Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Since the topic was brought up, I thought I'd throw in some data on CG deliveries. Here's a pie chart showing books I've backed that were scheduled for delivery some time in 2020 and how close they were to their target date.
2020 Deliveries.png

As you can see, out of a total of 96 books I expected to receive in 2020, a whopping 35 remain undelivered. Now, it's important to keep in mind that several of those books were scheduled for later months in the year, so they may only end up being a few months late if they are delivered soon. However, the estimated delivery dates of many of these books are spread out through the entire year, going all the way back to January. So some books are now a year late and many more are rapidly approaching that esteemed category. I have a lot of forgiveness for first-time self-publishers and I understand it's a large undertaking to figure out production, printing, and shipping, then trying to get it all done by some arbitrary date that you probably chose without realizing the effort it would take to hit that target. There's also the omnipresent issue of COVID-19 which threw off nearly everyone's timeline by at least a little bit (and huge props to the creators who were able to deliver on time in spite of it). However, when books start pushing a year or more, I begin to lose faith. Hell, we've even got books that are pushing TWO years late with Red Rooster and Sovereign, though I didn't include those in this chart.

All in all, I definitely think CG has a timeliness issue. I'd like to say that creators get better with this as they become more experienced, but I don't have the data to back that up (i.e. I haven't bothered to look into it closely) but it doesn't seem that way. I also see creators trying to rewrite history and say they were on time when they were absolutely not. However, there are some creators who hit the mark on pretty much every book, which is always nice to see. Ultimately, I don't take the estimated delivery date too seriously. If creators are truthful with their backers and post updates about how things are going and why they're delayed WITHOUT trying to make excuses, then I'm probably going to cut them some slack.

EDIT: When I say that CG has a timeliness issue, but also that I don't take the delivery date too seriously, I mean that I don't expect a strict adherence to that delivery date and can forgive a couple of months' extra wait time. I can easily overlook 1-2 months, but there's only so far you can push it before I start thinking you're just not putting in the proper work on your project. Edited because I felt that came off as a bit contradictory.

I don't get the hate
I was trying to verbalize why I hate it and, instead of coming up with a intelligent response all I can say is that I hate it.....I hate it I hate it I hate it....cockapoopoo

In fairness- my favorite series of all time has a "Yuck concept" (a preacher, a hitwoman, and a vampire try to find god) but it was written amazingly so maybe RRN will be great....however, maybe it's not about me and it's just (like EVS say) a fun effort for zack

According to the CG Tracker, the recent Lady Death campaign is more than 90% of the way to overtaking CG’s entire 2021 haul up to now, $302,143 vs. $327,766.

I’m going to find it incredibly amusing if CG’s overall final total for this year ends up being less than the combined hauls of, say, Lim and Pulido.
You know CYBERFROG 3 and the action figures are launching this year, right?

Are you counting the figures now? I thought you didn’t want to do that because it puts you in Spawn territory.

Either way, I fully expect Cyberfrog 3 to make $800-900K. It’ll no doubt be successful. However, considering your general speed per book and the fact you don’t have another Warts and All-type collection to publish, combined with Zack’s already-announced slate for the year not containing either Jawbreakers or Expendables... I don’t particularly see there being any big shock that gets CG to nearly the highs of last year, especially with the slew of underfunded projects that we’ve been seeing more recently.

No, these current toys are PVC mini statues.

I have actual posable action figures lined up.

I think we'll surprise you.

He wanted to be the war hero he envisioned himself and he got that itch to prove himself in combat (which was few and far between). He also had this insane belief that he wouldn't be killed in combat because he was the main character of his own story (again, in retrospect he thought this was juvenile).
Despite this, he was willing to look out for those in his squad and get them some creature comforts (such as smuggling Pepsi cans from an Iraqi amusement park to them).
You're telling me this same guy is afraid to interact with CG backers?
There's actually a big difference between being full of bravado when it comes to something that can literally get you killed and the courage it takes to get up in front of people and possibly make a fool of yourself. If you die, you know that you don't have to face the voices of discontent, whether they are in your head or external.

Military service changes people. In the Army and Marines (and obviously "special" forces like SEALs and PJs) the NCOs tend to be a bit more rough-and-tumble and in-your-face, especially from combat arms. I know 0311s who get out and change from constantly yelling and asserting dominance in every facet of their lives to being a lot more laid-back. I think a lot of it comes from the fact they've been mixed up in the shit and they don't feel the need to prove themselves to anyone anymore, least of all a bunch of fat fucktards who need fucking warning labels slapped on bottles of Gorilla Glue to NOT use it in your hair. Also many of them just get tired of the stress involved with having to be that form of assertive so often. Never saw combat but I had to yell, even as a desk jockey and it sucked. It takes a lot out of you. I was going gray at 27 from the constant fucking stress, and once you're out you feel the weight get off your shoulders but by then the mentality and stress has already taken its toll. That's why I don't yell, and why most veterans who have had to do so choose not to. What's the point, especially online?

That being said people seem to take that kindness for weakness and like pushing buttons, and then they go all shocked Pikachu when the motherfucker hits back, and he doesn't hit back at the same level you hit him he'll hit several times harder so you think twice the next time you want to fuck with him.

From DC, a reminder that the people who are ostensibly in the "entertainment" business hate you if you voted differently. It started with this Instagram post from Phil Jimenez, a faggot with a creepy af profile pic:

The bit about "Trump voters" triggered the usual twitter SJW's; no reason DC should want any of those 75 million potential customers, right?
Screenshot_2021-02-24-00-06-58-1.png
Jimenez kinda backpedaled, but didn't clarify:

Jimenez never explains what he meant. A quick perusal of his twitter makes it clear he's all about keeping leftists riled up, so mission accomplished, Phildo. Now head back to the bathhouse, creep

Honestly, Comicsgate is in a pretty miserable state if your stuff is like >90% of revenue.

I could honestly see a future where Lim's stuff would surpass the combined total of everything in CG, sans your own work. It's that good, and that successful. So much stuff in CG has been dogshit.

That's sorta my point.

Maybe not as snarky though. Again, I don't have a strong opinion about him either way.

My point is that if Lim can beat out everybody in CG that isn't Ethan, is it not ridiculous to say CG still trumps Lim only because and when Ethan's numbers are factored in?

To me, that's not really a successful "movement." That's a successful individual. That's one person standing-out amongst a sea of mediocrity.
