokeness (plus the latter was covered by them when it came out).

Also if they are covering the other DCEU films, what will their complaints for Shazam! be since that one is the closest to the MCU levels of campiness? Some guesses could be the CGI given the low budget while ignoring the practical effects, the villain is a weak character and just the mirror opposite of Billy Batson (much like hero/villain dynamic in the MCU films), Billy's subplot of finding his mother and not even cover the character's arc, and the mid-credit scene that introduces Mister Mind (they'll probably laugh at the idea of a talking alien worm).
