General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

it's a lot more difficult due to logistics more so than capital.

Calli is in Japan, Kiara in Austria, Ina in Canada, and Ame and Gura in the US. EN is spread out across 3 continents and 4 countries. The logistics of a 3d recording studio are infinitely more complicated than it is in JP where it's just "Get on train to tokyo and go to the studio" as a day trip.
Calli right now is in a wet and dry area, she doesn't have to stay in Japan and juggling multiple jobs for the working Visa, or she can just up and go home to (some rrat said that her hometown was somewhere on the west coast). If EN Gen 2 and Vsingers mostly based in NA and Calli decided to go home instead of staying I can see HoloEN will invest in 3D studios for them. How to raise capital? Just freaking IPO HoloEN branch I'm sure the weeb lord Elon Musk will drop money on them. With more JP girls learn English over Chinese (get fuck bugmen) to try to get into the western audience. 3D Concert NA right now will get a lot of audience due to people get sick off the current politic nonsense in entertainment. Later down the line, you will start seeing the JP girls go to EN to perform 3D instead of the other way around.

Haachama announce leaving on a journey of self discovery for a while. Not sure if this just refer to the new character putting on shelf or she actually having a leave. Guess we will see in a day or two. I'm leaning more on the hiatus side though. This shit must blow to have a worst ending for the arc you built up for months.

I'm not gonna project my opinions as fact, but to me, it seemed like maybe the monster got off the leash. Specially with the cringy ass game she tried playing on the 28th iirc it got kinda... too much. Plus the guy seemed to want to insert his (for lack of a better word) "headcanon" into it.

I just hope she isn't too bummed out and we get our regularly scheduled, lovable Haato/Haachama back soon. :heart-full:
Most of the comments are understanding and supportive, then you have this 'supportive' idiot who high-key suggesting that she actually want to leave Hololive, and all the blood, sweat, and tears she spend on it. Not sure if thinly-veiled anti or an actual retard.

Money is on actual retard.

[...] Rikka got a 3D but Nene did not (despite mentioning she wanted one, I think?). So there's something else going on there, perhaps it's simply based on who has free time to get fitted for one [...]
Most of your statement makes sense, but it is incredibly likely Nene's 3D was in progress, but got scrapped and restarted, since Nene went through an entire character redesign in 2D to discard insectoid referential material.

Certainly the mocap is not an issue when Coco is able to afford one for her home.
Coco doesn't have a full home 3d setup, it's part of her pipe dream along with owning an actual holohouse. But the equipment Cover uses in studio was expensive enough that it shocked her (she inquired about the cost of it as she's interested in owning a setup someday)

If you assumed she owned a setup because of the greenscreen vids her and Kanata were putting out keep in mind that they (and other girls) often record a number of those shorts and just trickle out release them over time. the KanaCoco dancing BGM greenscreens were likely recorded around when Coco did her anniversary dance stream and she just slowly released them as clips over time.

The North American market after all has nothing immediately comparable to the idol industry. You could consider the fawning over actors and mainstream music artists (e.g. the Jonas Brothers, the Beatles) in the same category, but neither are really similar because it's always in the context of their productions - i.e. movies and music. Idols in East Asia are themselves the product, and it's this paradigm that will likely never catch on here in a 3D way because it's just not easy converting the concept into what we collectively like.
While they're not as prominent right now, boy bands and Tiger Beat don't seem that far off from idols and the industry that surrounds them.

No EN 3D vs the boys is like picking up a rock and drop on your feet. Unless COVER was hating money then they can go that way. On the other hand, if HoloEN branch has enough capital to self sustain, then they can definitely makes a studio for 3D recording and make it even more grandeur than JP due to the fact that there are more English speaking audiences. I understand your argument but unless COVER embrace the "Japaneses isolationist and anti gaijin culture" I think it will be stupid not to rush EN 3D before the Holostars.

Right now the western entertainment is suffering from a political nonsense infestation. People watch Vtubers like Hololive due to the girls being apolitical and this acts as a low blow against all current old lefties entertainment in the west. People would rather go back to good old entertainment to escape every daily live nonsense than go watch lefties e-thots virtue signaling nonsense. This is how Nyanners and Ironmouse manage to hold Vshojo together as most live watches since they distance themselves from politics (for now). Plus Nyanners is set herself up as the anchor of Vshojo (the rest of them are pretty much background to promote herself).

