This thread should really be called DECADE OF REALIGNMENT. We know that Biden himself has very little to do with the executive's day-to-day functioning. Currently the executive is being run by permagov - staffers, operatives, consultants, federal employees of all (rainbow) stripes, and their private sector toadies, with input also coming from legislative branch swamp creatures. We're back to the politics of Obama's 2nd term, which was (until now) the most egregious case of "president as figurehead" fantasy government.
What's different from the 2010's is that people are way more fed up with gov'mt and even angrier in general, and the "red team" has already made a big and effective short-term play for populist realignment (you can argue about Trump's success but the old paradigm has still shifted permanently). Whether the left is consciously aware of it or not, they saw righties get Trump and now they want their own Trump(s). This dynamic sort of existed with Bernie but he was NOT the right jew for that job - along with being a career politician who spent decades being "against" the establishment without changing anything, he was too extreme ideologically, whereas Trump was basically a moderate. Also Bernie lost, so Trump became the first 21st century realignment candidate.
I find it telling that all these twitter lefties and other loud voices are bitching about Bidden so much and so quickly. It's obvious they're sick of useless permagov too, even if their ideas for what policies should change can be horrifying. I don't think there are very many people left who actually WANT continuation of America's late 20th/early 21st century globohomo politics (outside of super low info boomers in their TV ghettos, and even then they're restless).
Possibly the next big move will be a mirror Trump, a populist moderate leaning towards prog policies instead of conservativismic ones. Or shit could keep falling apart and bring us closer to balkanization. I really don't know exactly, but what I do know is that there's gonna be some crazzy times ahead.
Obviously I get that this is basically a BIDEN L's thread (hilariously it really looks like everything about Biden is gonna be L's right up to him L'ing right into a coffin). I just can't help tying the dynamics of this presidency and it's (ostensible) supporters to the concept of US political realignment.
