Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

The average consumer? Nintendo cultists routinely buy and re-buy zelda games, whether they are in "remastered" form, or digital download, or part of a mini-nostalgia console, or just plain re-release. Too right nintendo's gone to shit, there's no effort needed when your userbase is a guaranteed bunch of suckers who will buy your stuff regardless of quality. Look at gamefreak, they put together a rushed unfinished crap game and they were rewarded with the best- (and fastest) selling title of all series. I laugh my ass off at nintendo threadss because it's full of dreamers wishing for "x game sequel" or "y game remaster", seasoned with the same woeful complaint of not having anything new to play.

It would be ironic if they've caused the industry to crash in the same vein that Atari did.
I think this is the opposite situation to the console crash.

That happened because not enough people were buying the huge amounts of un-curated games.

People consooming too much won't cause an issue unless it eventually leads to products being made which are so poor as to being un-consoomable.

I like the Switch, every franchise besides Pokémon and Yoshi has given us pretty great stuff. However, it definitely feels like a Nintendo console with these constant droughts in the release schedule. Half the library consists of ports too.
This has been every nintendo console since the tail end of the n64.

The Wii-U had like 6 months of no new games a few times.

But it did get a port of Mass Effect 3.

I'm probably going to hold the Pokemon Sword and Sheild sales against the fandom maybe possibly likely forever, I mean they could have bought Dragon Quest XI S in the same number but chose not to.

Then again there's also starting to be a few hardcore nintendo groups who think JRPGs are ruining Nintendo consoles, so that's going to be fun to watch.

It always kills me because their shit is so behind Sony and Microsoft that you can emulate everything at this point.

I should probably just figure out how the fuck Wii emulation works and play Punch Out with that but I don't care enough to look into it.

There seems to be two distinct camps when it comes to RPGs for tendies on one hand there are people who like the genre which is like your xenofags and others, which I think is from nintendo's old handheld division since the DS/3DS had a shit ton of JRPGS. And then you have the ones who only want big games like Mario and Zelda and don't like seeing lower budget/"weeb shit" which is probably because they got only the big games on GC/Wii and think that it should all be like N64 days.
Then again the same can be said for all consoles: the PS4 has people who buy for sony movie games and those who buy for games like P5 being exclusives.

and don't like seeing lower budget/"weeb shit"
Dragon Quest 11 is less weeby than Pokemon and WAAAAAAY higher production values than Sword/Shield. I know, I know, the people who think that don't know or care. Sigh.

I own a Switch, but my library compared to every other Switch owner is like I own a totally different console. People be like "Oh, you have a Switch? Blah blah blah Smash and Mario Kart!" "Uh, I don't own those. I play Astral Chain, Dragon Marked For Death, Xenoblade, and Octopath Traveler." "WTF are those?"

Its more that a lot of dedicated fans work on those Nintendo emulators
Compare say RPCS 3 to Cemu, at this point all the important games are playable/run near perfectly, where as for RPCS3 alot of games like MGS4 (last time I checked) are still struggling to get running properly. Hell don't even get me started on the difference in time between dolphin and PCSX2's quality. The only bad Nintendo console emulation is probably N64.

I finished mario 64 again now that I have the 3d all star collection, it may be just nostalgia, but to this day I still find mario 64 to have a feeling of mystery that no other mario game has ever been able to capture
Nice work!

Now start up File B and finish the game with 50 stars. It isn't super difficult and you only have to accomplish one trick which is to circumvent the endless staircase. Go for it when you feel the urge, I know you may not want to try since you just finished. But it's rewarding and very doable. And the reason I suggest to try a run with 50 stars is because any lower than that and you have to pull off a somewhat more difficult stairway trick to get around the 50 star door. But hey, if you can beat the endless staircase you are well on your way to a sub-50 star run.

Congrats again! Start pushing Mario 64 to its limits and mess around. That sense of mystery and wonder you talk about is only enhanced by running the game this way.

Well it also doesn't help that the PS3 is a nightmare of architecture and everything on the technical end is so specific, that even the smallest thing can't be reverse engineered properly without causing something else to fuck up.

I'm hoping that Nintendo goes all the way and re-releases every single Wii and WiiU game worth playing on Switch, so I can throw out that three-legged dog of a console and just let Switch be the "archival console".

They're already pretty close at this point, really.
Especially the Wii U, as I never owned one nor do I want to ever own one, just port literally fucking everything on the Wii U to the Switch, says me.

Other than the market specifically for gaming consoles, I don't think they take up a huge share of the gaming market in this day and age, outside of their key franchises (e.x. Mario, Link, Pokemon, etc).

If anything, I'd expect them to eventually bite the bullet and release a "Steam/Origin"-like app for PC. Though I can imagine that the console market may stay around for casual gamers who can't be bothered with things like system specs or upgrading a PC.

I wish Nintendo actually would do that, I predict everyone including Sony is going to one day have a PC app, you may have to pay some premium price, but the PC is going to be a shared central hub for all of video games.

Because it cuts out the issue of the used games market and it gives games longer shelf lives if they're on a digital market and on something like PC than tied to past consoles, it's easier for someone to buy a game from ten years ago if it's on something like Steam than it is to buy a physical copy.

As time goes on there's going to be more money to be made and less and less real reason not to do it.

Nope this does not work in practice. You have rights expire routinely or publishers change and shit is perma-removed from the digital store. Scott Pilgrim just recently returned after nearly a decade absent from any storefront. Turtles in Time still doesn't have it's digital copy back up, Simpsons Arcade is the same deal as is Aliens vs Predator Arcade. Hell look what happened with Duke Nukem, gearbox bought it and removed the anthology and put up an inferior version for twice the price.

Physical copies go on sale more often than their digital equivalents too.

Uh, did you not catch the fact that 3D All-Stars uses a version of Mario 64 that patches out the backwards long jump? Pretty sure you’d have to do the parallel universe shit to bypass star doors and the endless stairs.

Whoa really? The All Star version just keeps getting worse and worse. Why would they do this?

Hey @Becomemysoulreaver next time you come over you can borrow my N64 and Mario.