Holo3D performance in the west especially North America will get a lot of audience due to people tired of Hollywood and Disney trashes. If COVER capitalized and smart, they can just do some research on NA's entertainment market and they will start to see the shift in culture (I never expected to actually go to the cinema to watch anime movie like Heaven's Feel II). My guess is that they will get a full house on their first NA 3D performance maybe get some affordable venue in Las Vegas. Once that successful initial impression, there will be a true shift to the current western entertainment culture.

Alternatively they can just embrace their BS culture of "anti gaijin" and see HoloEN branch get bought off or IPO down the line by some money-loving weeb investors.
I hate to tell you this, but we're in an echo chamber.

Most people are uninformed, dumb, and complete normalfags. They'll sit and watch reruns on television, dumb shit on Netflix or Disney+, and just veg out. None of what you said here really gives Hololive a snowball's chance in Hell at being anything more than a fun niche for (mostly) people under 30 who aren't regularly employed (even if it is from home) or already a member of some sort of niche interest demographic. The average person is boring, uninformed, and will still watch whatever Marvel movie is being rerun or whatever dumb TV drama is playing. You'd be surprised how many people turn off their brains and try to ignore woke stuff. Granted, that number is rapidly dwindling but the fact is, Hololive and Vtubers are really not much of a threat to any industry... YET.

You might have to wait a while before it can put a dent in anything. And God's honest truth, I hope it never gets that popular. The Millennials damn near mainstreamed various subcultures and counter-cultures with the whole "Geek Chic" and Big Bang Theory garbage 15 or 20 years ago, and in the process, laid the groundwork for SJW infiltration, going woke, and the absolute trashing of brands, hobbies, and communities. If you want Vtubers to still be cool in 5 years, you'd pray like hell it continues to remain a niche thing in the West.

JENMA is not Japanese according to Marine
This is from a stream from September 2020 and this fragment has been subbed a couple of times already. The version I watched had a drawing of a male added by the subber to represent the manager, but from I could understand Marine has not stated whether the EN manager is male or female.

ENma is probably female, wouldnt surprise me after the Banpire shitstorm from last year.

also, Sora's new 3D model pisses me off more than it should.

Oh agreed, but this is why I mentioned the music aspect. To my knowledge few of these groups ever start reaching significantly into partnerships or cross-promotional material like you see idols do. The larger ones definitely (I can recall the Backstreet Boys had a few), but much like American actors doing commercials it's not an ingrained part of the culture/industry.

Then there's the whole gender divide (boy bands being for women and (female) idols mostly targeting men), but that's a whole other debate.

Check out this article about Menudo from 1984 and tell me it doesn't sound exactly like idol biz.

It even has hints of gachikoi:

"We look for a type of child that has 'angel,' " Diaz says, using the Spanish expression for a combination of charm, presence and lightness of spirit. "We also look carefully at the family; we want well-behaved children. An unstable family can cause us a lot of trouble."

Diaz also looks for looks: whether light- or dark-eyed, tall or tiny, all the Menudos share a full-lipped, doe-eyed air of eagerness and vulnerability. It is the kind of air that would make a teen-ager's mother happy about a first date. Whatever might happen between her daughter and a Menudo, it would at least be likely to be on a footing of shared inexperience and a strong instinct for decency.

I would normally agree, but it does seem uncannily near her having to axe most of her recent content. I'd say she is taking time to really nail down with the management sphere (and I'd go so far as to say the upper tier) with what she can and can't do. The fact is, she managed to pull some serious numbers that statistically weren't going to happen. Obviously she has some marketable value and needs to figure out how that jives with the company and YT as a whole.

don't forget she pulled those numbers without the usual apex or whatever, most of it was her own content (to which I count karaoke etc).

forget the eyes, what's up with those hands?
it's giving me creepy monster vibes.

They wouldn't be able to choke each other out, just seethe and be hilarious.

I'd agree, it would be coco getting pissed about her sister times 10.
but some of them they can hold their grudges, and women can be especially vicious. if someone doesn't show up at someone's house midstream the first 3d collab might as well end in bloodshed.

which would be hilarious on it's own, but still...

YourSora is just her wearing contacts in idol mode.

Seiso hands at Max Power. It was too OP so she had to get nerf into dainty little fingers that you wanna hold hands with.
