Jokes aside, Israel is one of the most advanced nations in the Middle East. That is to say, they are economically, technologically, and (more or less) as socially developed as the U.S. and Western Europe. The fact that they are also a parliamentary republic is also more enticing to western political sensibilities than other nations that are advanced in the region such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia. In that case, they are an ideal ally to the U.S. on paper, but the history of Israel using American funds and resources to pursue their own interests has aroused suspicions and outright hostility towards both nations in the past several decades. That's the way I see it so far, at least. U.S. History is my passion and field of study, but I've only just started studying the Cold War in January. Maybe somebody more well-versed can answer you better.

P.S. This is my congressman (Matt Gaetz) at CPAC and his speech was actually pretty good. More of an AFPAC speech than AFPAC's without any damage to muh optics.
