Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

I'll do you one better. You shouldn't be allowed to vote unless you pay property taxes. Old school charm, and it would eliminate my ability to vote so you know my intentions are sincere.

Again, there are plenty of ways to contribute to society without it being a wing of the government or military.

Why not serve one year as a garbage man, or a comms engineer rigging towers? Saying this or that job is the standard is silly. Why not just say "be a net contributor"

This seems really partisan to me. Righty politicians make bank by getting into lobbying or business leadership when they leave and lefties make bank off their "Last Name Foundation" and donation oriented speaking fees. I may be way off base, but it seems like the left almost exclusively gives their payola through non-profits. I'm pretty sure there's already a rule where a certain amount of time has to pass before going from government to lobbyist or vise versa. I don't recall.

I do get where you're coming from, I just don't agree with you. Making "volunteer service" the bar would mean it would get watered down with exactly the kind of meaningless shit you suggested yourself, such as planting flowers, obviating the whole point you're attempting to make. Plus, I just don't get the fetishistic attitude towards "jobs where you all dress the same" - continuously working, providing for yourself, and being a net contributor would be a far better measure of someone's worth than whether they're willing to do some box-ticking exercise for a little while.

The goal is to teach people they’re part of a nation and stakeholders in that nation. Private sector is separate and when that’s your only experience of the world then you view the government as either hostile or a sugar daddy. You’ve obviously never served anyone besides yourself and are no different than a shiftless vagrant with zero ties to the community. It’s this mindset that contributes to the globalist “can live anywhere” class, like dear feeder who decides to run off to eastern europe when times get hard. Thanks to people with that mindset, soon there will be nowhere left to go and the actual commies you’re worried about will put you in a uniform whether you like it or not.
