Andrew Torba / Gab (Gab.com / Gab.ai) / Dissenter (dissenter.com) - An incompetent captain sinking millions of other people's dollars.

I hope these pederasts are aware that while the children they're exploiting to commit crimes aren't likely to do much time, they can be gone after under Fagin laws for corrupting minors. That's assuming they're not also sodomizing them, which is optimistic.
If there was any justice, there would be laws AGAINST Fagins.

I'm going to x-post from another thread and advertise some lesser known federated services that you should try out instead of Gab.

EDIT: I've just been informed Lemmy has a hard coded wordfilter specifically to discourage "right-wingers" from using it.

Instead, I recommend you use
Lenny, the censorship free fork. Or try some other fediverse link aggregators like Prismo and Lotide.

(Apparently this is PLANNED to have federation but I can't find much info about them outside of their Github.)

And here's a cool website that collects analytics on Fediverse sites.

Dude stop trolling. I typed in the name of that whale link and all I got was-- Oh Funkwhale! With an N.
Okay, nevermind.

I'll wait until tomorrow for the inevitable post of someone explaining how you're totally wrong, but if it never comes and this is good as it looks then this is great. Thanks for the links!

I have a feeling it's going to happen again pretty quick, depending if they find a new way to hack the site of course.
A lack of a forced password change after any sort of potential data breach is a little bit extremely stupid, and considering the amount of PII that was allegedly stolen they're potentially gonna get utterly fucked by the GDPR.

What if these get hacked?

What if these get hacked?
If what gets hacked? Federated instances are self hosted by numerous people. The whole idea is that there's no singular point of failure. If one of them somehow gets hacked it's the fault of the instance host, but even then none of these services usually ask for any personal info.

>implying Torba would ever voluntarily comply with GDPR because he thinks being based in America gives him immunity to European laws.
>implying Torba won't end up getting sued by Brevik or Varg over their personal info being compromised, thus creating the lolcow legal case of the decade

One can dream

Now I'm surprised that Gab wasn't hacked after the whole Bowers Incident. Did they really have better security back then LOL?
At the time Bowers performed his protest action, Gab was running their own software, not bastardized Mastodon.

Even then, I believe it was originally based on some shitty PHP template that they got off Github, but they didn't have to release the code because it wasn't under a license that required code disclosure for a web app, and they had actually put a decent amount of work into rebuilding the frontend and backend design to move it away from the original project.
Notice all these breaches are happening on their Mastodon instance, the only thing they leave open, because they're forced to by the AGPL. I bet if everything was FOSS they'd be in even deeper shit right now.
lol the only thing they do is host backend services for a mastodon instance
In the Ars Technica article Fosco literally warned against the exact type of exploits that are plaguing Gab right now. He's obviously not a dumb guy.
He's aware of things that people in his circle talk about and can almost certainly take them into account in his own work, if he has the opportunity.

Butttttttt.. now he isn't a software engineer in a structured team. He's the guy who took the job of being "the guy who Andrew Torba screams at like an insane man [because he is insane]" as if it's 'simple' to make a useful Twitter clone out of Mastodon, which is software written in six million different languages by an incest enthusiast, then run it on random dodgy servers, while under constant attack. He shouldn't really be trying to write code as well as deal with Torba.
To be fair, multiple Gab devs have told me that federation was responsible for a lot of performance issues at their size, and that along with general insularity were the deciding factors in ditching it. You can believe that or not, but really no one knows because no one else hosts a server as big as they are.
Not really true. There are Jap Mastodon instances that probably have similar numbers of active users.

Turbo stopped federating because he never really cared about it. Federation is only worthwhile if you don't want to run a conservative QTard echo chamber- i.e. if you're not Andrew Torba. If he actually was interested in federating, he would have paid some competent people to harden the code that dealt with the federation services, and, if he was sensible, locked it down to only pre-whitelisted instances.
Looks like the left has gotten one of their white whales. And Twitter gets one step closer to cementing their place in the utopia to come.
It's a haven for QTard filth. Fuck Torba, fuck his retard conservative echo chamber.
Is Gab the one where the admin is a weirdo Christian nationalist who has an absolute fucking meltdown if someone posts anime tits?
This is the only upside of Gab.
A lack of a forced password change after any sort of potential data breach is a little bit extremely stupid, and considering the amount of PII that was allegedly stolen they're potentially gonna get utterly fucked by the GDPR.
It's especially retarded given their audience. If I was behind the hack IN MINECRAFT I would look for American bank sites where you can log in with an email address and password right now.

I'd like to know the overall age of Gab's userbase. Everytime Torba posts it looks like he's talking to people over 50.
I feel like the only people who go on these definitely-not-glowing mainstream right-wing sites are boomers. Young right-wingers, especially more radical ones at least according to sjws, probably use online tutorials to build IRC chats with wireguard or other more underground shit i dont even know about to keep in touch with each other.
