Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

I feel that the amount of millennials spending all of their savings on consooming is overly exaggerated by baby boomers, that don't want to accept the fact that they had it easier.

True, I think there is a little confirmation bias from having the Farms/ the Chans as my main view into Millenial social media. I do think the amount of people who burn through their salaries and treat it like funny money is a noticeable minority though, exaggeration or no. Fiscal education is something that is largely lacking here in the US despite the generation gaps, it's surprising how many Boomers I read about that have nothing saved for retirement in their mid to late 60s for example.

I don't fault him for liking Funko Pops. To each their own and whatnot. I can't stand those things, but good for this guy. What gets me is that he wasted $14K on those things. He didn't even keep most of them.

Shit. If I had money like that I'd buy a new-used car! Yet he's throwing it away on Funko Pops...

14k USD could buy you a grand tour of Europe: I'm talking about hitting a lot of the big cities and visiting all the tourist hotspots and so on. Burning it all on plastic seems like a huge waste and I can't even see how someone could do that without some sort of mental disorder.

This thread would not be complete without a mention of Chris Chan, who buys dlc for games he does not even own.
Or hell the man who made the consoomer meme, Movieblob who practically will white knight corporations to fight against other corporations such as his blatant dickriding of Nintendo and Disney.

I don't understand why people play newer videogames in some genres. So few of em are worth the price of admission.

FPS Genre: CS, TF2, COD/BF. Every new thing is either a clone of those or Battle Royale.

Loot'n Shoot: Past Borderlands 1, everything else is just far too samey.

RTS: Brood Wars, CnC, Red Alert, AOE. Nothing new any good.

MMO: Ultima Online, Eve Online, Everquest 1, Guild Wars 1, Ragnarok Online, Lineage 2, Final Fantasy 11. Nothing new any good, only old games are good.

2D Fighting games: Street Fighter 2/Z2/Z3/3s, newer ones shit. KOF98/02, all newer ones shit. GGACP+R, newer ones are shit. Mortal Kombat has always been shit and always will be.

ARPG: You've got good old Diablo 2 and Path of Exile, everything else is underwhelming.

Don't forget the pretending to care about queer people every single June.

This has been archived here before, but it really should be archived in this thread too so here.

I suspect that these things are going to end up like beanie babies after the 90s. A bunch of tards wasted a ton of money trying to collect them only to realize later that they were completely worthless.

This reminds me of some people I know that really loves buying small model car toys like Hot wheels. Some of them even willing to pay for more than $100 just to be the first that owns it. Too bad for them, these product are usually mass produced and by the time they get their goods people can buy them for cheap ($15 to $25) elsewhere.

Some of my friends even able to profit off of this by refurbishing old rare models that were broken to a more desirable state. Good for 'em, I guess.

yeah, i think that behavior is basically OCD of a really nasty kind, some kind of mix of the "thrill and satisfaction of a successful hunt" of going to the store and very especially buying a luxury trinket, and a nervous compulsion that he's using to distract himself from other things eating his mind.

i bet the other run of the mill redditube consoomers are pretty much the same way. or just filling a void.

> gay corporate doge

this one's suggesting to me, that the rainbow hair specrumqueer demi ace whatever mania (it's like pokemania or my little pony mania and star wars mania...) is every bit as manufactured, and like. one's the bait, and one's the mind-controlling parasite...

analogy needs work.

but like the sinister puppetmasters put out corporations, sell to dummies that lgbteverything is cool and desirable, but a forbidden fruit... and then tease and tease legalization, while manufacturing an undercurrent that this is "revolutionary" and "significantly changes the world to suit your interests, and you only want what we tell you to want"

and then finally they drop the bait (legal gay marriage), and then the corporations get their rainbow banners out.

In my opinion I don't know if I would consider that "consoomer" like behavior. I think the difference between relatively normal people with expensive hobbies, which I'll label "enthusiasts", and the consoomers that are mentioned is this thread is outlook. Enthusiasts usually have other things going on in their lives, whether it be other hobbies, relationships, work, or other interests that keep them well rounded. A consoomer on the other hand makes their consumerism the key aspect of their personality, whether it be religiously following the brand and buying all their products day one or defending the IP on the social medias every day ad nauseum. The personality of the consoomer is focused purely on the brand, they exist only to buy product and get excited to buy more product.

