Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

I don't think this would work, Government contractors would just squeeze their way into qualifying their work as civilian and military service; You would end up with a Government run by the modern progressive military and contractors, which.... is already de facto the case but this change would make it de jure.

Actually -- I doubt any of these changes will work because Democracy is inherently flawed and all the Res Publica institutions have been undermined for too long; Anyway, this argument is meaningless because you can't just reverse suffrage once it is out of the bottle: you would need a collapse for that.

And the major point that people ignore about ST is that you weren't a citizen until after you completed service, no voting or political position until you were OUT of the service.
The movie was an atrocity.

By allowing them to be victimized now, they will build up victim points that will protect them later. That's the sort of long term planning that the People of the North get up to.

Seems to work for S Korea. We could bring back corporal punishment in schools like they have, as well. It would at least kill the problem of college freshmen with a 3rd grade reading level.

I don't know that I'd go that far, its a fun 90's sci-fi movie if you never read the book. It was definitely a butchering of the source material, so I guess its fair to say it in that sense.

If anyone hasn't read the book, give it a whirl, its a short one, you can read it in an afternoon.
