Careercow Brandon "Bam" Margera - From Jackass to Lolcow

Bam’s hanging out with pro skater Terry Kennedy, who you might remember from Bam's show as Compton Ass Terry. Bam actually seems to be actually doing well and is even uploading new skate clips to his Instagram but in true Bam fashion he has to fuck it up by posting a video of Terry smoking a black and mild while Bam smokes an e-cigarette with his son in the back seat while Bam cringe-raps along to some song on the radio. His wife looks like she doesn’t want to be there at all. In other good news Bam posted a short clip to the movie he’s working on and it doesn’t look terrible even if makes him look full of himself.

So I did some highlight surfing and didn’t find anything about this so thought it would mention it.

not 100% about Bam directly but he has a very weird orbiter/ “promoter” called Vincent Beedle aka “Scumbag Vinny

Vinny is a young, dogshit tier grifter in the Connecticut comedy circuit who’s only two claims to fame is one he was on an episode of cum town which was legendarily cringe which made him take on the persona of “scumbag Vinny” and also decided to make his own podcast called “scum town”.
His second claim to fame is he knows Bam.
He’s known as a grifter because what he likes to do is go to comedy clubs and promises to sell them out in return for higher cut and saying he can get Bam Marghera to headline. In reality he can only get like 30 people to signup and piss off venues. (and Bam flakes nonstop or won’t show to venues that ent packed)

Pat Oates (another comic) called him out for this on his podcast and WATP also had a segment about this (this is I why I know about this). Vinny has a fully blown meltdown and made a few episodes called “Pat Oates is Gay” where he just reeeeees at pat for goofing on him.

the WATP segment that really goes into detail about, can’t find the ep number and honestly I don’t care that much. The only other thing to note is that if you type in Bam Margera and scum town you will see that Vinny nonstop puts him in the description and it always giving “updates“ on Bams situation or him doing impressions of people From the viva la Bam days.
I think there was a time when Bam was completely off social media so scum town became a sort of hub for updates about Bam (even though Vinny would just speculate with the rest of them)
Holy shit my dude, I forgot all about the scum bag vinny saga with the cumtown boys. I also had no idea that he tethered himself to Bam on top of everything else.

I know what I'm going to re-listen to monday morning at work.

Huh, since I had not paid any attention to Bam until his recent meltdown I missed this last month:

Looks like Bam was trying to sneak down to San Diego to reup his drug stash and some fine gentlemen relieved him of his Bentley while he was "charing his phone' at a gas station on his way to his shaman's house.

I guess not drunk crying, having hysterical meltdowns or begging for dollars equals “doing well” for Bam. It’s obvious someone took the reigns of his IG to try and clean up the damage he did. I can’t even tell if what he posts is recent or three months ago, but it’s obvious the point is to churn out lots of boring hanging with bros, skate stuff and cute kid photos for IG. Make Bam look not insane and strung out on IG for awhile so people move on to the next train wreck.

Paramount didn’t want this cow milked no mo till Jackass wraps. I’d even guess Paramount invested some money to help make sure he doesn’t OD between now and the release to ruin their investment.

He was like, what? 19? when he made a licensing agreement with Landspeed for the first CKY video, which was what put him on Tremaine and Knoxville's radar. The success of the video helped push the CKY band, and their own merits brought them their own success. Bam pissed the earnings away from the first video partying with his friends, and was smart enough to film it for the next video.
Bam claimed in an interview that Tod Swank, the owner of the distribution company Tum Yeto that created and managed now-legendary companies such as Toy Machine, Zero Skateboards, Foundation Skateboards, Pig Wheels, and other lesser-known companies in addition to distributing and supporting Alien Workshop after Rob Dyrdek bought the company and ran it into the ground.

Interestingly enough, one of the only failures at Tum Yeto was Landspeed Wheels, which Bam was a rider for when he created the first CKY video and pitched it to Tod Swank as a possible team video. Since the leg work of actually creating a skate video had been already completed by Bam and friends Tod agreed to manufacture and distribute the video and Bam signed a contract that stipulated Tod would make his money back before Bam saw a dime.