A related topic to consoooming is when Millenials spend thousands of dollars a year on Funkos/Starbucks/iPhone iterations/regular trips to Disneyland/etc. and then bitch on how they have nothing in their savings and blame capitalism. Fiscal responsibility and planning is important yo, if you want to win in capitalism you need to leverage your capital not waste it on little plastic nothings that will end up in the ocean and choke a turtle in five years.
To be fair it does help to be in a culture that doesn't encourages absurd debt as if its par for the course.
But yes please stop buying dumb shit you don't have the money for, that includes burning $100+ every weekend to destroy your brain and waste your weekend.

Protip: wait a 5-10 years before buying a given video game, if it still appeals to you it's probably actually worth the price and time

It came to me just now, there was a sub called r/consumeproduct that got banned a year or two ago because it devolved into an absolute mess of people a-logging consoomers.
It got banned because AHS can't stand differing opinions.
The. win revival is honestly shit, filled with tryhards and wannabe /pol/tards without any nuance.
Shame, because it was a legitimately good sub.

No it got banned because they knew that 13 = 52 and this combined with the fact they were growing so fast caught the attention of trannyjannies

They knew about the relation between hoodrat culture and consumerism.

this is a great thread. Consoomers are insane, aggressive, with very little opposition to the point you'll find that each one seems to act like they're some sort of king. The products they consume with gluttony turn them into unlikable fucking monsters. It's one thing to be enthused about something of course, but these people seem to mentally de-evolve right where corporations want them to.

One of the biggest consoomers, and possibly the most vile, in my opinion has to be Pokemon fans. If you even so slightly critique any game/episode/movie/character, they somehow think it's a legitimate attack on their health. They absolutely cannot fathom that someone would dislike anything involving Pokemon. It's almost like they think Nintendo/Gamefreak is a real person, so fragile and helpless that they need to protect at all costs. They'll even attempt to cancel each other as well if an opinion isn't shared. Pronouns-In-Bios will come in droves if you mention that you dislike 1 gimmick in any game.

I would say Nintendo consoomers as a whole are unlikable faggots, but the Pokemon fans are an entirely different breed.

edit; I also forgot to add, Pokemon consoomers have absolutely 0 problem spending their (or their gubment bux/parentbux) hard earned money on ANYTHING that will get them access to more Pokemon. To the point they will openly mock people for being "poor" or unwilling to submit to the Nintendo overlord.

On that note, I do wonder why it is that Nintendo fans specifically account for such a large number of consoomers these days. Their products have been around for a long time now, but the hyper autistic fans of theirs seem like a more recent thing.
Many nintendies'obsession with the brand has little to do with the games and characters themselves and more about attempting revive their childhood through escapism, look at MovieBob for example.

Pokemon always had some pretty bad consoomers, but it honestly seemed like pokemon go flipped it into overdrive imo.

Star Wars is another one that I think falls into this category.

Modern black culture has created the perfect consoomer, just look at all the brands rap music namedrops on a regular basis like Hennessey and Air Jordans and notice the obsession that community has. The ones who don't just outright steal that shit (kinda hard when that shit is loaded with anti-theft detectors, locked up in cases, and the Korean at the liquor store is armed) will run up insane credit card debt so they can buy it. Some guy who lives in squalor and is on welfare since he shows up like twice a week at his 40 hour job will be wearing brand new shoes.

It isn't even a conspiracy that people tried to make black culture based on consumerism when tobacco companies have admitted to putting product placement of Newports and Kools in movies popular among blacks. You just know there's some shady people in the music industry encouraging rappers to rap about their favorite brands to go trick the rubes into thinking that it's "their culture" to spend every penny they have and don't have on expensive shoes and shit and no doubt they love it when they get to convince the same people into blamey whitey when their Mercedes gets repo'ed because the banks want their credit cards paid and won't accept EBT.
