I hear this kind of thing a lot, and it seems to be especially popular among Catholic reactionary types. I think if you have witnessed a lot of people who have undergone real religious conversions, you will realize that they don't focus too much on objective, logical things. They decide they need something, decide that something is morally right and necessary, and then become open to the logical justifications for it. That where they start to build their faith.

It also ties into the theory of the Zeal of the Convert. Someone new, desperately trying to prove their worth, takes the most extreme positions possible to pretend like he actually belongs

Other than the "punched in the face" video, the only thing I recall was him saying "heil Trump" during a rally and thinking that Trump would view it as a compliment, or that Trump is somehow an avatar for white nationalism/supremacism despite Trump himself openly condemning the white nationalist/supremacist element of his fanbase.

That's true about any axiomatic stance and its founding principles, whether religious, ideological, or anything else - such as Communism.

furthermore it does not work to just tell people you should believe in xyz because it is a mythology that may have trickle down effects on policy and blah blah. faith based religions have to ... have actual faith. this is just a cynical view of religion that brahmin has about telling people what they should believe in because it's "good for them". does the pope sit in a smoke filled room plotting with the cardinals and say "mamma mia, we will construct elaborate stories and make rational arguments to the people and they will believe and it will benefit society down the line" no he probably just actually believes in it.

Well we can't really know for sure what these cardinals think and believe in. But what we know for sure is that they usually don't talk in their sermons about Christianity being fake and gay, but how you totally should still believe in it because it might, or might not, have some trickle down effect that might, or might not, be good for you.

I think he has a point but he is overrepresenting his influence on any of it. Trump lost a lot of his enthusiastic base for cucking on certain issues, and he made a gamble with appealing to Blacks and Hispanics that never paid off. He basically did what the Democrats were trying to do since forever, and something the Republicans are doubling down on right now.
But people saw this coming a mile away, and I really do think there was some sort of sneaky shit going on with the voting cause despite all this there's no way Biden wins like he did.