Is that a shitty deal? It’s ruthless for sure but I personally don’t think so, but some of you here will probably disagree. Regardless, I doubt pre-MTV Bam has the foresight to have a lawyer look over the contract before he signed so that’s on him. According to Bam in an old interview for Big Brother Skateboarding:
BB: So after Toy Machine where did you go, over to Element?
BM: Well, I didn't really want to leave Toy Machine, but Tod Swank was ripping me off for the CKY video, So I was just like 'Ed, what am I supposed to do? I wanna be involved with Toy Machine, but I don't wanna be involved with Tum Yeto" and Ed didn't do anything about it, so I'm like, All right, I'm gone then, see ya. Then Maldonado left, and then Kerry left, and it's just like fuck Tod Swank you know. Now I'm on Element. It was the best move I ever made because what I was making over there at Tum Yeto was a complete joke

According to Toy Machine founder/pro skater/now a famous artist in the art world Ed Templeton:

(During a discussion regarding many of his riders who went on become great pros had quit his team early in their careers in circumstances that had nothing to do with him)
Even when the whole team quit? I can’t imagine you not taking that personally.
But it was never “Ed’s a dick” or “Toy Machine sucks”.
The whole Kerry/Bam/Mike thing was largely over Bam’s feud with Swank and the CKY videos. Bam and Tod essentially had a bad side deal over the distribution of that video. I feel like Bam had a warped sense of how successful those videos were at the time… that if Fairman’s sold 5 copies, every shop around the country must’ve sold 5 copies and therefore, he should be rich. Never mind that Fairman’s was Bam’s local shop. So there was a discrepancy over money and Swank tends to get combatant whenever he feels attacked, which is no good.
So as things escalated, Swank told everyone at Tum Yeto to cut off Bam’s packages, which ended up pissing off Maldonado. Mike actually called Tum Yeto pretending to be Bam, asking for a package. And whenever they said no, Mike quit in solidarity with Bam.
…Mike actually told me later that he regretted the decision. But again, that had nothing to do with me. I even remember talking to those guys.
“What? Don’t quit! Over Tod!?! I’ll figure this out!”
But those guys leave and Kerry just happens to get an offer from Habitat at that same time.

According to Mike Maldonado:
Did you get the sense that the team was about to implode like it did or was it more of a momentum thing? Like one person leaves then another and so on?
Well, Kerry left first for Habitat. I don’t know how the hell he got that offer but that was a big blow. It definitely felt like he had broken the whole crew up and we were pretty fucked up over that one. That’s when things really started to spiral out. You could tell that certain people were already on their way and it started to feel like it was going downhill. The reason I left was a little different though.
Bam and Tod Swank had been having some serious problems over the ownership of the CKY video. I was siding more with Bam in the thing because he was my homie and that ended up being kind of a bad thing for me. I basically quit because I thought he was getting fucked over but I didn’t know that he already had a plan in the works for what he was doing next. Bam was already quitting but had thought it through a little more. I didn’t know this. I didn’t have a plan when I quit, I was just trying to stand up for him. It was stupid and I kinda ended up shooting myself in the foot for doing so.
Baker Skateboards was in the near future and was definitely something to contemplate but that wasn’t for a little while yet. They were still getting everything together at that point. Baker didn’t happen for another six months after I had quit.
So you had no plan at all when you left? I know you were unsponsored there for a minute but I always presumed you and Bam had something in the mix that must’ve fallen through.
Not at all. It was an instant decision I made while caught up in the moment.
What had happened was that things had gotten so bad between Bam and Tod that Bam wasn’t even allowed to call Tum Yeto anymore. He’d been calling so much about contracts or whatever that they had actually banned him from calling. He had to go through Ed directly to even get boards.
So Bam calls me up to bitch about everything and I can’t even believe it. Fuck that, I’ll see about this myself. I end up calling them pretending to be Bam and I hear it firsthand, “No, we’re not allowed to talk to you.”
“Fuck that. You tell those motherfuckers that you just lost one. I’m not Bam, this is Mike Maldonado and I was calling to see what was up with all this. Y’all fucked up. I quit.”
Like I said, I was just caught up in the moment… and right after that, I came to the realization of what the fuck am I doing? I just wasn’t thinking, man. Young and stubborn. Ed was like my big brother. I should’ve just listened to him and stayed where I was. None of the teams I rode for ever felt the same after that. They were cool but Toy Machine was a family.
I kept thinking how Bam was my homie… where’s my homie now? Where’s all the people I was fighting for? Nobody’s out there fighting for me. That’s life, I guess. That’s what you gotta learn when you grow up, if you grow up.
How come you never did the CKY thing?
It just wasn’t me. When it started, I was always down for helping Bam out if there was something he wanted to do. I thought it was funny at the time, too. But once it got big, that shit just got too drawn out. For a while, they were even giving me shit for going out filming skating instead of filming their stuff. That shit wasn’t my scene.
There were times when I’d be at Bam’s while they were filming for Viva La Bam and I’d have to tell’ em to get those cameras out of my face, that I wasn’t going to be doing that kinda shit for them. Don’t film me. I’m not signing some fucking form. I don’t give a fuck about being on TV.
After Bam made the claims in his interview I distinctly remember they gave Tod an interview a month or two later out of fairness so he could respond to Bam’s claims. I tried really hard to find it online but no luck.

