Thirsty Sword Lesbians is a game written by a group of bitter incels who watch too much porn and LARP as women, for bitter incels who watch too much porn and LARP as women, about a group of gay queer lesbians who go out and fight evil by flashing their tits to overwhelm evil with lust, make snarky one-liners until evil runs away crying, or just straight up murder evil with their penis surrogates, and then they go home to have frilly tea parties, cry about their emotions, and have a massive gay orgy.
I remember tabletop gaming in the 80's and 90's, where 'Macho Women With Guns' and its supplement 'Renegade Nuns on Wheels' were spoken of in hushed, reverent tones. Fun fucking games with a tongue planted firmly in cheek, where not-Ellen Ripley. not-Red Sonja and not-Sarah Connor teamed up to battle Isaac Azathoth for the fate of whothefuckcares. I remember HOL (Human Occupied Landfill), a hilarious pizza-cutter game (all edge, no point) about an all-male prison planet as seen through the eyes of someone having a really bad peyote trip. I remember SLA industries giving people the chance to be a slightly bigger than average maggot on the rotting corpse of a planet dying from end-stage monopolistic capitalism, but approached the setting with a very dry, quintessentially British sense of humour. I remeber the cheapness and pointlessness of life in Paranoia, an RPG that Orwell himself would have loved. I remember the balls-to-the-wall insanity of an Australian RPG named Hunter Planet, where death, mutation and dismemberment were the gold standard for PC's.
And what do we have now? Social Justice is more important than having fun. Being inoffensive is simultaneously the Most Important Thing In The World and also completely impossible, because there's always going to be a nigger, faggot, troon or vagina wielder there to police everything you do as a GM.
Can't run a game where egregiously bad decisions are punished. Can't run a game where good decisions are rewarded. Can't run a game where one player character naturally and organically emerges as the leader. Can't write a game where black people are slaves, not-Jews are good with money, or societies comprised of straight white people are benign.
As I said only a day or so ago to a friend- how do you make a living in comedy when nobody has a sense of humour any more?
And how do you do an edgy, tongue-in-cheek game when people find edge offensive and no longer understand satire?
Choose your players well, GMs. The same people you welcome to the gaming table today could be accusing you of psychological de-facto rape, racism, misogyny or more tomorrow. You will have no trial outside Facebook or Twitter. You will have no legal defence. And when you are inevitably found guilty in the court of social media, every potential employer you ever contact, upon googling your name, will discover you recreationally advocate for slavery, genocide, rape, sexism, misogyny and white supremacy.
I wouldn't play any RPG with anyone I didn't know personally, due to risk of them taking offence over some trifle and damaging my IRL career. And that's very saddening, that we now have a gaming culture where so many people are looking for the opportunity to take offence instead of the opportunity to grow a thicker skin and laugh at the absurdities of modern existence.
