Pepe was a forced meme by the Trump/Bannon guys. To signify a break from MILO/Bannon buttsex, some randos drew their own. This is how Apu Apustaja (Help Helper in Finnish) emerged as he got added to a Finnish image board.

Separate from this, That_Groyper (who was terminated from Twitter today) drew a toad he called "Groyper." This had nothing to do with Fedentes, who ultimately co-oped the cartoon. (Note: Fedentes originally used Marv, the degenerate frog character, for a while before his handlers he rebranded as a Groyper.) At some point, Finnish 8chan also gave us Spurdo and Gondola.

"Clown Pepe" is really named Honk Honkler (inspired by Heil Hitler) who is a frog who goes gonzo in late stage post-modernism. He came on scene around the time Desmond is Amazing (the apparently abused child dancing in fag bars at 3AM across the country) was being promoted and when Trump unveiled literal Globohomo plans to force GRIDS on everyone country.
