With the amount of keyboard smashing he does over other alleged "low-effort" translators posting videos, and how highly he regards himself, I'd love to know his personal accolades and credentials when it comes to mastery of the Japanese language. Something tells me he's some mayonnaise-white guy from a rich family who got in the JET program.

See, like Lyger, he's actually pretty toxic to the translator community. Perfect example is the one guy, ルイス (Lewis), on YouTube, who does 95% Choco clips. His English isn't great, so a lot of times the translations are kinda wonky...but you can understand the gist of it. He's also doing a service and translating one of the least-translated Holos out there for more fans to enjoy (he does Mel clips and others sporadically, too). But, according to someone like Jin, he shouldn't because he could "misrepresent the intentions of the talents," which, during his big Reddit spergout, he even cited as being "against Cover's rules in regards to fan content." So, like Lyger, he wants to shout down at and quash any new translators trying to bring more content to the masses. I just don't like the line of thought.

TL;DR, the guy needs to stop bitching and find something else to do.

His constant bitching sounds less like “trying to uphold the sacred and highly regarded job of being a translator for 2D anime waifus on YouTube” and more like he knows how replaceable he is and is just trying to cut out as much competition as he can. Both him and Lyger are easily the most toxic translators out there. I get that some mistakes could be harmful like that whole misunderstanding with Rushia that made it seem like chat was forcing her to end her stream as to not overlap with EN debuts (which ended up with her getting thousands of dollars in red super chats so it actually worked out for her). That’s no where near comparable as say missing a word or not translating a sentence the way you would, but it still gets the basic point across.

I’ll give Jin credit though, at least he hasn’t convinced himself that he and the 2D cat are in some retarded exclusive relationship unlike Lyger. Yet.

fucking this. there's a difference between linguistic errors like "I'm thinging" where it's phonetically close, and doing your due diligence with stuff like typos and punctuation when almost everything has a built in basic bitch spellchecker these days - and even if not just copy that script into a text program and see what pops up. I get you want to get it out ASAP to beat other clippers, but that shit only takes a few minutes tops while make it look much more professional (and also helps you as a ESL in the long run).

if you want to increase reach as a company just hire translators or even basic subbers and sub everything. I think kizuna ai did at some point (or least allowed fan subs back then for her videos. or it was a youtube thing, but still). it won't be exactly cheap for good quality and given the amount of content hololive produces, but the reach will be immense, since the greatest hurdle is getting the text of speech, and automatic tools only work so far. once you got a proper text sub (can even be japanese) it's much easier to translate it on the fly, especially with the work translating to/from english got.

however that would also put indies at a disadvantage, having to rely on fansubs, and with no fansubs or even clippers your audience will be severely limited. you don't know pain having to watch your waifu never be able to break the YUA line.

I don't know why exactly OtakoMori was slammed by T-Chan, but my guess is they wanted to stir up cheap drama and gain clicks through "creative" translations.

They went into it on reddit. T-chan basically said that not only are their translations shit, but they take way too many creative liberties to the point where they could be considered slanderous. In relation to the Aloe incident, it was particularly bad so they used in house translators to get the message acrcoss.

Also, Calli pepper sprayed herself. "A special brand of not-so-bright" indeed.

I was about to say, specifically in regards to OtakMori’s coverage of Aloe, or another video they did on Rushia, I believe, they were way off base.

Regarding the clips, clip channels and all that, it’s conflicting. Because yeah, its a good way to get out organic reach to people who normally wouldn’t find a Vtuber to subscribe. But it’s also a double-edged sword, in that the viewers who are drawn to a chuuba through clips go into their streams with a preconception of them, so someone could get filtered by Ame being nice to chat if all they know is “Le salty groundpound gremlin.” Translating between languages is even worse; from what I’ve seen of JP translations, they’ve taken Watson’s ground-pound to mean anal sex.

Take the following RFA clip, for example:
Borderline porn thumbnail and weird title, the whole nine yards. Textbook clickbait, with 3.7 million views, and its monetized. This was not from her first RingFit stream(in which the shark blew everyone away with how fit she is), but the second (and so far, last) such stream. This clip in particular was actually mentioned by Gura in her one of her membership-only streams (Blue Planet watchalong, I think?) as making her feel strange (despite her also welcoming clippers at other times), and may or may not be the reason why the game hasn’t reappeared on her schedule.

Now, lemme make it clear: Gura’s a not-so-surface degenelate and makes that extremely evident all the time. From licking a moving treadmill to mentioning feet at least once per stream to being fine with eating pizza soaked in soapy bath water, Gura’s not exactly shy about being weird. And everyone knows, streamer and audience alike, that the point of doing RingFit is to get inappropriate noises out of the player. But people tuning into a Gura minecraft from that RFA clip are going to expect lewd shit, not stories of rehearsing her McDonald’s order in to herself in a mirror because of crippling anxiety. Or forgetting to wash her dishes and leaving an egg underneath a sponge for a few weeks, leading to the thing looking like something not out of place in a Resident Evil game. Sure, there are also clips for those moments, but that requires your average normalfag to hunt for them; watching the streams or VODs such clips are taken from is pretty far fetched.

So I guess my personal frustration with clips is people (intentionally or not) (mis)characterizing the focus of their clips and potentially siphoning viewers who might have tried to watch a stream live.

Not only one but many of clipper use like this to increas their video view. I actually found very unsettling thumbnail of gura by channel Kazuma Sensei which like Gura having bj ( I check again I think it's already change by the person). And this Kazuma all thumbnail is straight up like some Rule34 video.

i have bring this topic before but yeah the problem in this clipper thing is how-- idk some (?) of them half-asses doing it for the oshi, or view+revenue. they know the quickest way to gain viewer is by clip some lewd content less than 2 minute, slap hornibait thumbnail and make it a day, thats why the ratio clipper make lewd clip are bigger than the non-lewd one

oh no-- its reverse twitch situation isnt it? rather than the streamer do coomerbait, its the viewer want to make it lewdshit out of non-lewd content

as much as I had companies overreaching and getting involved, demonetize that shit and the coomer baiters gonna fuck off when there's no money involved anymore (ofc some people will do it regardless, but it cuts down the number and possible yt algorithm shit).

ofc that's gonna hurt legit clippers as well, but those have less urge to bait since they do it out of fan passion, not to milk views.
