Andrew Torba / Gab (Gab.com / Gab.ai) / Dissenter (dissenter.com) - An incompetent captain sinking millions of other people's dollars.

I wish Dissenter had a wider usage, the basic premise behind it (allowing comments on any webpage/article) is pretty nice in times where news outlets all turn off their comment section for fear of wrongthink or being debooooonked.
It didn't get adopted, even by most Gab users, because it sucks. What they should have done is create an embed for it like they have on trends.gab.com (currently only works on Firefox) so it's like a Disqus comment section under Youtube, Wikipedia, Twitter, news outlets. Any site that censors or obfuscates information.

Using the Dissenter extension was a different experience, you usually just forgot about it because it's in this obscure little corner of your browser. And, at this point you can't use it because it only works on their web browser, which is a year out of date. So it's a security risk.

Torba thinks he’s going to buy his own bank. For one, this solves a huge problem. Think of all of the people that want Gab socks and can’t conveniently purchase them.

Torba's thing is all about how he feels the right wing needs to build their own society from nothing outside of the grips of Silicon Valley and MSM if their ideals are to survive. And I believe that he thinks Gab shows just what you can build when you put your mind to it (and when you're forced to).

The idea is good, but he's the ideal person for the establishment to have backing such an idea: an incompetent egotist who will fail so loudly and so greatly that it will demoralize people from trying again with someone competent.

And yet he's been slandered and banned from payment processors and marketplaces.

Well, that's been his thing for the past couple months anyway. He goes through phases like a little kid.
Torba thinks he’s going to buy his own bank.
It needs to be done and no one else is going to. It's probably going to run the company into the ground but fuck it, no one else who matters is in a position to attempt it.

This action against Gab smells like Operation Chokepoint, the Obama era attempt to use government regulators to pressure banks not to do business with disfavored industries.

It's done under the same rules and by the same people, so yeah it pretty much is. Trump should have gutted all those departments when he had the chance.

They literally do not maintain a stable branch in their repo so it will probably never happen unfortunately.
Gab’s Rate Limiting is absolutely insane. After you publish a post, you have to wait around 5-10 minutes before Gab lets you successfully publish another post. It just keeps saying “Compose Submit Fail.“

That will keep them from ever getting anywhere near Twitter where most of the content is by highly prolific posters. People like that won't put up with that shit. Maybe they don't want them (on Twitter they are mostly wokescholds), but those are the kind of people who get followed a lot as well.

As far as I can tell it's not an all encompassing rate limit. It's some kind of spam filter they're trying out.

Raising even more questions:

And a not-so subtle jab, even though all three breaches were Gab-specific and do not exist in Mastodon:

I wonder if Gab's struggle to scale has anything to do with Mastodon's infrastructure
It is, and Rob never shut up about it when he was CTO. But the fact is, they were told not to use Mastodon, and they've been yapping on about writing their own backend for almost 2 years now, but they never actually do it. So it's not really an excuse.

Their fork in particular is even slower, so they especially have no excuse.

>Looks back in thread for information.
>Oh great either a janny or Null is ruining my formatting. Probably Null because he stalks Andrew like a bitter ex-girlfriend.

Anyway, Andrew mentioned hiring someone from a big security auditing firm (I guess that's a thing?) Seems like a huge waste of money when plenty of people would do it for free on request. He needs to be saving up for his bank satellite!

I also heard a rumour that the haxxxor group (DosSecrets or something?) got doxxxxxed so that's funny.

I don't think anything else is habbening.

Well he definitely shouldn’t be banned from anything

Well their “board” was public.

and then some loser used his super OSINT skills to literally link up all of the wrong people that actually did the “hack”

Theres a guy that was inside of their groups that says he’s publishing everything. I’m going to try to watch it so I can put it on here when it goes public.

From what I’ve seen it’s legit. It’s them talking about it before doing it as well. We’ll see

Isn't DDos Secrets just a Whistleblower organization like WikiLeaks?

They just publish hacked data, they don't do any of the hacking themselves

I believe they fundraise through ActBlue and just prior to this were also the keeper of the keys to the Parler data, so draw your own conclusions.
