Disaster SUV stuffed with 27 Mexicans crashes in southern California, 15 dead

HOLTVILLE, Calif. - Officials said at least 15 people were killed and several others were injured when a Ford Expedition with 27 passengers collided with a semi-truck carrying gravel in Imperial County on Tuesday morning.

The mass casualty crash was reported just before 8 a.m. in the city of Holtville on Highway 115 located 125 miles east of San Diego, according to Battalion Chief Juan Rodelo with the City of Imperial Fire Department.

First responders pronounced 14 people dead at the scene and a 15th person died on the way to the hospital.

Authorities confirmed just before 9 a.m. four patients were rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs and that three of them were admitted into the intensive care unit. The condition of the fourth patient who was sent to the Palm Springs hospital is currently unknown.

Seven patients were taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center and two were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley. One of the patients taken to El Centro has died, officials said.

FOX 11 has a crew on the way.

27 people in a Ford Explorer, doesn't even seem possible. They must have been stacked on top of each other like wood. What a shame. Such a rotten way to die.

It looks to me from the skid marks they turned into the semi. I think I see a t-junction. Probably couldn't see, or thought they could beat it, but with 2 tons+ of humans inside of an older, probably worn out SUV it wasn't going anywhere quickly.
I feel bad for the truck driver, having one dead motorist on your conscious even if you did nothing wrong (or did, I don't know who is at-fault here) would be bad enough..... but 15? Wow....

I'm actually surprised at the condition of the Expedition, I was expecting a whole lot worse when "semi" entered the conversation.

Worst wreck I ever saw in my years driving tow truck was when a guy in a Buick Park Ave pulled a rolling stop and ran out in front of a tri-axle full of coal. Truck tried to swerve around him, but only ended up tipping side-over bed-first on TOP of him.

Car was seven inches tall at the low point, maybe a foot at most back near the trunk. When it got to the junkyard, the crusher wasn't needed.

3 DOA on scene, 2 adults and a kid. The stop sign he ignored was the one leaving school....

Driver effectively wiped his whole family by not paying attention or being too impatient to wait 15 seconds.

Do not fuck with trucks

Do not fuck with trains

You do and it WILL be a closed-casket funeral.

(Note the semi suffered a busted headlight and bent bumper..... at most)

My husband drives rock/gravel trucks now, and the stories he tells me about people pulling out in front of him curl my toes. Something that weighs over 80,000 pounds going 60 mph cannot stop on a damn dime, people.

I really feel bad for the semi driver. "HOW MANY WERE IN THAT SUV THAT MADE ME T-BONE THEM!?"

I am tired of Mexicans appropriating White culture.

Did one of them bother to learn about the cultural and sociological aspect of stuffing before they tried and failed?

IDK why but the priest in the background and the look on his face is really fucking with me when it comes to looking at a bunch of boys stuffed all nuts to butts in a phone boo.....nevermind, I remember now.

U.S.A. effectively have no driver education for new drivers or mandatory requirement of it for driver's license. Any real decent or better driver ed requires shelling out the greenbacks and barely any American wants to do that.

Something tells me the driver was trying to stop, and semi trucks have powerful brakes...but not that powerful.

And you probably don't have to be going very fast to hit a car that is functionally not moving to induce life threatening injuries in people that are literally packed in like sardines, when you have semi-truck levels of mass doing the hitting.

The Expedition ran a stop sign. The semi was going pretty quickly.