The basic gist was that Bam is retarded and didn’t understand business or the contract he signed and he wasn’t going to see any of the money until he made back his money and to make matters worse when Bam quit Toy Machine and took legal action Tod took the video out of production and locked it away until the courts settled it which was retarded because when CKY2K dropped people scrambled for more Bam content and were disappointed to find the first video out of production entirely when it would have been an easy opportunity for Bam and Tod to sell a million copies. By the time the dust settled in the courtroom nobody gave a shit about it any more because the internet provided the video for free by then.

Did Bam leave his car running or the keys in there while in the store? What a dumbass!

I’d bet he was trying buy drugs from some fine gentlemen who relieved him of his automobile instead..or got lost on the way to his connections house.

He said he went to the gas station to charge his phone, because obviously a Bentley wouldn’t have a fancy amenity like a charge port.

Why is that these guys, if they manage to sober up and buy a house, always have homes that look like they were decorated by a New Jersey housewife plus a few items drunken flea-market shopping spree? Do they just walk into a Ashley Home furniture store, point to a pricey floor model set up and say “I’ll take it” and then just add some edgy Knick-knacks and art they have to complete the look?

It’s always half 90’s rich housewife furniture plus a few strange edgy items mixed together for a really tacky, ugly house of fail.

Someone earlier in the thread made a good point about Bam. While he definitely had charisma and a good look for MTV, his job in the CKY crew was always behind the camera and in the editing room. Dude had the idea to film his friends falling out of shopping carts, and he had access to cameras and other equipment well before laptops and smartphones were common. He was like, what? 19? when he made a licensing agreement with Landspeed for the first CKY video, which was what put him on Tremaine and Knoxville's radar. The success of the video helped push the CKY band, and their own merits brought them their own success. If he could clean himself up he could still leverage his career and recent downfall into an upswing as an off-beat weirdo filmmaker. He's not getting an Oscar, but I could see the Criterion Collection putting out a posthumous box set of his early works.
I could see this if he actually kept up on those skills over the years. But I imagine he hasn't done any kind of technical work since the CKY days. Once Jackass took off there wasn't really any reason for him to do so. I would love to see him sit down in front of a modern editing program and struggle to figure out how to use it.

He also made that compilation with HIM footage or whatever, for his one true love Ville. That's all AFAIK

bam always reminds me of this music video he starred in

Fuck man, Jimmy Pop is disgusting but boy do I love him. Straight up junior high dance nostalgia, screaming the lyrics with all the other dorks thinking we were so edgy, pissing off the teachers. I completely forgot Bam was in the banana.

Jimmy Pop and Evil Jared basically built their career on being homoerotic, right? These Pennsylvania boys really run in packs eh?

That's not the trailer for his new movie.
It's actually from 2015 for a completely different movie. He's literally filming the same video in the IGTV thing he posted, so i'm not sure what one he's actually promoting here.

I'm gonna skip the "first time posting" spiel, but youtube-dl isn't working for me otherwise I'd archive, :(

Welcome to Kiwifarms. Have fun and stay safe.

A few years or so ago I remember reading that Bam was working on a documentary on Dunn, it required Bam going through hours and hours and hours of raw footage from everything from the early CKY days all the way through Jackass and Viva La Bam eras right up to his death.

The amount of raw footage was insane given that prior to Dunn’s death Bam carried a camera with him everywhere he went, and after months of holing himself up in Gothboi Manor - presumably with editing software, a bag of speed, and a pallet of cheap Vodka - he was only able to whittle the footage down to something insane like 20-30 hours of material.

This task he had undertaken became an unhealthy obsession and allegedly he spent months sitting at a desk with his editing equipment chain smoking and drinking, trying to make this perfect tribute to his best friend and as we all know he ultimately failed.

I’m sure I got some of the details wrong here but the basic story is probably close and I think this is what broke his brain completely.

Truly they do!
