People who have very traumatic childhoods can have a strange relationship with childhood. Yes, there sometimes is a stage of regression, like adults who continue to watch movies from their childhoods, or keep stuffed animals in their bed long after that's over for most people. But emotional avoidance is one of the largest parts of PTSD, and most people who were traumatized as children go out of their way to not re-experience trauma. If it re-appears, it is certainly not desirable. There are a small amount of people, notably women who claim to be abused as children who conflate their sexual trauma with desirability. This may mean seeking out older men as partners, or believing that all they have to offer is their youth and sex in relationships. You see a lot of that kind of promiscuous behavior in foster kids and others who grew up very tightly enmeshed in overt incest situations.

But none of that is the ABDL thing. This is a very specific type of paraphilia, notably generally a "male" one, where the person becomes obsessed with the object of desire (the diaper, for instance), often discussing the texture of the diapers, the sounds they make (the crinkle), the sensory experience as they piss/shit themselves in it. The adult baby thing is something else entirely, though there is a lot of overlap between the two groups. This is a group of people aroused by a severe amount of humiliation and masochism. It evolved out of the sissy fetish, where often heterosexual men seek forced feminization and humiliation. There can be some nuturing behaviour, where people with this fetish seek out Mommies/Daddies/caretakers to perpetuate the fantasy.

The trans myth of the stolen childhood is a fantastical component. What they claim is that there was some sort of idealized childhood (even if they had a happy, loving, supportive childhood), involving girly sleepovers, and rituals of femininity coded towards children and teens. Of course, plenty of children did not experience this, and move on from this supposed bottomless well of "trauma". The refusal to do so and indeed the real persistence, shows that is an extension of the fantasy. Grown adults who had unhappy childhoods learn, even if slowly, to parent themselves and be the adults that they needed, not abdicate themselves to some Paul "Stefonknee" Wolscht - Terrifying Toddler Fetishist horrorshow.

Even if there was some sort of stage for victims where childhood and sex met (dubious and highly unlikely), one might imagine it would be very transitional and whatever erotic confusion would eventually yield to some kind of horror about ever having the association. The thrill of replaying one's trauma over and over would not be therapeutic in the slightest.
